I voted for "The General." The others don't have as much of a reputation - they're probably good, but this is likely an epic.

*If* further official Chinese Democracy releases are not going to happen, I hope the band will lighten up in its stance toward leaks.
If we are going to see anything else sneak out, this could be the year, being that the album was released 10 years ago this fall.

The Appetite box is their biggest and best opportunity to cash in on their recorded legacy. I expect and hope for a UYI box set in 2021 (or 2022, given the band's penchant for timing) but it won't sell as well.
I hoped we'd see a Chinese Democracy box set this year but with this current project on its way, the likelihood of that happening is lower than ever before.
More than anything, the band needs to record and release new material. Whether that means "Silkworms," "The General," and other tracks Axl has in his pocket, or something new, GNR desperately needs to leverage the attention gained from the tour and box set. People are paying attention, but they won't be forever. I'd hate for the band to fall back on its legacy and ignore its future.

I don't think we'll ever hear it unless it leaks.
God willing some kind soul will reward us in celebration of 10 years of Chinese Democracy ...

I did NOT recognize Kiedis in that photo. He looks like a third Super Mario Brother.

I'll get the super-deluxe, but I'll wait to see what kinds of deals are available. I'm excited to hear the demos in (presumably) better quality than we've ever experienced before.
The L&L version seems like a terrible decision and I expect the band will be stuck with a lot of unsold copies. For that kind of money they should have included a lithograph signed by all five original bandmembers. I still would not be able to afford it, but at least the package would have included something truly personalized and special.
I expect we'll see it marked down to about half the price.
Now for a 10th anniversary Chinese Democracy box set!

i'd love to see an Alice Cooper/GNR tour, with Slash making an appearance in A.C.'s set ("School's Out" or "Vengeance is Mine") and then the legend himself showing up for "The Garden." The interplay would be phenomenal.
monkeychow raises some disturbing but undeniable points: While we can be pretty sure that they will all be around in 10 years' time, will they all have the inclination to record and tour, especially in today's difficult environment? Chinese Democracy failed to sell as well as Axl, Best Buy, or even we fans would have hoped. I'm sure he'll continue to create great music, but as we've seen, that doesn't mean we'll ever hear it.
The Not in this Lifetime tour probably gave Axl, Slash, and Duff enough money to live on for the rest of their lives, without even factoring in the royalties they get from the sales and broadcasts of their songs. It presumably also healed a lot of wounds and reaffirmed for them that they can still be a powerhouse rock band, decades after they began. What's next? Another tour in a few years' time?
I know what I want most of all (New music). But I have to wonder if I'll get it.

Thanks for the essay. That must have taken a while, and it's appreciated.
I was doing a minimum-wage manual labor gig when the Iron Maiden/GNR tour came to Seattle. A guy I worked with said he was going, and I was tempted, but could not afford it. Obviously, I regret missing that opportunity to see the original lineup.
Layne became something of a myth after AIC broke up. You'd hear stories around King County, as if they were bigfoot sightings. Mostly details of how ill he'd become, and supposedly had lost some fingers due to heroin ruining his cardiovascular system.
If the band isn't talked about much today, it's probably because Layne's exit was so incredibly sad. Dirt is one of the best albums I've ever heard, but I have to be in a good mood to play it or it will pull me right down.

I'll be the first to admit that Scott disappointed a lot of people but STP without him is a preposterous idea. If the remaining bandmembers want to carry on, they should go back to calling the project Talk Show. Don't call it Stone Temple Pilots.

I don't need a test. The answer is "Better." Broken hearts will wise you up eventually!
