#51 Guns N' Roses » RICHARD FORTUS And DIZZY REED Exit THE DEAD DAISIES » 490 weeks ago
- Slash McKagan
Guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed have left THE DEAD DAISIES, leading to speculation that they will be part of the reunited GUNS N' ROSES lineup.
Fortus and Reed exited THE DEAD DAISIES in order to take part in "a momentous project in 2016," THE DEAD DAISIES said in a statement.
THE DEAD DAISIES have commenced work on a new album with producer Marti Frederiksen in Nashville for a late 2016 release. Joining bassist Marco Mendoza, guitarist David Lowy, singer John Corabi and drummer Brian Tichy in the studio is former WHITESNAKE and DIO guitarist Doug Aldrich.
Lowy says: "It's been a privilege and a pleasure to write, record and perform with such talented world-class musicians and all-around great guys. I've personally learned so much from both of them.
"We're very excited to announce Doug Aldrich will be joining THE DEAD DAISIES in the lead guitar role. Doug was Richard's first pick to replace him. He's a highly accomplished musician, performer and songwriter and we're really looking forward to Doug joining us as THE DEAD DAISIES adventure rolls on."
Aldrich says: "I'm very, very happy to join my friends Marco, Brian, John and David in the next chapter of THE DEAD DAISIES. I love the band and I'm looking forward to getting busy on the new record.
"This band is bringing back a raw, back to the bones sound that a lot of groups go for but THE DEAD DAISIES are looking to nail. At this point in time, we are looking to have a kick-ass rock 'n roll album in the can by spring 2016."
Fortus adds: "When we started speaking about finding someone to replace me, the first suggestion I had was Doug Aldrich. It doesn't get any better than Doug in my book. I am so happy that he is able and willing to step in and take over. I think that it will elevate the band to the next level.
"Thanks to everyone that has supported the DAISIES over the last couple of years. Stay tuned to see what they come up with next. I'm sure you won't be disappointed."
GUNS N' ROSES has announced four headlining performances in April, with original members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan the only members confirmed so far.
The rest of the lineup for the shows — and a potential tour later in the year — remains unclear, although keyboardist Chris Pitman, Reed, drummer Frank Ferrer and Fortus are all believed to be involved.
The status of original members Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler remains unknown, along with that of "Use Your Illusion"-era drummer Matt Sorum.

#52 Guns N' Roses » DAVE MUSTAINE: 'It Would Be Terrific' If STEVEN ADLER And IZZY STRADLI » 491 weeks ago
- Slash McKagan
On the January 24 edition of "The Strombo Show", host George Stroumboulopoulos welcomed MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine for a little conversation to celebrate the release of the band's fifteenth album, "Dystopia".
Asked for his thoughts on the GUNS N' ROSES reunion, Mustaine said: "I don't know that that's going to happen. I certainly hope that it will, but, you know, in order for it to truly be a GUNS N' ROSES reunion, you've gotta ask yourself, 'Who's is gonna be there?' I think that it would be terrific if [drummer] Steven [Adler] and [guitarist] Izzy [Stradlin] was there too, because that would be really, really nostalgic. There's nothing really keeping them from doing it other than personal differences. And I understand — trust me, I just went through that with the [attempted reunion of the] 'Rust In Peace' [lineup] — so sometimes it's not meant to happen. But if it is, that would be so cool."
Mustaine went on to bring up GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose's notorious stage tardiness, saying: "I love GUNS N' ROSES. I think Axl's a great frontman. I just hope that this thing that happened on 'Jimmy Kimmel' the other day [when Axl canceled his appearance on the show] isn't an indication of anything that is going to happen with the tour. I don't know that there's people nowadays that are gonna be hanging out for three, four hours waiting for somebody to show up."
He added: "If I'm having a good time, I wouldn't mind hanging out for an extra amount of time, if there was something going on. Or, like, say, homie's plane is stuck in traffic and it's hard for them to land the plane right now, so he's gonna be a couple of hours late to the concert versus the guy just doesn't wanna come out right now. Which I don't know what the real reasoning is behind anything or why anybody does anything but myself. And even me, fuck, I don't know the reason I do half the stupid stuff I do."
You can listen to Mustaine's entire appearance on "The Strombo Show" at CBC.ca (beginning at around the two-hour-23-minute mark).
Axl, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, along with a lineup that may or may not include original or recent members of GUNS N' ROSES, are reuniting for four confirmed shows so far: two in Las Vegas in early April, and two headlining slots at California's Coachella Music And Arts Festival later that month.
The last time that Slash, Axl and Duff all performed live together was in 1994, although Duff has done a few shows with the latest GUNS iteration in recent years.
Speculation about a GUNS reunion exploded last summer when Slash revealed that he and Axl had repaired their estranged relationship, which prevented them from speaking for the better part of two decades.
GN'R is reportedly negotiating with promoters to play as many as 25 stadiums in North America this summer. The band is said to be asking as much as $3 million per show, with tickets topping out in the $250 to $275 range.

#53 Guns N' Roses » How STEVEN TYLER Helped Reunite GUNS N' ROSES » 491 weeks ago
- Slash McKagan
AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler says that he was one of several people who have tried to get Axl Rose to reunite GUNS N' ROSES with guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
"I'm sure I'm not solely [responsible for them getting back together], but I did meet Axl in a couple of clubs a year ago and two years ago and three years ago," Tyler said on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show. "I bumped into him, and I had that talk… I said, 'You need to get fucking back together again soon, because we all miss you.' Same thing someone said to me when Joe [Perry, AEROSMITH guitarist] and I were fighting. 'You've gotta get back together. What are you, crazy?' In fact, it was Jon Bon Jovi. I'm in rehab. He calls me up and goes, 'What the fuck are you in rehab? The world needs you. We're out here ripping it up, and everybody's asking for AEROSMITH. You need to get out of here, because people in the world need you.'"
He continued: "So I'd say to Axl, 'You've gotta get together. There's a place and time where if you don't, you're gonna miss it.' And in another four or five years, no one's gonna even know who they were or care if they're on tour, and that's Steven Tyler's opinion. And also, I'm the lead singer of another great band, so I have a right to feel that way. I have such a huge ego about keeping the fire and the music together. Because if people come up to me and say, 'Dude, I got laid to your music,' or a woman comes up to me and says, 'We got married to your songs.' You had something to do with the fabric of people. GUNS N' ROSES had something to do with the fabric of humans on this planet, so I get fucking pissed."
Asked if he thinks the GUNS N' ROSES reunion will last, Tyler said: "The point is they're talking to each other. They got an offer for something, and at least they're going out. I think the world needs to hear their music. End of story."
He added: "I can only hope that Axl sees that the greater picture is to not be angry at Duff or Slash, for Axl to understand that he's the lead singer in a great band and the world wants to see Axl with the original band. They love him alone too. He's the shit alone. He's fucking great. Axl's great."
Slash, Axl and McKagan, along with a lineup that may or may not include original or recent members of GUNS N' ROSES, are reuniting for four confirmed shows so far: two in Las Vegas in early April, and two headlining slots at California's Coachella Music And Arts Festival later that month.

#54 Guns N' Roses » GUNS N' ROSES Charging $2,500 For VIP 'Experience' » 491 weeks ago

GUNS N' ROSES are offering a "Signature VIP Experience" at their upcoming Las Vegas shows for $2,500. According to The Pulse Of Radio, the package does not include a meet-and-greet opportunity with Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan. It does include one ticket in the first ten rows, a signed, numbered, limited-edition tour poster, a photo on the stage before the show, a backstage tour, pre-show cocktails, access to a VIP hospitality lounge, a dinner buffet and drinks, prizes, private merchandise shopping and other "perks."
Customers will also get the "Essential Guns N' Roses VIP Gift Bag," including special merchandise and a commemorative VIP laminate and matching lanyard.
GUNS N' ROSES will play on April 8 and April 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas before headlining California's Coachella Music And Arts Festival on April 16 and April 23. A summer tour is also rumored for the reunited group.
Meanwhile, longtime GUNS bassist Tommy Stinson, who was in the band from 1998 until 2014, says that a partial reunion of the group's classic lineup "will be a healing thing" for the musicians involved.
Stinson told The Pulse Of Radio a while back why he stayed with GUNS N' ROSES for so long. "I had doubts at certain points, and the thing that kept me going every time is that I would talk to Axl about this and that, his ideas about what we're doing and what we're gonna do and stuff like that," he said. "And every time, I just kinda had to stop and go, 'You know, he really knows exactly what he wants to get.' Every time I had a doubt, I would talk to him about stuff, and totally be back in it."
Asked how he feels about the recently announced reunion of Axl, Slash and Duff, Stinson told The Current: "I think everyone kind of knows where I stand with it all. I left it in a good way… So I think it worked out. And I think they'll have fun. It will be a healing thing for 'em, if it works out good. It will be good for them."
Other members of the lineup that Stinson was in — including drummer Frank Ferrer and guitarist Richard Fortus — are said to have been retained for the reunion.

#55 Guns N' Roses » DJ ASHBA 'Couldn't Be Happier' About Partial Reunion Of GUNS N' ROSES' » 491 weeks ago
- Slash McKagan
Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba says that he "couldn't be happier" for the band's fans that a partial reunion of GN'R's classic lineup is finally coming together.
Ashba, who joined GUNS N' ROSES in March 2009 following the departure of Robin Finck and stayed in the band until last July, was asked by Jaxon of Philadelphia's 93.3 WMMR radio station in a new interview if he has heard about singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan reuniting for an appearance at California's Coachella Music And Arts Festival. He said : "I did. And as far as that [goes], man, as a fan myself, I couldn't be more stoked for the fanbase. They've waited a long time for this to happen, and, God, it's so good that it's happening. I couldn't be happier for the fans, you know."
Ashba also talked about the difficulties of balancing his involvement in SIXX: A.M. with his touring activities as a member of GUNS N' ROSES. He said: "It was a lot of work, but I've gotta be honest, you know: I had the time of my life. I am beyond grateful to have shared the stage and had so many great memories and met so many great fans out there, and it was just a great time of my life. However, we did this last SIXX: A.M. run, and it just really kind of made me go, 'Wait a second! There is a huge difference here playing somebody else's songs and playing my own.' You know what I mean? I just felt every note I hit. And it's, like, 'Wow! This is where I need to be in.' It was that tour that made me realize, 'I need to go back to what I'm really about.' So I'm really, really stoked."
Ashba issued a statement in July 2015 saying that he was leaving GUNS N' ROSES. His statement read in part: "It is with a very heavy heart and yet great pride that I announce that I've decided to close this chapter of my life and encapsulate the wonderful times that I've shared with GUNS N' ROSES into fond memories. I have reached a point in my life where I feel its time to dedicate myself to my band SIXX: A.M., my adoring wife and family, and to the many new adventures that the future holds for me."
Ashba added: "I want to take a moment to thank Axl from the bottom of my heart for not only the most incredible experience of my life, but for truly believing in me. You are a true friend and a champion of mine and I am forever grateful. And even as I move on to pursue other endeavors, I will always remain one of your biggest fans. I also would like to thank each and every one of you fans for your love and support throughout the years."
Ashba said earlier in his statement that working with GUNS N' ROSES was "the most incredible journey I could have possibly imagined."
SIXX: A.M., which also features MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx and vocalist James Michael, is putting the finishing touches on a new double album, to be released in two parts this year.

#56 Guns N' Roses » TOMMY STINSON: Classic GN'R Reunion 'Will BeHealing Thing' For Them" » 491 weeks ago

Longtime GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson, who was in the band from 1998 until 2014, says that a partial reunion of the group's classic lineup "will be a healing thing" for the musicians involved.
Stinson, a founding member of the seminal Minneapolis-based rock band THE REPLACEMENTS, last played with GUNS N' ROSES at a 2014 show in Las Vegas.
Asked how he feels about the recently announced reunion of GUNS N' ROSES lead singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, Stinson told The Current: "I think everyone kind of knows where I stand with it all. I left it in a good way. I mean, roughly, I actually had to just start turning down tours because I was unable to tour; I got into a position, personally, where my personal life was going to prevent me from doing, I don't know — it must have been about five tours that they called me to do, and I just said I can't do 'em. And at that point, they… I think Axl got to the position where he was, like, 'Okay, so what am I going to do now? 'Cause I don't have a band. Blah blah blah.' So I think it worked out. And I think they'll have fun. It will be a healing thing for 'em, if it works out good. It will be good for them."
Pressed on which other members of GUNS N' ROSES are involved in the reunion, Stinson said: "I don't really know. I know that it's Duff and it's Slash and it's Axl, and that's all I know right now."
GUNS N' ROSES — featuring Rose Slash and McKagan — will be one of the first acts to play the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, set to open April 6. They will play at the venue on April 8 and April 9.
Ahead of April's headlining slot at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, GUNS N' ROSES is also rumored to be planning a secret show in the Los Angeles area next month as a warm-up.
GUNS N' ROSES is reportedly negotiating with promoters to play as many as 25 stadiums in North America this summer. For the tour, GN'R is said to be asking as much as $3 million per show, with tickets topping out in the $250 to $275 range.

Do you really think that the general audience knows, and gives two flying shits that Duff fucking McKagan is there? I don't give a damn how many MyGNR nerds post in the comment section on Yahoo articles, to the general public, again... a reunion = Axl & Slash.
Know why?
Duff performed with Axl & Dizzy for several shows as GN'R in 2014... and N-O-B-O-D-Y C-A-R-E-D.
Outside of the diehards
All of the sudden Slash comes back, and we're talking $3-4 million a show, there the #1 story in rock for the last 6 months, other than a few rock star deaths.
So yes... Duff is as important as Dizzy. So why didn't Dizzy get a slice of the pie? 26 years is a lot of loyalty. My only guess is Dizzy has no writing credits on the old catalog, and/or Dizzy was asked and decline (which would be dumb, but then again -- Izzy declined too).
Why does Duff get all this credit? What makes him so special from a business standpoint, and a money standpoint? Let's be honest... this is ALL ABOUT -- SLASH being back.
Duff is the glue between Axl and Slash. The fact Duff and Axl hooked up after many years is likely the main reason Axl changed his mind on Slash. Duff is a cool, smart guy and I have no doubt he played pracemaker here.
I agree Duff played peacemaker here, and probably was able to help them understand each others' points. He deserves that credit.
But the Dizzy comment I made was not to prop up Dizzy, but to knock down Duff.
The truth is, I could take Axl + Slash, plus Reb Beach, Tommy Aldridge, and pretty much all of David Coverdale's backing band from Whitesnake currently, and call it "Guns N' Roses REUNION"
And 99% of the public wouldn't know a damn thing about Duff McKagan not being there. Me wonders if this branding has to do with some of those "I felt like chopped liver" complaints that Duff made during the UYI period about how he was so involved, yet would walk into a hotel, have hundreds of people rush right past him and mob Axl for an autograph. Yet Duff was just as involved with creating GN'R as Axl... and yet no one cared.
Maybe this is Axl & Slash's thank you to Duff. Branding and marketing him as an equal player to GN'R. But again, if you're gonna do it for a no-name like Duff (let's be REALLY honest here), why not Dizzy who has the 2nd most tenure in GN'R behind Axl?
Just a thought
Duff is more important than you give him credit for...

U.K.'s BBC Four will air "The Most Dangerous Band In The World: The Story Of Guns N' Roses" on February 5 at 10 p.m..
In 1985, Sunset Strip in Los Angeles gave birth to what would become one of the most successful and notorious rock bands of all time: GUNS N' ROSES. Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler formed a band that would change the history of rock 'n' roll.
They produced one of the greatest debut albums of all time and went on to play to countless millions. Always uncompromising, GUNS N' ROSES are an essential band in the musical lexicon.
Award-winning director Jon Brewer ("B.B. King: The Life Of Riley" and "Nat King Cole: Afraid Of The Dark") tells the story of "The Most Dangerous Band In The World" and how they came from playing bars on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles to stadiums across the world. The explosive rise of one of the most notorious bands of our times — it's a story of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll in excess. The film has been painstakingly compiled from a host of exclusive, never-before-heard interviews, and the early footage of GUNS fan and friend Marc Canter.
It is testament to the legacy of this band that the past few years have been dominated with rumours of a reunion of the original members — which is now set to take place in 2016 at Coachella festival — with more dates rumoured. This raw, insightful and compelling documentary tells the story of how it all began and what really happened behind the scenes. The film features exclusive interviews with the likes of Steven Adler — drummer, GUNS N' ROSES; Marc Canter — childhood friend of Slash from GUNS N' ROSES; Vicky Hamilton – former manager of GUNS N' ROSES; Saul Hudson (a.k.a. Slash) — lead guitarist of GUNS N' ROSES; Mario Maglieri — owner of the Rainbow Bar And Grill and Whisky A Go Go; Michael Monroe — lead singer of HANOI ROCKS; Matt Sorum — drummer of GUNS N' ROSES; Tom Zutaut — A&R executive who discovered and signed GUNS N' ROSES. It also features exclusive live footage from Marc Canter — the man who documented the early days of GUNS N' ROSES.
GUNS N' ROSES are one of the most successful rock bands of all time, with their debut album "Appetite For Destruction" selling over 30 million copies worldwide and spawning some of the most famous rock songs ever written, like "Welcome To The Jungle", "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Paradise City". Since that release in 1987, the original lineup of GUNS N' ROSES have gone to sell over 80 million records worldwide, releasing "G N' R Lies" in 1988, "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" in 1991, and "The Spaghetti Incident?" in 1993.
Director Jon Brewer is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after filmmakers of the past decade; he has a way of telling the stories of icons which has captured audiences worldwide. His previous work has included documentaries on Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King and Nat King Cole.
This film was commissioned for BBC Four by Jan Younghusband, head of commissioning, music TV.

AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler says that he has been working on the return of GUNS N' ROSES for years and has predicted that the reunion of Slash, Axl Rose and Duff McKagan will be "huge."
GUNS N' ROSES will play two shows before its mid-April appearance at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival in California, with the band now scheduled to perform at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 8 and April 9, just days after the venue opens for business on April 6.
GUNS N' ROSES' headlining slots on April 16 and April 23 at the Coachella event in Indio, California were confirmed earlier this month after widespread speculation that the band would appear at the festival.
The band's lineup will feature Rose, Slash and McKagan performing together for the first time since 1994, although the rest of the group roster has yet to be confirmed.
Speaking to Getty Images while preparing to board a flight at the Los Angeles International Airport, Tyler said about GUNS N' ROSES' comeback: "I've been working on it for years." He explained that he "just told [Slash] that the world needs more rock and roll and [there is] enough of people arguing, especially when they're as talented and as great. Everybody loves their songs. That's what rock and roll is about."
Asked how big be thinks the GUNS N' ROSES reunion will be, Tyler responded: "Huge. There are no words." But he cautioned: "Just don't forget this: it don't happen 'till it happens."
Pressed on why he thinks Slash and Rose finally decided to reunite after more than twenty years, Tyler said: "'Cause obviously there was a row, and they finally made up. What do you think?"
GN'R is reportedly negotiating with promoters to play as many as 25 stadiums in North America this summer. The band is said to be asking as much as $3 million per show, with tickets topping out in the $250 to $275 range.
In an interview with Guitar World, AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry said about the classic lineup of GUNS N' ROSES: "[They] were great and really made a mark in rock and roll history. It's a shame that whatever energy they saw in each other on that first record they couldn't sustain. They made a great record and could have been huge all around the world for as long as they wanted."
He added in a separate chat with USA Today: "It would be great for the original [GUNS N' ROSES] to get back together, but it takes more than great songs to keep a band going. Slash has done an amazing job on his own."
