After listening to this further I have serious doubts that this is real. Piano on the back end cuts off and re-enters back into the track in a weird way and the entire second half feels empty, those things in itself do not mean its fake but something feels off. Zak Starkey would know for sure obviously

There were some ADATs in Tom Zutaut's storage locker, if I'm not mistaken, although most of them probably not related to GN'R. Maybe a couple were, like the Sympathy For The Devil sessions (I think they were in ADATs).
I vaguely remember seeing the image's of the Sympathy For The devil stuff now you mention it I think. Old school black VHS-S cases so yeah I would assume ADATs

I haven't heard the original leak of COTR since it leaked earlier this year but I believe it was way shorter with the end cut off. Havent compared the mixes yet they may be different. Monsters is way higher quality than the original leak, far higher bit rate.
is this real? COR sounds fake to me.
I was sceptical before hearing them because there is enough in the original leak of COR to fake an alt version if you picked it apart and started copy and pasting parts I think.
Also Monster being lossless audio is great but there are ways of faking that, even if you run it through SPEK to check such things it can be faked. But after listening I would say these are real. Easiest way is to ask Zak if COT is the real version.

After a second listen yes i can hear the dentist drill esq sound effect.
Nice attention to detail on your part.
Very interesting also !The fact Hardschool was originally worked on before nugnr era and continued to be worked on during the nugnr lend credence to Tooth Puller being carried over also especially with the dentist drill sound effect.
Honestly the first time anyone has mentioned that to me.
I obviously don't know that Tonto it is toothpuller but I do wonder if the noise could be there as a shot or way of making fun of Izzy maybe.
The first time I heard about Toothpuller came from before the DATS had been discovered..
The following appeared in Metalsludge in 2006. There was no way of really backing the veracity of it until the DATS were discovered years later. If someone made up the Dizzy quotes then they would have had to guess that there was a song called Toothpuller (which is unlikely) Thanks to the DAT photos we can say that the song did exist, that it did have vocals & that at least Dizzy thought it was awful...
“Izzy used to be a great songwriter- his contributions to Guns N’ Roses first album are phenomenal. But, its almost like the guy has lost the fire… I mean I saw the guy a couple years back in the studio… and he was showing me a song he had just written called "Toothpuller" – it was literally about him visiting the dentist and getting a tooth pulled out. [Dizzy then sings some of the lyrics] I mean… this is a guy who wrote some badass songs and now he’s writing about getting his tooth pulled… I mean come on… can you imagine Axl singing that live?’(Dizzy https://metalsludge.tv/classic/?p=30945 )
“in April 1995, Duff calls again: “I’m trying to write new songs for the next GN’R record. Come lend me a hand.” It’d been five years since I’d left Guns, but I told myself, “Well shit, after all, why not?” Duff and I wrote ten songs in one week, and also made demos of them. And I thought, “It’s so easy.” When you work with someone like Duff, who loves music in the same way you do, everything becomes simple.” (French Izzy interview, 2001)
Some other comments on the time....“He's been writing; he wrote some stuff with Duff. He wants to write songs, but he doesn't wanna deal with the whole thing. And it took me a while to finally get to the point where I couldn't handle it either, y'know? He wants to write material, but he's not really sure what he wants to do. He's so laid back. He doesn't want to deal with any pressure. Izzy does what he wants to do.” (Slash Metal Hammer November 1995)
“We recorded 10 songs in eight days. It got me excited about music again. I realized how easy the whole process could be. Those sessions were fun and painless. We just had a great time.”(Izzy Los Angeles Daily News, March 20, 1998)
“I'm using a Music Man Stingray. I started using it onstage. I've always liked these basses. Actually, when we were trying to do the Guns album I broke this bass out, and it just sounded amazing. It's bigger and fatter sounding. (Duff Hit parader June 1999)
Dizzy quote is just stupid.
Saying Izzy used to be greag song writer but isn't now ? Coming from Mr Bongos that is hilarious.Night Train is about shit malt iquor and was written by Izzy with Slash.
So a song about getting your tooth removed doesn't seem that crazy. Also notice how Izzy worked on Velvet Revolver's first album Contraband but not on their second album Libertad which has a noticeable drop in quality ?
Izzy wasn't the best live but he's a helluva a song writer.
The fact Tooth Puller, Machine Gun and Down By The Ocean are Izzy and Duff songs is good for the fans and the band.
@troccoli any help my friend on what Machine Gun became hypothetically of course ?
I'm enjoying this conversation, it is insightful and i believe the community bouncing ideas and sharing information will lead to us discovering more about these tracks.
My opinion is that the vault is not empty and all future releases will come from the vault, songs that Slash or Duff worked on orginally are likely to be released.
A example of that is Hardschool.
Which i believe to be about Izzy.
It was the second release from the reunion era version of gnr.@james where are you at brother ?
It's a shame we will probably never hear those DATs. There AMPEX 456's which are prone to sticky shed syndrome, so at least they will have been baked and backed up now they have been found. I'd be more interested in the ADAT's that both Sorum and Fink have spoken about separately, recording onto VHS tapes is a weird thing that happened in the 90's. Sorum mentioned in his book they had multiple machines linked together, I believe at The Complex.
I went and we played Guns songs and some cover songs and eventually I was bringing my ADAT tapes I was working on in my apartment.
There were so many. Some of them were picked for parts and some of them were recorded to the finish line and still exist somewhere. I don't know where. Robin Fink https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/in … k%20appeal.
To my knowledge no ADATs ever made there way out into the wild, presumably all in Iron Mountain now.

Neither as well for me. Re recorded CD just sounds stale because we’ve already heard it in various stages of completion during that time frame (late 90s-2000s).
And lol at the six years to complete an album bs. There is no reason why any band now should take that long to complete one album.
Axl would probably like about 10 percent of whatever Sash Duff and Fortus bought in at first. It would probably result in them then having to write 70 or 80 songs of which he would think maybe 3 could use work. Slash would get restless and go on tour, so would Duff & if anything was ever released from the sessions it would probably be an album of 8 covers and one original song. It's just never going to happen.
I think it would just be 1994 all over again
#18 Re: Guns N' Roses » Would you rather… » 12 days ago
Honestly neither. I would be interested in a boxset of unreleased stuff from all eras but that's it I think. CD rerecorded seems more likely than a new album. It would take them longer than 6 years to make an album from scratch and the process would probably just rip the band apart again & if that happens it's over.

Sites are being sent press releases detailing physical release
Beginning December 12, the two new singles will also be available for pre-order on seven-inch vinyl, a band-store-exclusive cassette, and a Japan-exclusive SHM-CD.

Wonder how that release will be screwed up lol
#20 Re: Guns N' Roses » Atlas » 2 weeks ago
Just dug into my archives a bit and had a root around for some info from way back...
Atlas Shrugged
Over perhaps all other unreleased songs this one seems the most mythical and desired and maybe that's because we came so close to getting it. Axl confirmed in his chats on the forums in 2008 that the song dates back to 1999.
It was slated for release on Chinese Democracy but was removed at the 11th hour due to the time constraints of the CD format. The earliest versions of this have Robin Fink on lead. Brian May recorded guitar on this at the same time as Catcher In The Rye and Riad & The Bedouins. It seems likely that Brian’s work was scrubbed in favor of Ron Thal’s given that’s what took place with Catcher In The Rye & Riad, Certainly Ron did record a solo for this song.
As of 2008 Axl however seemed at least open to the idea of an alternate version, when asked about the song on HTGTH he responded...
"Perhaps on an alternate or bits, on that track it has more to do with recording issues and getting the mix to a good level."
The idea of working with Brian was not necessarily born from a need to get the Chinese Democracy album released, but in fact had been a plan behind the scenes since the mid 90’s
“We may work with Brian May on a project upcoming. We get along with Brian really well." Axl Rockline Radio 01-03-94
"I go back to listening to Queen -- you know, we're still hoping to have Brian May come in and do some tracks, and I got a fax today that he's coming in." ( Axl 8th November 1999)
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/arti … ticleid=28
"JANUARY 24th 2000 I hope you've all had a good weekend? It's all still pretty quiet here - Brian is back from working with Axl in Los Angeles on the new Chinese Democracy Guns n Roses album. I don't know yet what tracks will feature Brian, I'll let you know when we know. Roger is down in Cornwall shooting (pheasants apparently!) and John is at home. "from the official queen fan site: http://www.queenworld.com/
'Atlas Shrugged' is described as being somewhere between 70's glam rock and 'November Rain'. (Jeff Leeds, Sp1at Website 2005)
"Song doesn't have all that much to do with the book other than trying to do what you believe in and a line about shoulders not being wide enough". (Axl Rose, MyGnR Forum, Dec. 2008).
"'We were finishing track in October. 'Doing overdubs with Buckethead and Robin Finck and some stuff with Tommy Stinson. I felt we had a well finished version of The Blues, Madagascar, Chinese Democracy. Atlas Shrugged was pretty good.'" (Classic Rock, April 2008) Tom Zutaut
"Atlas Shrugged, I was going to tell a little story about that song. Right now on my laptop, I actually have the old guitar solo that I played for that song, when, two days before the album was going to be mastered, I was like, let's see if we can squeeze it on to the album. I busted out some guitar tracks for it, I have my own studio... (Bumblefoot, Eat More Heat, March 2013)
What follows is an excerpt from Brian May's appearance on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show...
“They just said come over and do some stuff. It's a long story, to be honest, and I won't bore you with all the details. But Axl was feeling that he was in a difficult place because the guitarist he'd been working with on this new album had, sort of, replaced Slash, because they fell out, sadly. I think that is sad actually because they're both brilliant talents and great with each other. But the guitarist that'd done most of the tracks had departed and Axl had a real emotional attachment to what he'd done, and yet he didn't want him on the album, I hope I'm not saying too much here, he didn't really want him to stay on the album because he'd disappeared, you know. So, he's sort of feeling a kind of divided loyalty and he said, 'Brian can you come and do stuff which I will like and I won't feel too bad about ditching this other stuff?'. So I did. I went over there and I think I played on three tracks and messed around on various other things. But it worked out pretty well, as far as I can tell. And it's very strange 'cause most of the Guns N' Roses people are not there 'cause Axl's
sacked 'em all. So you're talking about Axl and the 'new' Guns N' Roses but, boy, is there a lot of energy there and his singing is outrageous. There's some great tracks on it. (Brian May Wed 10 May 2000). The presenter was Mary Anne Hobbs http://qfg2.info/gnrnews_old.html
The song finally leaked to the fanbase in 2019 with the versions detailed below, but this was not the first time traders had the song. According to Mick Wall in his unauthorized biography, Atlas shrugged was out there in private circulation. The book predates Bumble re-doing the solo, so if Mick Wall is correct then the version out there was the Brian May one. However it is more than likely an inferior quality version of a mix that leaked later.
If the version with Bumblefoot is out there it would not be the first time a song has leaked after his guitar has been added to it. If BBF’s version was intercepted then it is possible that like Going Down, Silkworms and OMG before it the song is panned into the right ear while his overdubs are mixed to the left.
Among the versions of Atlas Shrugged that leaked in September of 2019 are the mix labelled 3/27/00 from rough mixes CD#1, one of the many Cd’s taken from what became known as the Locker leaks. This version contains Josh Freese on drums with sparse rhythm compared to the other version, the line “In fact” seems punched in and the song as a whole feels less complete. This seems to be the earliest version of the song with Brian May on as this mix is from only three months after he recorded his guitar for it.
The next version also from the locker leaks comes from the CD labeled J587 219 and has Brain on drums. The song feels heavier and far more complete than the previous version. There are three versions on the CD however they are almost no differences between them, at least to my ears.
The 3 tracks on the disk are the song with drums at a regular level and then versions with the drums lowered and raised by 1.5 Db.
A version of the song was in the hands of some hoarders as of 2007 however this version has not leaked. A version comparable to the 2019 leaks were in the hands of some around 2015/16.
