Last minute or so of Think About You.

Just listened to old school now. It's crazy this is even happening. Imagine being told in 2006 that during the reunion in 2021, the two singles would be Silkworms and Checkmate.
No shit.
I'm just glad we finally got the full version of Checkmate after that 10 second clip leaked 15 years ago. And now we have two pretty cool/different versions of the full song. Never would have believed this would be the case 5 years ago. Slash & Duff being part of it makes the whole thing even more unbelievable.

The more I listen to it, the more I am digging Slash's solo in the middle of the song. Duff's bass at the beginning is good stuff too. I'm glad both the 2000 and 2021 versions exist. They are pretty different in terms of the instruments, but they both kick ass in their own way.

Pretty bizarre that they cut it down to 3 minutes for radio. It was already a short song.

Consensus from general audience comments thus far is "much better than Absurd." They definitely set pretty low expectations for the next song by releasing Absurd first.

Good...it made zero sense.
It should've been shut down immediately before it spread.
Great to see it moving up the charts. Like others have said, they gotta keep the momentum going or it will nosedive into irrelevancy like Absurd.
It's a different world now. Back in the day a single could hang around for weeks or months. Not anymore.
Great article from Billboard.
Absurd tanked super fast because the general audience didn’t like it. Hard Skool has a better chance of getting more traction since it sounds like classic Guns.

Exactly, positive press, people like the song, #8 on the iTunes chart and climbing I’d have to think. But people’s attention spans are very short. It’ll all be forgotten if they don’t do anything with this momentum. And history tells us, mmm, well.
It’s now up to #6 on iTunes. Curious to see what happens.

If they actually put an ounce of effort into it, it could be a rock radio hit.
They definitely have a hit on their hands if they push it. It's essentially a classic GNR song... it's what people expect when someone says new GNR song.
When touring ends, they should hit the late night show circuit on both sides of the pond and push this to the moon.
But Axl would have to lipsynch it. I doubt he can pull it off these days.
Not a chance in hell that he can sing in this voice, at least not for a one-take live performance. He might be able to recreate some of that classic Axl voice in the studio with many different takes. "Rock the Rock" with Looney Tunes is an example in recent years.

Purchased & downloaded my Lossless copy from 7Digital. On the first listen, I think I prefer the demo. The guitar melody in the demo seems catchier than the new version. But the song still kicks ass.

First listen I'm a little disappointed in Slash. The intro from 5-15 is a great addition but the solo and the bridge thing does not impress me. A little meh to be honest.
Obviously the vocals are old but it is rare to hear Axl use this voice in the last 20 years. For once I'd say he is the strongest element on this track.
He was always the strongest element on the demo version. Makes sense that it’s still the case with the official version.
