What is or isn't racist appears to be very subjective...When RF said something to the effect of, "black people should be grateful that they were brought to this country as slaves," I considered it racist. He disagreed obviously.

Sometimes I wonder if RF thinks racism even exists.

Context please.  I said that when blacks in America are asking for reparations, they should consider what the average life of someone in modern Africa is like.  Can you name one country in Africa where the average black has a better quality of life than the average black in the US?  Since I know you can't, in the context of reparations, I think modern blacks should be grateful for the horror their ancestors endured.  Otherwise they'd be enjoying the same quality of life as people living on that continent today.

I don't think you guys even understand what racism means since you so often confuse facts with racism.

To be honest, I don't recall the reparations part because,  well in all honesty it never seemed like a legitimate solution to anything.

I don't see this point of view as fact though. I see it as an interpretation.
It's a pretty unique way to interpret the whole thing.  If a young child was kidnapped by strangers who were able to provide a better quality of life does that justify the kidnapping?

Maybe what you're saying is over my head, but in essence if I'm interpreting what you were saying correctly, then what I said above would be my summary.

That is incorrect.. Fannie Mae was VERY much involved....  They helped push up demand for housing in the low end of the market making subprime loans more attractive to other institutions as housing prices rice steadily.  They bought 25% of the 272.81 billion in subprime mortgage back securities in 2006, 35.3% in 2005 and 44% in 2004.  They were a big player..

You started off talking about the community reinvestment act. I addressed that. You then answered me with Fannie Mae-which isn't the same thing. However there is no connection between the two. In addition it's private lenders who gave out the bulk of subprime loans. The private lenders were not beholden to any government regulation or oversight. These private mortgage lenders were propped up with hedge fund money in most cases. As soon as these loans were issued, they were sold off to be repackaged by Wall Street.  Once they were repackaged into securities, the agencies gave them AAA ratings (to me one of the biggest offenses.) Those crappy security bundles were then sold to retirement pensions around the country and world. After a certain point the same people selling them (Goldman Sachs for instance) began to short them. All of this is just a segment of what was going on with Wall Street preceding the crash.

It's just one more cheap lie hustled from the right, so everybody would blame "poor people" for the crash instead of Wall Street. How anybody could fall for something so ridiculous and transparent is beyond me. Reminds me of my asshole cousin who said the same thing during the crash. Guess he couldn't take responsibility for the 8 homes and one condo he lost in south Florida. Of course he blamed it on everybody but himself. Can't say I felt sorry for him...

You friend is wrong. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were involved and were part of the game but were not the sole reason.

Again, do you think Dodd/Frank is about oversight for Fannie Mae? Or Wall Street? Hello???

If you aren't aware, the Republicans want to get rid of that. Lifting regulations on Wall Street once again so they can be free to partake in more fuckery, risky loans, CDOs and OTC derivatives. It will probably be one of the first things (in theory) that Trump does. Give Wall Street free range to run riot.

Fantastic post!

And again, this is standard Repug procedure....deregulation...no protections for the consumer...

poor people are always the problem right SG?

Here again....I said nothing about Hitler....wtf are you talking about you drone....quick go back to FOX news and find out what you should say next!!!!

Come on Mitch...you're better than that. Let's not use the "you do nothing but parrot talking points" debate tactic. It's bush league. While you are correct you didn't mention Hitler you also understood why he did.....many people have referred to Trump as the next Hitler.

The only part that I disagree with I suppose....is that 'the half of the country that didn't vote for Obama' sucked it up. The anger about Obama/Obamacare never subsided IMHO.

Yeah we sucked it up. YOu didn't see people rioting, protesting, and assaulting innocent old men in the street. It was on the news some 11 year old boy got assaulted for voting Trump at his school's mock election. None of this stuff happened during the Obama presidency.

As far as Obamacare goes, the reason that has had criticism from the get go is because it continually got worse and even the people who supported it now believe it should be changed.

ID....

Last night, Elizabeth Warren said she was open to working with Trump and is optimistic he will want to help the working class like he promised, and she'll be right there to help him.

Trump would be very smart to start tackling issues that will help the working class. They are who ascended him into the presidency and he will become as popular as Reagan if people start seeing results fairly quickly. People who are happy don't have the time to waste on protests.

I agree with this. Trump is not my major concern, it's the people he's surrounding himself with. Pence is one of them. He put a coal/oil endorsed lobbiest and climate change deniar in charge of the enviorment. I was banking on Christie, though I can't stand him, to keep him in line, but he was demoted because of wanting to move forward, not prosecute Hillary and filling the cabinet with actual policy makers who know what they're doing, but it looks like he's listening to the lackeys.

I'm really hoping he doesn't start drowning in neocon appointments. Trump has a chance to be a gamechanger to a degree.....so capitalize on it.

We really need for Trump to stand up against his party.

Considering the fact that he's not really a republican, I assume he will have little difficulty in doing this.

How do you separate your posts like that? I want to learn how take quotes from separate my responses.

Apparently they've been inviting him for years and he always declines. He says he just wants to be left alone.

I can't blame the guy. The way he was treated was completely unacceptable. I'd give them a great big FU too if I were him. Buckner was able to make amends with Red Sox fans after they finally won, but that was nearly 2 decades later. He was forced out of town and had to move his family to Iowa. And he was a player. Bartman was just a fan who did what many fans would, and did do in that very moment. Yet he became the reason they lost. He had to be ushered out by security that night for his own safety. He received death threats and had to move and go into hiding pretty much. I'd want absolutely nothing to do with the Cubs after that. I'm sure he stills roots for them, but in private. I'd probably find it difficult to even do that much.

I can totally understand that. One detail that might be interesting to you is that I have heard he actually still attends Cubs games at wrigley. He just does it like any other fan would.

They banished Buckner to Iowa? No one deserves that!

Guys...I'm afraid we are in for something worse than the 2000 election fiasco

Naahhhh, 2000 we didn't even know who won, there was about a 6 week wait to find it, it came down to hand checking ballots & some were disqualified because the machines couldn't punch a whole right (hanging chads).  It was so archaic. Plus it came down to like 2 or 3 counties in FL as well. What was the final difference in FL, 30,000 or something?  (But there were more than that that were disqualified).

Really, that came down to a lawsuit.  I agree there are more protests this time around. And there will be, but I'm not sure it would be called "worse" unless they continue to move in a violent direction. Plus, Obama would like call for peace (Until Trump takes office, then this is his mess")

"Congratulations. This is all your mess now. Good luck!"

LOL...congrats...here's your mess...

I just mean that the anger is boiling over. I hope it subsides but all my blue friends can talk about is how we can stop Trump...stop him from getting elected or how we can impeach him.

I wonder how long these protests around his buildings will last.

Can anyone give me some of the basic bullet points on single payer healthcare systems?

I'm going to research it over the weekend but I'd like a skeleton outline if you would be so kind.
