#431 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ Ashba Live Chat » 831 weeks ago

In DJ's defense, this wasn't billed as a chat for GNR fans to discuss GNR's past, present, and future.  We all knew what we were gonna get out of this, which isn't much.  We found out he's STILL in the band, whatever that may mean to you since he still hasn't appeared with the band anywhere.  But he's still excited about being in GNR and working with Axl.  This I Love is his favorite song on Chinese Democracy.

Like it or not, he has a built in fanbase (made up of mostly girls).  They like the guy for his work in SixxAM, and I'm guessing his boyish good looks, and that's mostly who was involved in the chat.  I'd say the ratio was 80% DJ fans (most of which didn't seem to like GNR), and 20% GNR fans, so again it wasn't strictly a GNR chat.  Apparently he just likes to hang out (relatively speaking) and chat with some of HIS fans.  There's nothing wrong with that.

All in all, I'd agree that it was a waste of time to an extent from a GNR sense.  But to call it the lowpoint in the bands history is a HUGE stretch, as it wasn't meant to be about GNR.

megh.

Sixamm might have had a couple radio hits, and a few mall kids might be riding his nuts, but him joining GnR, then no-selling questions is kind've analogous to my best friend joining the LA Lakers and then not wanting to talk about it when we go out drinking a week later.

Obviously GnR's internet fanbase is rabid, obsessive, nerdy, and overwhelmingly braindead.

If he held a chat and expected anything less than a flood of reasonable and ridiculous GnR questions, then he's a moron. So yes, it was a complete waste of time, and only a lowpoint in gnr history, because at this point, every new development is.

Holy. Shit.

What a fucking joke. I'm in the minority that think DJ is gonna be a hell of a performer, but what was even the point of that? Seriously? Who thought that would be a good idea?

Me too. I've always been on the ship - "they intentionally leaked to test audience appeal and reaction" also.

That's a huge leap of logic, because that would assume the band wanting feedback, and actually having some sort of a plan for anything.

Good theory, but barely plausible.

Yes, its been confirmed by Herwitz.

And Axlin08, I promise you it'll be your favorite show of all time if you rent the first season dvd and watch at least the first 10 episodes.

I know this is 2 pages ago, but I've been at work for 10 hours.

Eddie knows his shit, and Eddie is an expert on the situation with Guns N' Roses, as much as anyone in his line of work can be.

Actually, Eddie has admitted before that he thought AFD was decent, didn't care for UYI, and isn't a huge fan. He might know a bit, but knowing and caring are way different. I wouldn't call him an expert on something he cares very little about.

Eddie could've talked about alot of things, including CD's trx, what was Ron's favorite, what he wanted to perform live, talked about the 2006 visit from Axl and Ron was a secret then, and what he thought about that, what he thought about old Guns, was there any favorite tracks he had from the old band, what is it like being in a band like Guns N' Roses...

Actually, I think most, if not all of those questions were asked, and not only was there no substance given in Ron's answers, he forgot to bring his new CD he was there to promote.

Mix that with old GN'R cuts, and maybe some Ron solo during the to and from breaks on his show, and you've pretty much got an interview, minus any phone calls. If all else fails, he can bullshit about Ron's current favorite music in his MP3 player and what he thinks of Buckethead, the person who's shoes he's filling.

I thought the chatroom session afterwards was way funnier, with assholes pestering him about Dizzy Reed playing Pokemon and if Axl listened to Disney music as an influence.

100% pure garbage and God shouldn't even allow internet space to go to waste on such tripe. Complete imbeciles asking questions, and he knows less about GNR than we do and it sounds like he doesn't even give two shits one way or the other. He also makes Fortus look like a talking encyclopedia of knowledge. In fact, if we were to put Bill Cosby, Ronald McDonald, and DJ Ashba into game of GNR Jeopardy, while I don't know who would win, I'd wager Wonka's last gobstopper that Ashba comes in third.

I would have preferred the usual "no comment" than the garbage spewed during this "chat".

Can this even be classified as a chat? I think a new word needs to be invented for what I just read.

What a sad state of affairs. I seriously think this "band" just reached its lowest point ever this evening with this "chat", and that is really saying something considering the highs and lows we have been through.

Now you know why he is not featured on the Evo banner, and wont be until he appears on some GNR album credits.

Would you mind posting the transcript? Some of us aren't allowed at mygnr because its basically a bigger HTGTH now.

Was pumped before CD.  Cd to me was a huge let down.  And no I don't care anymore.  Got what I wanted and that's CD.  I always expected nothing would happen after CD's release if it would get released.  And so far Axl is proving me right.

To be honest, the biggest letdown of CD was the fact that Axl's vocal tracks were the same from 1999. With the exception of a little more work on TWAT and Chi Dem, they all appear to be just protooled Beavan era vocals.

What's ironic/expected/surprising/unsurprising about that is the number of rerecordings, fills, overdubs, etc that Axl reportedly demanded.

Kinda like that one video from RAR (don't even know if its still on youtube) of Axl stopping madagascar, and demanding in a diva-like fashion that they restart it and do it right.

If only he had demanded the same level of perfection and effort out of his VMA and RIR singing voice, I think this 02 comeback could've been 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

MTV was still stoked for Axl's return until the cringe worthy embarassment of the VMA performance.

After the situation with that woman that got levied like a $2 million dollar fine, for uploading a bunch of stuff on torrents & P2P programs, AND the only case to ever go to trial...

Most artists and judges agree that the RIAA wastes everyone's time, trying to jail mothers, for uploading/downloading music.

The RIAA lost the battle long ago, and this was their death knell. Like with Cogill, sentences and/or judgments will get less and less and less. Most likely, had Cogill just kept his self-congratulatory mouth shut, he would've probably just had his internet cancelled by his provider, and nothing more.

This wasn't an RIAA civil suit, though, this was FBI criminal.

I'm sure if the result had been a little different, or Skwerl hadn't cooperated, the RIAA would've followed through with a suit...in fact, they still can if they want to be that lame.

I guess this moves MSL up to #1 on the public enemy chart, lol.

Didn't he leak shackler's from China, though? I'm sure that dude is pretty good about covering his tracks. He's a clever guy.

this thread fails if the wire and arrested development don't make it

#440 Re: Guns N' Roses » So where does GN'R stand right now and what is the current news? » 831 weeks ago

What was the story of Robin getting pissed at Axl in Mexico city for delaying the shows due to anxiety or something? Sounds like a BS rumor, but I remember reading it somewhere, anyone care to reset that?
