Hell, even Izzy said years ago that when he was approached after the Gilby departure that Axl was obsessed with doing a grunge record.
"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" is the closest thing to a grunge record that any member of that band past or present has ever done...
If Axl did, I doubt he would have had to say much much to either Duff or Slash.
As for the trends, according to Lars Ulrich Axl wanted to do a NIN style kinda thing before anyone else had even heard of them. He brought them on tour, they got booed of stage, yet he didn't change is mind.

Sex Pistols Fans Call Live Return 'Worst Gig Ever'
Sex Pistols fans have hit out at the punk outfit's return to the live stage in the UK, calling last night's Brixton Academy gig 'embarrassing.'
Gigwise has received a number of comments from fans, who have hit out at what they call a 'dire' and 'shoddy' show. Last night's show was the first of five at the London venue, following the band's stint in America.
One impassioned comment reads: 'Went last night. They were shite to the point of embarrassing. I'm aware that some might say '˜well that's the point, they were never good', but honestly, save your money and put Never Mind the Bollocks back on the CD player. Worst gig ever.'
The band arrived on stage last night 30 minutes late and kick started their set with '˜Pretty Vacant.' A rotund John Lydon blasted through all the hits including '˜Anarchy in the UK' and '˜God Save The Queen.'

It doesn't sound like Axl would sing that stuff, if Axl wrote the lyrics the music would change, it was pretty clear that when it got to the UYI era half the music was based around the lyrics not the other way around.
My point is, to me it doesn't sound like a Guns N' Roses album, Guns N' Roses made three albums, two of them did not sound like AFD, Snakepit does not sound like AFD....
I know you already know this but:
AFD
Lies
UYI I
UYI II
TSII assume you're not counting Lies and TSI cuz one's an EP and the other is covers?
Yes and non of them sound like the Snakepit stuff either.

the majority of those tunes were written for GnR, you can tell, same with Gilby's pawnshop guitars album, some of those songs were written for GnR .... just how they are constructed
Axl & Izzy wrote or co-wrote the majority of Guns N' Roses song lyrics...

like coma and dont cry are such happy songs
But as you know, they don't sound anything like something from the SnakePit stuff.
#5647 Re: Guns N' Roses » Steve Jones On Chinese Democracy... (From 1996) » 919 weeks ago
By the sound of it, Axl was able to bribe Neurotic Outsiders into canceling their plans by having Jones be involved in the CD project. I am surprised Taylor wasn't invited as well.
Having Jones was probably similar to the Brian May thing, he was playing with a childhood hero/rock legend.
However with Taylor, I'd be surprised if Axl was listening to Duran Duran during the 80s.

He should have appeared on BTM, it was a total Axl bash fest, he could have at least gave his perspective on things they were saying and not make it so easy for them to point all fingers at him.
I agree, at least it appears Duff & Izzy weren't that negative...
...But Duff couldn't be, he was at Axls side while everyone else left.

Wow....I think the riffs on snakepit 1 = as good as AFD riffs...if axl was on that record it would be as good as any GNR release I think...
I disagree, I personally am glad Axl wasn't on that album.
There are some good tracks, but the album as a whole is too depressing, this was one of the things Axl probably meant about Slash not wanting to write happy songs or something like that.

Axl has dropped for us to drool over, you will notice basically nothing adds up. The puzzle doesn't fit. Sure, Slash has been known to twist the truth (or flat-out lie) once in a while, but it doesn't necessarily discredit the shitload of stuff he told us about that does add up; and the fact to bullshit ratio is waaay higher in Axl's case than in Slash's.
Everything Axl said in this rant adds up, which is the topic. The other bands members practically admitted that they didn't like those songs and it was Axl who forced them to do alot of the UYI era stuff.
Axl hasn't exactly changed his story that much over the years...
(And encase the AFD thing is brought up, non of the leaks so far sound like something from AFD.)
