This board and the conspiracy theories and negativity is a bit too much. All the songs during the Chinese era suffer from the same issues. We get it.

The opinions posted here aren't really any different than the other forums or social media...

People either like it or hate it and both sides agree the mix is pure shit and rollout of the 7" vinyl beyond embarrassing.

You want to see real negativity check out the Hoffman forum.

I'm also glad we have it. I'd rather have it in below average quality than not getting to hear it while imagining it's some Pink Floyd epic they're sitting on.

On a side note…..Monsters is killer after tons of listens

Yeah and I really hope they don't fuck up the quality of this one if/when it gets released.

Monsters is a keeper and could easily enter my regular rotation.

In my opinion The General It is not great but I don't think it's bad either, the production is horrible, the mix is something that I could but there are great parts inside of the song.

There's a good song trying to dig its way out of the mess.

Said it before but I'd love to see a Grade A producer tackle this song. I bet it could be improved immensely even though it does feel incomplete.

I'm starting to think this way too. This was Axl's real project from 1994 until... I don't know, maybe 2011, when his plans to release "CD Part II" were sabotaged in favor of bringing the original Guns lineup back together.

I think from this point on, Axl has lost his appetite for Chinese food.

I don't even blame him. It was literally a lifetime ago. You can't sustain interest in a project for that long... especially one with so many collosal blunders.

I just wish he had closed the chapter with a real EP/LP release instead of how the second half of the saga has played out.

Well, if he has lost the interest you have two options:
1- release it with the members that worked on them (Robin, Bucket etc)
2- don't release it and start writtng new music with Slash and Duff.

But if Slash can't improve what Robin-Bucket did, and you've lost interest in that material then don't release it in a worse version than the originals.

I prefer all the demos than the final product (HS, Absurd, Perhaps and only TG we don't have the Robin-Bucket demo)

Definitely monster is killer, that verse of the crazy redhead makes the beauties stand on end, pure venom! The song itself is good, reminiscent of the alternative vibe of the nineties, very close to faith no more and not far from velvet revolver!

I love it

The songs are cool for what they are: a single and its b-side, the level of guitars in Chinese is stratospheric, slash does what he can, it's not his style and he's not that versatile! Not only did they not detect slash and duff in the leaks from monster and the general, if not they listened to buckethead and robin! Of course, that shit can't be slash! They are robin and buckethead and so each one lies to themselves in their own way! Artistically, slash is not at that level, it it was, not anymore! The epic solos are in chinese democracy and those are mainly robin and buckethead! Of the singles that have been published there is not a single decent guitar line by slash, much less epic or magical and in general In the end he tries but if we compare it with any Chinse CD solo you realize the artistic level of that work that is far superior to what he can play or compose slash these days!....p.s, let's enjoy what we have!

Yep, yo are right. I think the same

I wouldn't call it negativity to the members giving our opinions.
I would say we all love this band. We only had one album from 2008 and when they release a couple of songs we have the right of giving our sincere opinion about them.
And if most of the people feels the mix is horrible, the song seems unfinished or whatever i wouldn't blane the fans. Just respet opinions.
As i said i'm happy we are moving on and getting new songs. But my opinion is the last songs are far away from the Big Guns.
I'll keep waiting for new music and hopufuly at some point we'll have great songs

#85 Re: Guns N' Roses » The General and Monsters » 149 weeks ago

It's the same A or B side. The lack of work on it is obvious.

The more I listen, I love the lyrics, the awesome vocal melody and the spooky guitar.

If I want to find problems I would note that all of these new songs had a lot of repeats. They are all awesome song concepts that feel a touch unfinished somehow, and I think its that they all feel like they need a new 3rd verse or something of that nature.

General for instance feels like the build up part of one of Axl's epics. But it doesn't complete. Hell, Slash sounds like he's just getting warmed up to go nuts when it ends, I think it needed a huge guitar outro whole Axl kept up with those screamy bits in the background...

It's like NR if it didn't have the two slash solos or the outro, or breadown with out the outro, or locomotive if it was just 1 verse. Basically I think what is there is awesome but it feels incomplete. I wonder if Axl felt this too and that's why these songs were held over so many years - waiting for an idea that never came? Maybe not too though.

Anyways despite my bitching I do enjoy all this new music, and i'm so glad he's finally sharing things again.

I think this is accurate and I agree with this. And I agree, I generally, like the song and vocal melody. The production/mix let it all down.

And YES - it's like an incomplete song, as are most of the Chinese Era left overs (and some on Chinese). A solid guitar solo, or an outro, a bridge, another verse... sometimes a chorus is what's missing, a breakdown/change up.  "Waiting for an idea that never came" is a good theory. It DOES remind me of the November Rain demos where he's got the CORE of the song, but not the middle or last verse, not the ending coda, no Slash solo. If Coma was a Chinese left over, we'd have gotten 15% of the song.

They repeat the lyrics in all the verses and it's incomplete song... Well, they had a lot of years to complete It, to develope the lyrics etc.
It's seems to me very unprofesional and lazy.
It's a joke

All casual GNR fans i put the song they do this kind of comments. They don't like It.
'seriously IS this GNR?' asked me one of my fave friends....

I would like to show you the comments on Italian metal sites, they are pure hate.
For example:
- "A steaming piece of shit before I left in the morning would have been much more valuable..."
- "Here we are really faced with a shambles...
I don’t have words anymore...
I wonder why Slash and Duff wanted to get back together with that clown (Axl) and continue the destruction of the group’s name..."

LoL

Probably Axl cut that chorus due to the woke ideology and the troubles the chorus could bring home Lol

Man, absurd would be so much better with the the “bitch like you chorus” added.  You can talk about pussy full of maggots.  Should have left “what can I do, with a bitch like you”

Would be awesome to hear a clean recording with that old chorus and the old version of The G.  I doubt we ever will though.

Yeeeeeaaaahhhhh
I always thought the same. Agree 100%
