Can't quite qualify HOW I know this, but I got confirmation about two hours ago that Shackler's Revenge *IS* in the version of RB II going to gold. Still not sure when it's going gold, but I was told it could be 'any day'.
This information isn't that hard to get, yourself - if you really feel the need to... just "follow the money" as I always say

Oh, I'm sure the song will leak in 'perfect' quality - definitely not hammed up by some 15 year old who thinks he can play the drums because he picked up a set of 5S sticks in middle school and banged out the percussion part to 'Smoke on the Water"

Hey all,
Let's stat with the basics.
A. That wasn't Ryan Lesser in the video - his voice on his voice mail box @ Harmonix was NOTHING like the guy in the video's voice. Trust me, I listened to it about 10x just to make sure - definitely not the same individual.
B. The XBox 360 Release of RB II is scheduled for September 14th. Keep in mind that the game stores typically get the games in 3 - 5 days ahead of schedule (with two weeks ahead not being uncommon) with a requirement to 'street date' at whatever the date is.
C. Playtesters who currently have RB II do NOT have the Shackler's Revenge track, to my understanding.
D. Assuming that the US retailers for Rock Band II get the game the day before release (let's say September 13th, although that's cutting it awful close) - we need to allow about 10 days at the least for packaging, disc duplication, etc, etc. So that puts us at a 'gold' date of September 3rd at the absolute LATEST (This is assuming the game isn't delayed.. but Harmonix is pretty good about their sticking to release dates)
E. At that time (again, more than likely before, September 3rd is the 'D-Day' I'm throwing up here) review copies will go to press.. probably with a requirement to 'embargo' the details of the story until the release or maybe a few days beforehand.
Because of this - I would suggest the absolute LATEST we'd have a leak of the track would be September 3rd.. although I'm still putting it close to the third week of August or so, knowing how the game industry works.
Also, keep in mind, if there *ARE* plans to release it as a single, I'd think the single would day / date release with RB II - which means that yes, another source would be out there to source a leak from, again, two weeks or so prior to release.
So - my best guess is we hear the track by August 20th.. with a 'worst case scenario' by September 3rd, if this follows any of the patterns of leaks that have occurred before. It would not shock me, though, if the thing showed up somewhere as soon as tomorrow - We shall see
Hope you all have a great day,

It scares me how twisted and altered a story can get when it passes from one person to the next, especially when it comes to this community. Its not a bad thing - in fact, I find it rather fascinating - but yes, it does scare me.

Scaring might be a bit of a strong word!
Out of interest do you believe there will be any more (old) leaks from the hoarders before the album is released? Is there much material out there that might never see the light of day that people will hold onto?
Before? Not unless the tactics employed to get them to.. not hoard are revisited and modified appropriately. I'm not sure how that would be done - but I believe there's potential there.

ehh, here's what I think.
There are a LOT of attention seekers out there. The world is also full of idiots (trust me, they keep me gainfully employed). If you do the simple math, chances are that most of the info out there is, well, attention seeking idiocy. I lend little credence to most of it. I don't really 'get' the offers of 'x' dollars for songs or whatever - however, I understand the reasoning behind it. Bottom line is, appealing to greed is oftentimes much more effective than appealing to compassion, that's for damn sure.
Here's the problem with all of this potential material out there.. its very hard to separate the signal from the noise. So far, we've gotten LUCKY and managed to get our hands on some good stuff. Luck however is the ultimate variable.. it definitely comes and goes (trust me, I play poker semi-professionally, I am pretty aware of this)
The one factor we have on our side right now is time - every thing being 'hoarded' loses any assigned value it has (when the value is really in the eye of the beholder.. its not as if its a quantifiable figure) as more 'real' releases come forth. The next big one to be Shackler's Revenge, I would think.
So - with that being said. I just say be patient, keep your eyes and ears tuned to the proverbial 'wall of sound' and try to pick out the good info that IS out there. Sometimes its just not easy to decipher
Hoarding sucks - but its a fact of life.. all we need to do is find a way 'around' that wall as opposed to constantly bashing our heads against it
Nuff Said, Make Mine Marvel, Excelsior! and all that fun stuff,

See, people who go blowing people's covers like this?
This is why we can't have nice things :-P
Keep up the good work, MSL - something's bound to break soon, as we're well aware.
