Until we have a release date and there's music officially released there is nothing coming in my opinion.
We literally have two years' worth of quotes from Slash and Fortus talking about a new album, jamming new songs etc. We have the band soundchecking and playing unreleased songs. The fact they're doing that tallies with the earlier rumours from the likes of MSL that Slash and Duff had reworked tracks like Atlas Shrugged.
At this point it's like denying the nose on your face.
I know you've all been burned by years of DJ Ashba and Bumblefoot blithering on about a new album coming "any minute now, guys!" But the fact is, the moment Slash and Duff walked in the door, the circumstances changed. The record company that didn't give a shit about Axl and His Funny Friends suddenly takes a keen interest in The Fucking Guns N' Roses Reunion Album, the thing they wanted all along, from 1995 to the present day. All the obstacles they threw in Axl's path because they did not give the tiniest fuck about Buckethead suddenly melt away.
And yes, the album was a long time coming. Because, as I've said with numbing frequency, there is no point releasing an album immediately when the purpose of albums nowadays is to promote a tour. The mere fact of the reunion kept the tour chugging along for three, four years. And then, just as they were gearing up for the "release an album to keep the machine ticking over" phase of the tour, fucking COVID dropped.
And yes, I know that other artists released albums in lockdown, but the fact is, you get one shot at the GN'R reunion album. It's one of the few totemic releases left in rock (maybe an Oasis reunion album?). You don't shit it out when everyone's locked in their homes and you can't milk its ability to promote the tour for all it's worth. Not with a savvy businessman like Duff on board.

Even with silkworms being played. It could just be a throw away song to justify the "new show" branding on the tour. I just don't see it being on an actual release. But then again I don't believe there will be an actual release so who am I to say shit.
You'll be denying the new album even when you're holding the CD in your hands...

Funny thing is, we know Axl browses the forums.
There's a not-insignificant chance that he's in here reading us complaining about losing "a bitch like you," and singing the opening verse of Slither all wrong (for fuck's sake, Axl), and he's just going to double down and go, "Fuck 'em, I do what I want." He's nothing if not stubborn.
I mean, the fact that he's clung onto Silkworms for 20 years, through three different incarnations of the band, when half the fanbase hates it is hilarious to me.
Truly, he is a master troll.
#484 Re: Guns N' Roses » Why can't the fanbase drop the negativity even when there is good news » 272 weeks ago
Yeah, stop fucking whining guys. Like, they played a new song (yeah, alright, a new song from 2000, but a song that has not been on a GN'R album). That is the clearest sign yet that there is a new album in the works.
And yeah, personally I don't get Axl's attachment to Silkworms/Absurd; I can think of three or four better songs from the leaks, but whatever, it's his baby. And you can see he's stoked to be doing something new.
I'm hoping that the new album is a mix of the best of those CDII demos plus some new contributions from Slash, Duff and the rest of the band. It'd be nice to know they've worked something up as a band, from scratch, rather than relying on polishing 20-year-old demos.

This is good news for State of Grace and Perhaps which I think are great fucking songs.
I also think Eye on You has great verse melody even if Axl went a bit far with the daddy mac stuff.
Eye on You is fucking great. It's pretty obvious that the "mack daddy" stuff is meant to be placeholder/background layers with some actual lyrics over the top of it.

I miss "What can I do/With a bitch like you?"
Put that back in the studio version, it's much better than just shouting "Absurd" over and over.

Well, last night changed the calculus, didn't it?
#488 Re: Guns N' Roses » We don't really expect a new setlist do we? » 272 weeks ago
So he's gone from "a bitch like you", removed it and now shouts "Absurd!". Not sure that works too well. If it was in the interests of being PC, surely he would've removed the "pussy full of maggots" line?
Kinda annoyed they lost "A bitch like you." That was the best bit of the song! Still though. Who had "Slash playing Silkworms" on their bingo card?

Yeah that was good even though he sings it differently. The verses sound a tad awkward after hearing it millions of times like I have.
I love how no one gives a shit when the song kicks in but it gets a good crowd pop at the end.
It really is a bad ass song that got wasted when it was released.
I wouldn't be opposed to an updated version getting released at some point.
I just wish he'd sing Slither using the same voice he did for Chinese Democracy, there...

I just thought of the perfect cover to replace one of the current covers.
Let Axl go get oxygen and let Melissa tackle a song....
I GUARANTEE you it will get a bigger crowd pop than any cover not named KOHD and LALD.
Women in their 30s-40s will go ape shit when that intro kicks in.
I'm honestly surprised they haven't brought Melissa up front. Get her to do a duet with Axl. Gimme Shelter or something.
Anyway, after all the shit talk about this show I watched some of it. There's more aggression and venom in this Chinese Democracy performance than Axl's put in in a long time:
