The MIA analogy is horrible. MIA and her management are shrewd, efficient, and professional. Axl...is not these things.

I assume by that you mean that you think it's his fault for not releasing more material faster. Because, in my opinion, while new music is great for fans, I would expect that the band sees leaks as harmful or at a minimum frustrating. Artisticly to the band they're unfinsihed, and while the band may drag its feet comercially, I don't think it helps to give out the album free in advance.
To be honest i see these leaks as a double edge sword. Axl is my favourite singer ever - so i'd kill to hear anything new - but at the same time i think it sucks that his albums are getting ruined in this way.
I know many will say its his own fault for not releasing earlier. But it's still fucked on some level. Sure the 06 leaks sustained many of us and kept our interest - but I also think listening to Chinese Democracy in 2008 without having ever heard any leak would have been totally mindblowing....i feel some of these antics steal the thunder of the band....
Well, its not like he waited until the time was right or the album was complete -- just look at the shit rush job of the booklet and promotion.
Something/someone forced his hand. At this point MSL, Skwerl, etc might be the only reason we hear new music, or got Chinese Democracy in the first place.

What are the "Chinese D masters"? Hopefully not just different mixes of the album?
They're the separate instrumental master tracks from the Rock Band 2 disc. You'll be able to hear only the bass in better, for example

When Shackler's leaked, people were actually permitted to talk about it on the largest site. Then, when the record leaked a couple weeks before launch, no mention of the songs was permitted at all.
Not that the site was perfect, threads about Axl's hair and pirate dance moves were embarrassing to all GnR fans (which is often something you already don't want to mention in public), but the mods did a total 180 in mid-November.

Yes, they do. They didn't use to. They aren't doing it out of "respect for the band," or fear of legal action, they want to get "exclusive" stuff from management, or to get meaningless "merry christmas" calls from Axl. Fucking fanboys.
That funny youtube video making fun of Jarmo can now be applied to almost all the gnr boards out there.
It's just mega lame to disrespect the fans because of the request of a dysfunction band that can't be bothered to throw their most hardcore fans a bone.
When "unofficial" boards become mouthpieces and arms for management, what is the point of being in a censored community?

I understand wanting to avoid legal liability (although sites being held liable for content posted by others is still a dubious legal gray area), but quashing discussion? That's for the birds.

I think the overall end point, is you'd be hard pressed to find a 'bad' Guns N' Roses song. I think that's why we all love this band.
The best part is that people pretend that My World doesn't even exist anymore, lol.
