I personally don't believe the whole "Donor" storyline.

I think what happened was that Eric got pissed off and decided to shut the forum on impulse. Then he needed an excuse when he realized what he had done. It's like a 13-year-old girl who gets mad at her friends and threatens to delete her Facebook. Except that Eric is a grown ass man of course.

I bet we never here of this "Donor" again, except for Eric telling us he/she is now footing the bills (which no one can prove of course).

Most likely all of those people are BBA. He has 94 accounts on that board according to him and he was always a fan of hers for some reason. Also Madison has at least 3 accounts there.

Mygnr was more censored under her than anyone.

Freedom of speech typically applies to the government. If people were being arrested for discussing Axl's pubic hair, I could understand the outcry.

However I see nothing wrong with an internet fan site saying to people "Sorry, but you're not going to spam our message board with crap topics about pubic hair, what someone eats, and where they walk their dog. And you're not going to derail every topic into a fight, or come here just to get a rise out of the fans by insulting the band over and over again."

That kind of stuff is what runs off your intelligent posters and it's exactly what happened at MYGNR. Who wants to flip through 3 pages of crap just to find the news? Not when you can come here and find it instantly, because that stuff isn't allowed.

A mystery person wants to buy it now? This is absurd. Nothing more than a pathetic attmept by Eric to get more people to donate money to his forum. If he was so pissed off at GNR not doing anything like he claimed, he'd have shut it down on day one.

HTGTH really has the potential to be a decent board if Jarmo would just ease up a little bit on what is allowed and not be such an ass to people.

They've got a great group of smart posters there and almost zero trolls. And while there are some ass kissers of various kinds, most people there can look at things objectively. If Jarmo would allow an Old Guns section and be more allowing in terms of topics posted about New Guns, I think he's be shocked by how many people would enjoy posting there again.

Because a big turn off with these other boards has been the trolling and the fighting.

It's too weird to blame it on "no touring". For crying out loud, he ran that site for how many years with shit going on. Suddenly GNR goes on a 14 month tour and 5 months later he excuses the closure of the site on "no touring"?.

Shit doesn't add up.

It honestly sounds like he's more butt hurt about Gnr not giving him money and sending him that legal letter (which actually happens quite a bit with celebrity websites and possible slander, that wasn't special). But with the kind of trolling he allowed, I'm not sure what expected. Yes free speech is nice, but do you really think an artist is going to support your fan site when you've got people claiming to have his hacked emails that they are willing to sell?

I disagree with saying gnr wanted to kick the site to curb when it suited them and was planning this all along. I think they'd have been more than happy to keep Eric on their good side, seeing as that site had such a larger crowd. I think the msl thing is what changed that and axl wrote them off after.

The madison fiasco looks completely different in hindsight now. It was the first nail in the coffin of mygnr and what makes it laughable is all the people pissing and moaning about the site's demise were cheering that on. The lead singer of the band the site was devoted to demanded the removal of the person who ran it for nine years yet no one thought that would have consequences?

mygnr sold out but wasn't allowed to go balls deep in the selling out and get continuous, never ending perks. It was the most active site for YEARS and became even more active when Jarmo went official. I guess the desire for shows, backstage passes, and emails from Beta were so strong they were willing to risk it all.

Now look where they are. Axl never needed the site and I told that to madison when all that shit went down. The GNR camp has an official forum. They don't need 2, 3,etc. They need ONE to filter content through and the strategy to play the two other major sites like a fiddle until tossing them aside like garbage was a checkmate move on the online community.

mygnr is now dead. Now all that remains is cd.com which is a borderline troll factory, newgnr which is a virtual clone of that, gunsnfnroses which is a small yet active community similar to this one, and GNRevo.

HTGTH is king and will be the site where ALL news is filtered through. Every other site that still exists will be littered with links to HTGTH for almost every future topic, which effectively neuters all other sites, regardless of no censorship or how close the communities are.

My long ago prediction that there would eventually only be one forum and it would be affiliated with the band/official website is a large step closer to reality.

I for one was tired of Madison long before Axl called her out, as were many people. She abused her power over and over again and thats why people cheered her being removed. Not because Axl wanted her gone. It was not strange to me at all and it should have happened sooner. She was banning anyone who didn't agree with her on anything.

Her removal wasn't the problem. What that board needed was an unbiased moderator that would put a stop to some of the trolling and the spamming. It never got that though, as Eric showed no interest in it.

I am glad this place is around. This seems to be the only board that encourages smart discussion. Gunsnfnroses is mainly haters, HTGTH is mainly stans and the other two are just spam like MYGNR.

I had hoped it would get better with her gone, but Eric just brought in more people who ignored the real issues. It just got to be such an unpleasant place to read. The trolling is way out of control and not one thing has been done to curb that. If he expected Axl to give him money or support that forum in its current shape, I'm not sure what he's smoking.

If I was his manager I'd be trying to get Slash to bring out a second comilation album seeking the services of  people like Dave Grohl, Mike Patton, James Hetfield, Lady GaGa, Tom Yorke, Chris Cornell, Bille Joe Armstrong, Bono & Rianna. A real lucky bag of assorted charms for all ears.

That would be awesome except where would he get the money? If I remember right, Slash had to pay for the production of his last album. Since that album only had so-so sales, I can't imagine him finding the cash to pay for those kinds of names this time around.

Myles really is his best option.

"I often browse other band’s websites and fan forums and truly envy how those other bands have embraced the internet, fan forums, and fans"

In all fairness, I think this goes both ways. I have never seen a fansite for another band or musician run the way MYGNR was run. I don't think I could log onto a Bon Jovi site right now and see a thread by a person claiming to have Jon's hacked emails. Nor do I think I'd find a Britney Spears site where every thread is hijacked into a fight between haters and fans.

He can complain that GNR isn't doing anything, but when they were touring last year it was the same crap. The board was poorly moderated and it got to the point that it was impossible to read, much less enjoy. Eric allowed this to happen and I'm not sure why he thinks Axl or anyone from GNR would ever give him money to support the forum.
