I was pondering the other day what would have happened if Trump had been president a few decades ago too.
Like would Trump in the pre-social media age be different?
Negative for him would be it would be much harder to reach out to his base he'd be reliant on the media more, on the other hand, a lot of his abrasiveness comes from zainy tweets and apparently off the cuff responses to stuff too. It's interesting to think about what he would be like if substituted into say the ronald regan era - where he'd be more reliant on a TV image and not only that but a less 24/7 and less live TV image where he could be more 'handled' or something...
Another thing I was thinking about is I think it might have been different if it hadn't been Hillary he won against. Like assuming he still won that is.
Not sure about over there but over here there was a lot of shock around that he won. People had assumed he was kinda a joke candidate. The sports betting place here had him at 5 to 1 against him winning. It was considered a done deal. Then there's how hillary would have been the first female president. There was a whole feminism thing warming up here around "it's time" and that kinda stuff. Women I know were basically celebrating in advance. Then of course the whole "grab em by the pussy" thing kinda made it even more of a gender issue. To me it was kinda like a large part of the public and the media sort of never recovered from that shock and in poker terms kinda went "on tilt".
I know there's good reasons people both like and dislike the guy so I'm not really taking sides, I'm just saying I wonder if the fact that the first female president thing didn't take off was part of how things got so combative so early. Cos to my eye it was like a partisan war from day one on both sides. Much more so that other presidents.
Correct Monkey, they were after him from day 1 and still did a lot of great things. Oh well. Now it is Obama’s 3rd act... hardly any new blood.

James wrote:.are you saying the media should’ve paid him no attention and then be accused of censorship?
There's a difference between censoring someone and obsessing over them 24/7.
No attempt was ever made at a middle ground.
If you believe it would be censoring him, that means every president before Trump was censored.
Trump is who he is. It does not change.
I didn't mean he would've changed personalities with a different approach. He's always been abrasive...even in the happy go lucky days of the 80s.
Had he been treated as a normal president day one, he could've adapted to the environment and morphed into a more presidential role.
He was never given this opportunity. It was full blown faux outrage from jump street and his WWF heel type character lashed out adding fuel to the arson underway and this set in motion the feedback loop that engulfed the entire nation.
A shit show? Sure....but there's varying degrees of shit.
The media went all in on chaos day one pushing outrage for clicks and entertainment.
I'm not excusing his handling of the presidency. I'm just not letting the media off the hook. Without them, none of this ever happens.
All presidents deal with similar amounts of media coverage.
That's not true.
Modern presidential coverage....
5 minutes on the evening news....10 if there's a major scandal(Lewinsky)
Couple segments on the hour news shows on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc. then they move on to other topics
Newspaper headlines
Online coverage restricted to news sites, political forums, news youtube channels
It started spreading out to other areas during the 2nd term of Obama's presidency. Once the Trump era got underway, everything became Trump world. News programs talking about nothing but Trump, social media drowning in Trump discussion, and any website no matter what the topic, Trump discussion.
Trump world even took over people's lives. Trump derangement syndrome is real. His lovers and haters. Friendships and families torn apart over this madness. If anyone so much as farts, everyone has to know if they're a Trumper so they know how to react.
Trump coverage can't be compared to anything that came before it. There is the pre-Trump world....and then there's Trump world. You can easily draw a line between the two. The contrast is that noticeable.
The coming months are going to be very interesting. Millions of Trump addicts worldwide are about to be deprived of their drug. I can't wait to see how the media changes focus...and how they do it.
Barr did what others would not, that is commendable
How is it a travesty for the media to cover it up but it's commendable for the one guy who could do something about it to cover it up?
Pretzel logic.
This is why our country is broken... likely beyond repair....and we drown in corruption.
There has to be a partisan slant on everything....and various levels of hypocrisy throughout.
Neither side truly wants it investigated. No offense but you're a great example why. You were out for blood until finding out Barr buried it.
This socially engineered, hyper-partisan trench warfare the general public fights in the name of politicians who care nothing for them is the ruination of this country.
Which leads to....
gotta get that revenge right? i hope they block every single Biden appointee...it'll work out well for them
Good idea! And then in 2024 when the red team gets the presidency back, let's block those too!
Great things will be achieved.
No one cares anymore about actually doing anything productive.
It's all a game now....and the elites laugh at our stupidity behind closed doors.
Good to see Susan Rice being nominated
Ugh. This is why I had to hold my nose tightly when voting for Biden. I had a feeling the blue team crowd of corrupt dipshits would be moving in.
It's musical chairs at this point.
I still don't think he had/has in it him to be a more presidential and adaptable really. His tactics have never really changed through time. OK the changing media coverage is far more interesting to me. Trump didn't help with his constant barrage of tweets, but it just speaks to the modern "coverage" of just going over everything at the point of overkill. So I kinda agree after reading what you said. I mean Trump didn't help but I put the blame less on him than other things. Also, as previously mentioned some of his supporters are insane.
What does Hunter Biden have to do with anything. He is not going to be president of the US now.
Oh that laughable lawsuit by the Texas AG got slapped down by the Supreme Court 9-0.
2 judges said they would have heard it. Alito and Thomas.
Hunter Biden sold access to his father. His father DID receive some of that money.

Barr is old school and didn’t want a case to effect an election, unlike what Comey, Loretta Lynch, etc did. So he didn’t leak fuck and stayed out of it. Now that 4 investigations are looking into Hunter Biden that was fvcked up, but Barr is old school. We all know Joe took money and Hunter profited from selling access to his father. Sad all this shit is coming after the election.
Susan Rice is a clown show.

At least he will have a fvcking press conference. Biden only takes softball questions.
I have no idea what that has to do with the topic at all.
All 50 states have now certified their election results. Biden will finally be certified as the President.
Biden is a corrupt lying politician

Didn't you vote for the all time champion of lying to your face last month?
Yeah, calling someone else a liar and supporting Trump, who LIES ALL THE TIME, is just mind boggling.

You can blame your boy Barr for the lack of attention to Hunter.
Barr Worked to Keep Hunter Biden Probes From Public View During Election
"Attorney General William Barr has known about a disparate set of investigations involving Hunter Biden’s business and financial dealings since at least this spring, a person familiar with the matter said, and worked to avoid their public disclosure during the heated election campaign.
Republicans and President Trump have pressed Mr. Barr for months to pursue Mr. Biden, especially as his father, Joe Biden, gained momentum in his ultimately successful bid for president. Mr. Barr has staved off pressure from Republicans in Congress for information into the investigations, the person said, without elaborating on his actions.
One investigation became public this week after federal investigators served a subpoena on Hunter Biden. The subpoena sought detailed financial information in connection with a criminal tax investigation by the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware, according to people familiar with the matter.
Barr did what others would not, that is commendable, but it didn’t mean the media couldn’t discuss or ask questions. To say “zero evidence” was a lie.

Hunter Biden raked in $6m over nine months from his Chinese business dealings according to a timeline of his affairs which goes into unprecedented detail.
Joe Biden's son was involved with a series of transactions which were flagged for 'potential financial criminal activity', a Senate report has revealed.
The money included a $5m payment from a Chinese energy company with ties to the Communist party and $1m for work with an associate who was later jailed for bribery.
NOTHING TO SEE HERE, lol
