Ron and Frank were the newest fall guys for why CD had to be delayed.
They did what the boss told them.
First it was Robin quitting.
Then it was Buckethead joining.
Buckethead's illness.
Tommy's hand.
More recording. Soon is not the word.
Buckethead's "inconsistent and erratic behavior".
Brain's baby.
Recording wasn't finished (after Axl had a wrap party).
One of these 10 Tuesdays.
Ron and Frank had to be added to CD.
Needed to be remixed.
Tommy's hand again.God this band blows.
I feel like my youth flashed before my eyes.

This was our clue....
Once it was shit canned for PC, that was our clue it wasn't coming out.
Yeah the album is simply too monotonous/repetitive. It keeps covering the same ground.
Around 2-3 of those songs should've been ditched in favor of these two or something else.
Street of Dreams
There Was A Time
This I Love
ProstituteThe album did not need all 4 of those. It's too much.
In retrospect, that Harley/Better debacle was the sign that things were NOT going to go our way in 2006... I agree.
I think that's a good insight into his state of mind. He was stuck on the same $#%, at least when he was inspired to write, to do anything else. And then the project took too long and it was hard to let anything of that old work go. Maybe. Those songs are definitely part of that "letter to Dylan" thesis.
I think it's a shame 'Better' didn't really have a shot at taking off with the way the album was released. That song in 2006 had serious potential and high crossover appeal. "Oh I like that song" - bystanders who I subjected leaks to unwillingly. Indeed, even the lyrics seemed to take on a spirit of moving into new ground and momentum. It was the perfect re-introduction to the band and Axl.
The Blues, also, had a shot if only it had leaned into that up-tempo version they (accidentally?) performed live. When they added orchestrations and RTB of it all it began a process of taking the life out of the song until it was officially a drag by 2008. In 2001, I thought it could have gotten some of that Train - Drops of Jupiter money.

Who was in charge of the tracks? Was it AXL? or label? If we can see there were better songs to be on Chinese Democracy, why couldn't AXL or the label see it?
Mostly I think Axl's depression/anxiety and then also the fact that he had no leverage with the label to make things happen. Instead of a timely and strange (and sometimes great) album, we got people trying to bluff him into turning in a record with 12 number 1 hits.
Fall, 2000:
Bob Ezrin: Axl, we are not ready to mix this record. This record isn’t ready to be mixed. There are two great songs on it and I know that you’re capable of more, that’s the reason why I’m here. You’re such a great talent and I would do you a disservice if I didn’t tell you the truth, which is that most of the songs aren’t great. But I‘m very happy to help you get there and I believe that it’s possible, if you would like to continue to work on the record, to make it better.'
Axl: I don’t agree with that. We are ready to mix.
Bob Ezrin: You have my number, if you change your mind let me know.
"It was a bummer. Most of the songs that are on the record now were done *years* ago. But all the talking heads in the mix were saying, “Make ’em sound better! Make ’em sound better!” So we kept redoing this and that." - Tommy Stinson
"Every time that we thought that we had the correct songs, somebody from the record company thought that we could make it better." - Axl Rose

We've all been doing that for 20+ years!
Rarely has a more accurate statement been uttered... just sayin'
Like most every other detail surrounding GNR, this leak is just 'weird'.. for a multitude of reasons. I'm a firm believer that the truth surrounding the details will get out there eventually so.. it is what it is.
For the record, I will say this - I f'n love "Monsters" (or wtfever its called...regardless, my sentiment remains)

When do we get our HULU miniseries? They make one for everything nowadays.

They don't even sell new GNR/Chinese themed merch anymore.
Which is a shame. I rather liked some of the circa 2000/2002 merchandise.

In trying to figure out the lyrics, these are missing some of the things we've seen in Axl lyrics - The General is....VCV... or just all chorus, or whatever, but there's no switch up (that I can tell) - lots of Axl's choruses never actually repeated 100%, usually there's a switch up. Like I would have expected a "My only regret" to turn into "I'll never regret" the last time it comes around. There's also no climax moment in the General, typified by The Blues or Prostitute, or like in Monsters when he goes into rant section. General is just oddly...symmetrical.

Daddy don't!
(I swear I won't!)
I'll be good from now on - and I'm awful sorry.
Daddy don’t!
(The hell I won’t!)
I won't be good anymore - and you'll all be sorry.
Can anybody help me with this pain?
It just won't stop!
Can anybody help me?
This pain - it just won't stop!
My only regret
is that I never took the time to forget (forgive???)
all those unspoken feelings
that you’ll never spare. (that we’ll never share???)
And those who understand it
have your respect (have no something??)
and not your sordid meaning. (a new distorted meaning??
Don't know what to tell you now - it's never really what they tell you now.
Don't know what to tell you now - it's not really what they tell you now.
Don't know what to tell you now – it ain’t really what they tell you now.

Edit: I didn't see dave did an attempt! Hmmmm...

It's a silver lining that the locker wasn't full of Ashba and Bumble versions.

DIS.A.GREE.
Silkworms was ruined as 'Absurd'. But then again, I loved My World as a teenager, too.
Hard School / Hard Skool tie for me for best. I like the effect on Axl's vocals on the final Hard Skool release.
He could have sang the fuck out of that live in 2006.

I wouldn't put it past them to put these out.
These are certainly not line out audio rips taken from loose vinyl. So they're either 1.) old and it's from a gentleman collector with a cunning sense of timing, 2.) an insider leak used as a blocking strategy, 3.) a quasi-insider leak from somewhere in the supply chain.
