the better sample sounds really good. i absolutely cannot wait to hear the final version of this in full. i was hoping for some grittier vocals on irs, but no luck. everything sounds really good though...at least judging by those samples. i was amazed by how the samples answered a lot of my questions about how the final product would sound.
#32 Re: Guns N' Roses » How much do you/have you listened to the CD leaks? » 882 weeks ago
yeah i've listened to all of them a ton, but i'm trying really hard not to listen to them much before the release (or at least a full leak).

2 points...first i believe the argument was that rock songs don't get airplay on pop radio as much as they did back in the late 80's. the argument was not that rock songs are never pop hits. it still happens, just not as often.
second, it is a big deal that chi dem is a rock radio smash. it does not matter who you are, having a hit single is a big deal. people don't expect gnr to have a pop hit. they expect them to have a rock hit...and they do. will that translate into album sales? who knows? only time will tell. the only thing we can gauge right now is the single and that is doing quite well.

here's an update on the billboard chart...chinese democracy has moved up to #5 on the mainstream rock chart. top 5 single!

yeah i would say my favorite is either prostitute or there was a time. right now i'm leaning toward prostitute though. i can't believe some folks don't like it. i think it could be a mega hit for gnr.

it does raise an interesting question though about whether these are in fact final versions. i personally think they are, but it seems possible that they aren't. baz's comments create a lingering doubt.

great review. i had a feeling that rolling stone would actually give the record a chance and not get sucked into all the negative hype. kudos to them. i cannot wait for this record to come out!

i am the last person that's gonna bash VR. i like both of their records. But I do think that it is evident by listening to them that the old GNR members in that band wanted to stick to a particular sound that was more basic (and i mean that in the best possible way). it has been no secret that axl had other expectations for the band and that's clear when listening to the new tracks. there is an effort to be grand. whether these songs reflect that effort and reach those expectations is another topic for debate. i think both of these types of musical expressions have their place, but obviously that place wasn't in the same band.
