I haven't watched a recent movie in a while but  did binge on Stranger Things ahead of the finale. Loved some of it, hated some. However, it left me with a terrible longing for the early 80ies. I intend to watch Marty Supreme at some point, as well as the new Wuthering Heights and a couple others.

I rewatched Moby Dick with Gregory Peck. Amazing movie. The last recent movies I remember watching were Nosferatu and Poor Things and that was like, a year ago.

I seen like 40 films or something in the cinema last year. Marty Surpreme which didn't get a wide release till a couple weeks ago was probably better than all of them.

It has a very cult classic memorable (everyone  in a decade will know the film) type. Not saying it's a masterpiece, but it is very enjoyable.

Disliked the Nosteratu remake. Very bland generic remake of Bram Stoker's Dracula (which it originally was supposed to be apparently). Good cinematography, but not alot of depth.

On Stranger Things. I liked the show originally, however really disliked the final season.

Way way too safe and it felt like there wasn't much of an idea despite the break of years inbetween seasons - big budget and extended run times. It's too heavily padded and way too many side characters who suddenly become main characters.

Definitely liked Poor Things, but honestly Buogina that also has Emma Stone in it from last year was better. One of my favorite films from last year.

As for for some of the earlier complaints in the thread about modern films. I honestly just think that people aren't looking for the right stuff. Cinema is very much alive, you just have to stop looking for the popcorn flicks and the marketing.

I will try to watch it this weekend.

It wasn't very memorable. I have never been keen on Johnny Depp's daughter - an overrated nepobaby, imo.

I didn't watch the show until recently as I didn't think I would like it,  so when I heard it was ending, I decided to give it a try.

The best seasons were definitely 1, 2 and 4.

I am a bit annoyed with all the lot of chit-chat in season 5. Too woke.  Cringy.  And such a short finale -  with an extra hour of woke stuff!
I would have preferred a whole hour of action and a few minutes to conclude the show. And if they really needed two hours, then 1h45 of action and 15 minutes of officially moving on and saying goodbye. I also find it sad the character of Kali was like, wasted and left in the background after reintroducing her at the end of episode 4. In another episode, she looks  like she wants to disappear inside a wall while the others are talking about something. The Duffer brothers said she would have a big role... It seems the only reason she was brought back in was for her to be killed of. I liked Dustin's speech! I almost shed a tear. Long live the Hellfire Club!

Fab performances by our Brit actors - special mentions for the guy who plays Eddie and  the one who plays Creel/Vecna/001.
I couldn't stand some characters (like Erika) and it was irking to see them get a bigger role. Some people complain that Susie was not in season 5 but it seems to me that the end of her relationship with Dustin was strongly hinted at at some point in season 4 or at the beginning of season 5. I like the character of Holly but isn't she supposed to be, like 6 year-old? 14

I am gradually becoming aware of the fanbase, of what they are saying,  etc  and I find some people are very disrespectful.  For instance, some complained about that episode in Seaon 2 The Lost Sister. It is the way they go on about "skipping it" on Reddit, and what the creators should have done and how the show is more "watchable" if they skip or swap episodes... I find that attitude odious. While it is OK to comment and criticise things,  boycotting an entire episode for very childish reasons is another matter.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with that specific episode, I felt  it was a good idea to show what 11 had been up to and it was her act of rebellion to leave and do her own thing away from Hopper who was smothering her. She learned about herself and returned to Hawkins rather than stay with her "sister". I understand a spinoff had been considered and the idea was abandoned due to very negative reactions ( more like people whining because they had been left with a cliffhanger in episode 6). I think it would have been great to have this spinoff. Just yesterday I saw a post from someone about "racialisation" or rather, the  lack of prominence of "racial characters" in shows like Stranger Things. If that spinoff had been made, there would have been 3 "racialised" main characters (ie Kali, Mick and Funshine). Interestingly, those three "racialised" characters are also the most likeable (Funshine is one big teddy bear, Mick seems to be down to earth and sensible,  and Kali is complex and has an interesting story that connects her to 11. How did she escape from the Lab? It would have been great to explore this). The two white characters in the gang are a lot less likeable. Yes, it would have been interesting to see this spinoff if they had dared to make a show for a more mature audience... With the Dottie character they could have run a story with experiments and abuse, like in the Lab, but in a psychiatric hospital. They could have created an equivalent of Nurse Ratched, for instance. I wish they had made the choice to upset some fans. I find it hilarious that some people find Kali and her crew annoying in one short episode, but they have no issues with Erica or Yuri being annoying in every single episode where they appeari. 14 I think such a spinoff could not take place because we live in a world where people all talk about kindness, emotions, and they don't want to see human beings as monsters. This is why at the end of Season 5, Vecna is shown to have been a victim himself. A spinoff based on the Lost Sister would never have shown Mind Flayers and alien looking monsters that try to control the world, but only the darkness inside people. It would have been too bleak and desperate, unless they had managed to get the characters more relatable. If they don't want to film something like this, they can still do a graphic novel, I guess.

One of the reasons I didn't watch Stranger Things was the hype. Everyone was talking about it. I am more into aesthetics, experience, imagination, etc. and what I will be left with and I wasn't sure this show would be right for me. I got all of that with Poor Things.  An amazing movie, even if I found it a bit long. I think Marty Supreme will be a great experience as well. Another movie on my current must watch list is Hamnet.
