#31 Guns N' Roses » Rumor: GUNS N' ROSES To Play Intimate Los Angeles Club Show This Frida » 481 weeks ago

GUNS N' ROSES is rumored to be playing an intimate warm-up show this coming Friday, April 1. If it happens, the concert will take place at one of the Los Angeles-area clubs where the band first played prior to the release of its iconic debut album, 1987's "Appetite For Destruction". More information is expected to be revealed by Friday morning, at which point a limited number of tickets will go on sale to the general public.

As previously reported, GUNS N' ROSES will embark on a 21-city North American tour to follow the previously announced run of comeback shows. Exact dates and venue details have not yet been announced.

GUNS N' ROSES has six concerts scheduled so far, all in April: two at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, two in Las Vegas and two in Mexico City.

The exact band lineup has yet to be confirmed beyond singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, although it is almost certain that keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer are on board as well.

Original members Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler didn't appear to be involved in the gigs, but Adler's solo band abruptly canceled a show at the Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles on April 1, with the venue tweeting, "Stay tuned for a big announcement! #GunsNRoses." There is now speculation about a guest appearance by Adler with GUNS.

The last show Axl and Slash played together was on July 17, 1993 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. The latest incarnation of GUNS N' ROSES, which only included Axl from the original lineup, played a residency in Las Vegas in 2014 but has remained silent since.

According to Billboard, the GUNS reunion — which sources say has been in the works for two years — is asking for anywhere from $3 million to $5 million a show.

#32 Guns N' Roses » Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Drummer STEVEN ADLER Cancels Whisky A Go Go Concert; » 483 weeks ago

The previously announced April 1 concert by ADLER, the band led by former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler, at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California has been canceled, according to a tweet from the venue's official Twitter account. The message adds, "Stay tuned for a big announcement! #GunsNRoses"

GUNS N' ROSES has so far announced six headlining performances in April, including two in Las Vegas and two at California's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, with singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan slated to perform together again for the first time in 22 years.

The rest of the band's lineup for the shows — and a potential tour later in the year — remains unclear, although keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer are all believed to be involved.

Fan speculation around the involvement of Adler has been heavy, with some of the bandmembers reportedly not sure whether the drummer, who has a longer history of drug problems than any of the other musicians, can hold it together on the road.

Adler was fired from GUNS N' ROSES in 1990 for his rampant drug use and replaced by Matt Sorum. Fans have wondered whether both drummers would be brought back for a reunion tour.

Adler said last October that he would be the last person to hear about his involvement in a GUNS N' ROSES reunion because Slash couldn't trust him to keep the information secret. "I've known for Slash thirty-what… thirty-nine years, and he knows that I would climb to the [highest] mountain and I would do, as Paul Stanley would say, 'shout it out loud,'" he said.

Adler told VH1 Classic's Eddie Trunk in a separate interview about the possibility of his involvement in a GN'R reunion: "I love those guys, and I always will, but Duff, he doesn't think I'm cool. And Slash, he doesn't believe that I have [two years] sober. He doesn't believe it. I don't know why, but they forget that at one time in their life, they were doing drugs and drinking and they were fucking up. They forget that they were like that too. Duff has got 20 years sober or more, Slash has got, like, 11 or 12 years sober, and I've got [two years]. So everybody gets it at a different time. I'm just thankful I got it."

He expressed frustration that the original GUNS had not reunited, saying, "I don't get it. We just play music. We're living our dream. When we're together, we play it really great. Let's just do it. What's the problem?"

#33 Guns N' Roses » DJ ASHBA: 'It's Hard For Me To Play Other People's Songs' » 483 weeks ago

Casper of Silver Tiger Media recently conducted an interview with former GUNS N' ROSES and current SIXX: A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

Speaking about he approaches soloing, Ashba said: "I've always looked at guitar playing as an extension of the story telling. Basically, it's where the vocalist hands you the song, and it's your job, your duty, to write the perfect solo for that song. I've never looked at guitar solos as, 'Okay, it's my turn to show off.' That's the worst mistake I think guitar players make. I take the song from the singer and I try to take the audience on a journey and bring them right back and hand it back off to the singer. And that's how I look at it when I write solos: I try to write the perfect solo for that song."

He continued: "I'm from the mindstate where I'm all about melody — I want people to walk away singing the solos. And that would mean more to me than, 'Wow, he's really fast on guitar.' That doesn't mean anything to me. You can play a million miles an hour and it's gonna go over everybody's head in the audience. But you hit one note with everything in your heart, and you're gonna turn every head in the room, and I've always believed that."

Ashba also talked about the differences between playing material that he had a hand in writing and performing songs that were composed by someone else. He said: "I'm not a schooled player. In fact, I played in GUNS N' ROSES for seven years, [and it was a challenge playing other] people's songs. I do my best, but I have such a distinct style, and it's hard for me to actually play other people's songs; I actually have to work at it, whereas SIXX: A.M. is my style. It's what [come out of me naturally]; I don't even have to think about what I'm playing, it's just… I feel it. And I can't explain it. Along the way, many people have wanted me to teach 'em how to play guitar, and I can't teach you, because I'm not a teacher."

Ashba, who joined GUNS N' ROSES in March 2009 following the departure of Robin Finck, issued a statement in July 2015 saying that he was leaving the band. His statement read in part: "It is with a very heavy heart and yet great pride that I announce that I've decided to close this chapter of my life and encapsulate the wonderful times that I've shared with GUNS N' ROSES into fond memories. I have reached a point in my life where I feel its time to dedicate myself to my band SIXX: A.M., my adoring wife and family, and to the many new adventures that the future holds for me."

Ashba said earlier in his statement that working with GUNS N' ROSES was "the most incredible journey I could have possibly imagined."

The first volume of SIXX: A.M.'s upcoming double album, "Prayers For The Damned", will drop April 29 via Eleven Seven Music.

#35 Guns N' Roses » SLASH's CONSPIRATORS Bandmate On GUNS N' ROSES Reunion: 'This Thing Is » 484 weeks ago

Slash McKagan
Replies: 0

Todd Kerns, the bassist for Slash's backing band, MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, was interviewed for a recent edition of "Eddie Trunk Podcast". You can now listen to the chat at PodcastOne.com. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

On how he was first told that Slash was reuniting with GUNS N' ROSES:

"One thing I'll say for Slash is he's never been really kind of… I don't think he's really keen on the whole, 'Let's sit down and have a meeting,' that kind of very formal kind of thing. It's more like a… I always use the term 'bros,' and it tend to sound a little douchey, but I mean it like as in like we're friends. Friends as much as friends can be in this crazy, wacky business. But I think that Slash… he had to tell us what was going on. And I can't say how much I appreciate the idea that he actually sort of said, 'Look, this is what's going on, and I just want you guys to know.'"

On whether it was a surprise to find out about the GUNS N' ROSES reunion:

"This was obviously a thing that… It's been an elephant in the room for… I don't know… since '94 [laughs]… whenever Slash left the band. His whole life he's had to answer the question, 'So when is this gonna happen?' And I just think that a number of things kind of led to this, and it's kind of like, 'Fuck it! I'm gonna do this.' You know what I mean?"

On how the GUNS N' ROSES reunion will affect SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS' plans to record a new studio album:

"We already knew we were kind of off for 2016, other than kind of maybe chipping away at… you know, bass and drums here. Even the way we had done 'World On Fire' was very piecemeal. We had done bass and drums and then Slash went off to do guitars on his own. This time, if everything goes according to plan, we will do exactly the same thing; it'll just probably be a little bit more broken up by Slash's schedule, essentially. You know, like anything else, I'm always aware that anything can change, anything can happen.

"We've always had a springtime plan to get into bass and drums recording. And we've already got an album-plus worth of music together.

"I think he's gonna go off and have this great experience and then we're gonna make this record. There's no reason to not make it or whatever other than scheduling getting really crazy, which, let's be honest, could happen, and I'm perfectly okay with that. I'm perfectly okay with just sort of playing it out and see what happens."

On how he personally feels about Slash going back to GUNS N' ROSES:

"I think that this thing, as I had mentioned before, is bigger than all of us. This whole thing is history of rock occurring right under our noses, which is interesting for a guy from my perspective.

"This is something that is important for him to do. GUNS N' ROSES, obviously, it's important for multiple reasons. I think it's an important part of his life that he has to kind of embrace a little bit. I think it's a really great thing for the entire planet, but for the individuals involved, guys like Duff [McKagan, GUNS N' ROSES bassist], who I know and love to death too, I think this is an important part of a return for them."

On the mystery and cloud of uncertainty that is constantly hanging over GUNS N' ROSES:

"Isn't that part of the awesomeness of this situation — the kind of, like, 'Who knows?' The GUNS N' ROSES thing is… When we talk about it, there's, like, five bands in the history of rock that have that kind of a reputation of just completely, who knows what could happen? And I think that that's the beauty of this."

#36 Guns N' Roses » GILBY CLARKE 'It's Gonna Be Interesting To See SLASH And AXL Back Toge » 484 weeks ago

Slash McKagan
Replies: 31

During a brand new interview with "The Rock Show" on Star Radio with Neil Jones, former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke was once again asked for his thoughts on a GN'R reunion, following the recent announcement that long-estranged singer Axl Rose and guitarist Slash had repaired their relationship and were staging a handful of comeback shows in April. Clarke, who was not an original member of the group, said: "You know, I'm probably just as curious as everybody else is. It's gonna be interesting to see Slash and Axl back together after all these years. I mean, I have certainly seen Slash many times; I've seen his solo band, I've seen VELVET REVOLVER. So it's gonna be interesting to see, after that big hiatus, what comes together from this. I'm just like a fan; I'm curious too."

Asked how the members of GUNS N' ROSES dealt with Axl's stage tardiness while Clarke was in the band, the guitarist said: "Well, you know, back then, we drank a lot, and we got drunk a lot. I mean, that's the thing — we didn't know whether it was gonna be five minutes late or three hours late. It's just one of those things that… it came with the territory. We've all got our pluses and minuses with our jobs. The waiting was a minus."

Clarke replaced founding guitarist Izzy Stradlin in the GUNS lineup in 1991, during the "Use Your Illusion" tour, and stayed with the band for three years.

He has continued as a producer and solo artist since then, while also playing in ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA, HEART and other acts.

Clarke reunited with GUNS members Slash, Steven Adler, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan at the band's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in April 14, 2012, although he himself was not inducted as part of the band.

Gilby is currently recording a new solo album that will feature guest appearances by drummers Stephen Perkins (JANE'S ADDICTION) and Matt Starr (ACE FREHLEY) along with members of Clarke's solo band, EJ Curse (bass/vocals) and Troy Patrick Farrell (drums/vocals). Gilby told "The Rock Show" about the upcoming effort: "It's been a long time, and I've kind of been working on this record for, like, about four or five years, which would sound like, 'Oh my God! It's an epic.' It's not. I just… I can't put a record out unless I think it's good. And I've been writing tunes and I've been recording a lot, but I just honestly didn't think it was good. And up until this year, I've really got a good batch of songs. And after these next few weeks, the shows for us, we're taking a few months off because I wanna finish this record. I wanna get it out by the end of the year."

Regarding the musical direction of his upcoming CD, Gilby said: "I still like… I guess it's now called classic rock. I like rock and roll, man. I like THE BEATLES. I like THE [ROLLING] STONES. I like METALLICA. I like the RAMONES. To me, it's all just rock and roll. As long as it's an electric guitar and the Marshall's on 10, I'm a pretty happy guy."

#37 Guns N' Roses » Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist RON 'BUMBLEFOOT' THAL Wishes His Former Ban » 485 weeks ago

Slash McKagan
Replies: 7

Ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal says that he had "a lot of fun" playing in the Axl Rose-fronted group and wishes his former bandmates "well."

Just days after guitarist DJ Ashba quit GUNS N' ROSES last July, a source confirmed to Detroit music writer Gary Graff that Thal was also no longer a member of the group — and had been out since the end of GN'R's second Las Vegas residency in 2014.

During an interview conducted on last month's Axes & Anchors cruise, Thal briefly commented on his time with GUNS N' ROSES, saying (see video below): "It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of everything, but that's life. It's supposed to be. You know, if you're having a lot of everything, then you're really living it, and that's what it's about. It's all good. I wish them well. I wish 'em all well. I do."

Thal joined GUNS N' ROSES in early 2006 as the replacement for Buckethead.

Thal expressed frustration in 2013 with the lack of new music from GUNS, saying, "If something came out at this point, it would be very old material that is just being released now… We need to make an album of this band right now." The last new GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy", came out in 2008.

The reunited GUNS N' ROSES — featuring Axl Rose alongside guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan — has six shows scheduled so far, all in April: two at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, two in Las Vegas and two in Mexico City.

The rest of the band's lineup for the shows — and a potential tour later in the year — remains unclear, although keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus, keyboard player Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer are all believed to be involved.

#38 Guns N' Roses » SLASH Gets New GUNS N' ROSES Guitar Pick (Photo) » 485 weeks ago

Dunlop has created new Tortex guitar picks for Slash that the guitarist will presumably use during GUNS N' ROSES' upcoming tour. The new pick, which can be seen below, features GUNS N' ROSES' "bullet" logo, which is synonymous with the band's classic lineup.

GUNS N' ROSES has six shows scheduled so far, all in April: two at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, two in Las Vegas and two in Mexico City. The exact band lineup has yet to be confirmed.

A new Twitter account purportedly belonging to former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin appeared late last month on the social media site. In one of his tweets, Izzy said that he has "no involvement in the upcoming April 2016 GNR shows."

It's been speculated that Stradlin would have some limited involvement — such as a guest appearance — at some of the upcoming GUNS N' ROSES reunion concerts, which currently feature Slash, Axl Rose and Duff McKagan.

The rest of the band's lineup for the shows — and a potential tour later in the year — remains unclear, although keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus, keyboard player Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer are all believed to be involved.

Fan speculation around the involvement of original drummer Steven Adler has been heavy, with the bandmembers not sure whether Adler, who has a longer history of drug problems than any of the other members, can hold it together on the road.

#39 Guns N' Roses » Did IZZY STRADLIN Join TWITTER And Say Something About GUNS N' ROSES? » 486 weeks ago

A new Twitter account purportedly belonging to former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin has appeared on the social media site, according to The Pulse Of Radio. Two sources have apparently confirmed to The Wall Street Journal reporter Neil Shah that the account is real, with Stradlin himself — or the person behind the account claiming to be Stradlin — tweeting a video of himself playing guitar.

But more importantly, the first tweet from the @IzzyStradlin999 account on February 22nd read, "At this point in time, I've no involvement in the upcoming April 2016 GNR shows."

It's been speculated that Stradlin would have some limited involvement — such as a guest appearance — at some of the upcoming GUNS N' ROSES reunion shows, which currently feature original members Slash, Axl Rose and Duff McKagan.

Fans online have offered "proof" both for and against the account actually belonging to Stradlin.

Evidence of the former includes a never-before-seen selfie of the guitarist, the aforementioned video, reported private correspondence between Stradlin and several friends and a few others on Twitter claiming it's definitely him.

Alleged evidence that the Stradlin account is not real includes some strange and now-deleted tweets, music sites not running his GUNS N' ROSES news despite being tweeted at directly by the owner of the account, and the fact that no one from GUNS N' ROSES has started following him or vice versa.

GUNS N' ROSES has six shows scheduled so far, all in April: two at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, two in Las Vegas and two in Mexico City. The exact band lineup has yet to be confirmed.

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba says that he was "treated like gold" by the band's lead singer, Axl Rose, during his six-year stint with the group.

djashbagusnrosesguitarup_638.jpg

During an appearance on the SiriusXM show "Dirty Sexy Funny" with host Jenny McCarthy, Ashba was asked how difficult it was dealing with Axl on a scale of 1 to "Kanye West," with "Kanye" signifying the most difficult a person can be, Ashba said: "It got difficult here and there. I mean, he's definitely a unique character."

He added: "You know what? I had the best time of my life doing it. I'm grateful. But he's the kind of guy that he has a very tight-knit circle, and I was fortunate enough to be a part of that tight-knit circle. And he's always treated me like gold. So, as far as what I can say, I have not a bad word to say. Although I do know if you cross him, he can turn more into the Kanye side of things."

Ashba added: "I want to take a moment to thank Axl from the bottom of my heart for not only the most incredible experience of my life, but for truly believing in me. You are a true friend and a champion of mine and I am forever grateful. And even as I move on to pursue other endeavors, I will always remain one of your biggest fans. I also would like to thank each and every one of you fans for your love and support throughout the years."

Ashba said earlier in his statement that working with GUNS N' ROSES was "the most incredible journey I could have possibly imagined."
