So Slash says in one interview earlier, that material is being shared around for a new Guns album, and then in the latest interview, he says nothing has been done.
I’m calling it now, we’re never getting a new album. I hope I’m wrong though
That's pretty much business as usual for any band these days, isn't it? They're sending riffs that they've recorded in hotel rooms (well, completed CDII songs in Axl's case) amongst themselves, and they'll convene in a few months to record an album. They're sharing material, but no actual studio recording by the band has been done.

the problem is, we keep hearing this for decades already. it wasn't funny since ~2012 and it's not even remotely funny anymore.
I'd laugh like a drain if they end up rattling through it and recording an album in a couple of weeks.

I can't believe that they did YCBM at the one show where they didn't have Sorum on drums...

The General and Seven sound completely wacky, going by Brain's interview. https://www.alternativenation.net/axl-r … -revealed/

No rants on stage, Twitter or in press releases? Axl surely makes his ire well-known. He's been a lot more appeased now.

Likely not much.
They'd need a week to record stuff which he'd tinker with from months to years. It's better for them to do their own thing while he muses on his next step.
As for Fortus, somebody should tell him Axl never knew if soon's the word
It's a bit disingenuous to paint Axl as the one thing holding the band back, when there were an awful lot of complicating factors snarling up the release of Chinese Democracy (and CDII). Most of which were tied to the fact that he was trying to push forward with the new-look GN'R while management and the record company wanted the old, iconic band members back. Demos handed back with a shrug and an "eh, could do better", muted enthusiasm from the suits and the PRs – even Axl's defensive pushback and refusal to do promo was ultimately a response to the suits' not throwing their weight behind the album.
And he can turn around material quickly; IRS, TWAT, Madagascar, The Blues, Rhiad, Chinese Democracy and Catcher were all basically written in a few weeks/months of recording in 1999. Structurally, they remained the same bar some tinkering around the edges (which was, again, prompted by producers and execs sending it back to Axl and saying "Eh, could do with some work" when the subtext was "lose the NIN guy and get Slash back"). Shackler's Revenge had, by all accounts, a pretty short turnaround time.
We (pretty much) know Axl has all the songs from Chinese Democracy II ready to go bar some overdubs from Slash and Duff, which they could rattle out in a week if needs be. The sticking point is Slash and Duff (and Fortus, and why not Dizzy, Melissa and Frank? – remember Pitman wrote the riff for Madagascar) writing riffs for Axl to add lyrics to. But again, remember that he blasted through lyrics for those early Chinese Democracy songs – which were handed to him as riffs – pretty quickly; and without the suits intentionally slowing things up I suspect the creative process will be a lot smoother this time around.

I am dying. Good stuff. The big difference however is the Slash and Duff are, Slash and Duff. If anyone can get Axl to do an album or IS them. Not saying he will, but the have a shot.
What he said. The difference this time is, it's Axl, Slash and Duff. The roadblocks to release – the record company bureaucracy, obstructionist managers trying to get the old band back together, etc – melt away in the face of that. The NITL-era band is a proven success, the record-breaking tour demonstrates that. Publicists don't have to wrestle with the awkward "Is it really GN'R?" questions. People will flock to buy and stream this record in a way that they simply wouldn't for the Ashba-era band, despite Axl's best efforts.
Furthermore, we know Axl has material ready to release, it was ready to release back in 2014/5 but it was nixed by the record label. We know that Axl's comfortable with Slash and Duff adding their own flourishes to Chinese Democracy-era songs – the reworked Better and TIL are evidence of that.
Ironically, the biggest stumbling block at this point is that Slash and Duff will probably want to contribute their own written material to the record. Axl would, I'm sure, be perfectly happy releasing "Chinese Democracy 2 with some overdubs", but the returning band members will want creative input too, which will slow the process down some.

Heck, albums are just an excuse to go on tour these days for the bigger acts. Would think the record company is very much in favor of releasing something. Gives them a valid excuse to go on another big tour with large audiences, even if the setlist is 80-90% classic material. Merch sales and whatnot are a lot more lucrative than record sales at this point.
Really, they should take a leaf out of Ariana Grande's book and just release music in an ad hoc way instead of carefully structured album releases. The music industry's moved on:

Slash and Duff spent a few years saying they were getting a new lead singer for Velvet Revolver, too.
To be fair, I'd argue that "getting a new lead singer" is a substantially more difficult task than "writing some songs." You've got to find someone who has talent and charisma to burn, who isn't otherwise occupied singing for another band, and who clicks with you. I mean, look at Queen – it took them nearly 30 years from Freddie Mercury's death (and a couple of false starts) to find a new lead singer who ticked all the boxes.
With Velvet Revolver it was doubly challenging because you needed someone who could step into the shoes of two of the most charismatic, iconic rock singers of all time – Axl Rose and Scott Weiland. Which basically meant you either needed to have the luckiest break ever with the open auditions, or poach a top-tier singer from another band (or their solo career). Also you needed someone who could take VR's distinctive style (STP + GN'R) and evolve it without pastiching either of the "parent" bands.
It's howlingly obvious what they should've done, of course – they should've grabbed Chester Bennington, who was basically the only person with the vocal range, vibe and stage presence to go toe-to-toe with Rose and Weiland (hell, STP thought so too). But that ship sailed.
