There's not alot more I can say really, apart from the show was totally awesome, and the whole band Rose (no pun intended) way above any expectations I ever had. I personally feel that Axl was on fire

this was my 4th time seeing them since '02 & it was easily the best i've heard axl, probably the best i've ever heard him - live era or bootlegs or tokyo. he really blew me away.
i knew the band would be tight but they have put right a long of dodgy moments they had on the asian tour last christmas. they raised their game & showmanship to try and match axl.
but the guy really gave the kind of performance that you would have hoped for if there wasn't so much shit flying around. if he played & sang, or could play & sing, like that every gig there'd be no complaints about anything. he was really masterful - his voice, timing & his stage presence were at the highest i'd seen them & they didn't drop once. he was great on every single song & just got better & better (which was the song of the night, just about IMO - sorry, til & nov rain pretty close) with each song. even PC was more resplendant that i'd ever experienced or would have dared hope - usually by that stage the voice is shot but in belfast it held perfectly.

honestly, i was blown away by them. any reservations i had about the setlist forget about it (tho i did take a piss/bar break on dizzy/the blues). probably the best GnR experience i've ever had, be that just listenin to their records or seeing them live.

then the following night is probably the worst GnR experience i've ever had.
we can never just have good times with this band. or i can't at least.
but for all the shit, i'll always cherish that belfast gig & it'll be further proof to me & my friends/relations that y'know, axl really can be an exceptionally brilliant performer. & he can be an exceptional performer for less honourable reasons also.

edit: great vid's & pics man! hope a full boot surfaces 'cause it's one of the best GnR gigs this year i reckon..

From my point of view after the band came back on the seats filled back up and it seemed to me there was more people in the arena than what was at the beginning.

haha, u musta been so pissed u were seeing double.

i didn't go back in but there was a fuckload of people left when i left & left before me. thousands. people started pouring out as soon as the bandwalked off. i waited til houselights came on.
there was still plenty there when i was leaving but there was also plenty of people on their way home.

funny i also found it quite easy to get to the front of the stage. i didn't get to the venue til 9:55 (cause i'd known they came on around that time in belfast & i'd planned to head in around sorry/til). but i got a couple of pints & tried to get one of those irish "gnr rocked ireland - i was there" shirts but thankfully they had sold out(!) & pretty much sauntered up to about the 4th or 5th row. if i'd have gotten closer i probably woulda stayed to see the whole thing but because it was so easy to leave (there was nobody behind me except for some lads trying to scheme a riot) i just thought fuck it i could sleep in my own bed tonight rather than deal with that pish..

What was said on the radio? I missed this

she said after the walkout at the 4tus solo she was walking by one of the gates where you could see into where the tour bus was parked.
she saw axl there & he was cursing the crowd for throwing things & leaving. she said he was then squatting down with his head in his hands looking like he was really freaking out trying to hold it together.

There were a lot of scummy fuckers who were only there to start trouble last night.

i'll agree with that.

he seemed actually sad

the weirdest thing is after it on my walk back to the hotel i kinda started feeling sorry for axl.
if what that woman on the radio said was true about him freaking out in the car park, and i think it probably is, you gotta wonder about how healthy his mind is. in belfast the night before i didn't think he could deliver such a soulful performance any more & was genuinely thrilled to see him in such brilliant & honest form.
then last night it was the flipside, the pissed-off brat who can't grow up.
i thought from the moment he came out he looked like really uncomfortable, awkward & didn't want to be there. the bottle throwing gave him an excuse.
we all get angry & pissed off but when he does it his actions have consequences beyond what he can control.
it is a bit of a shitstorm in his head i'm sure.
but he doesn't seem capable of seeing things from other people's point of view, he doesn't seem to be capable of seeing that maybe he is wrong from time to time.

#3475 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stinson Vents at Del James During Dublin Concert » 842 weeks ago

people wouldn't wait til half 1 over here save for a handful of diehards, which is what happened last night.

BUT all evening long, even in the bars, people were talking about the leeds/reading gig & getting their facts & stories completely wrong & OTT & very few even realised they'd played belfast the night previously & if they did they'd heard horror stories of late starts & walkoffs.
there was so much bullshit speculation in the audience but then axl's behaviour just validated those rumours & lies by actually living up to those bad expectations instead of coming out and winning people over.
& it is unfair for people who had to work the next morning. spending 70euro on a ticket & getting 5 songs before being told to go home. i think like me, a lot of them were happy to be put out of their misery. it was just a shitty move to go back on & take away a chance of a refund.

now going back on MAY have been to quell the audience, a lot of whom were talking to me while we waited for the houselights about a riot or storming the stage. but by the time the houselights came on there were so few people left & not many cared enough & those that did care were on axl's side, there was really no real threat especially the amount of security that were actually there (tho doing nothing). it seems most likely they went back on to get paid/prevent a lawsuit/refunds rather than for the good of the fans or because they wanted to.

Did you see Axl appear at the side of the stage looking rather dishevelled when CD started?

Thats the fog of war, theres no doubt a moment where noone knows what the hell is going on.
But really c'mon, all this shit is so easily prevented, and he just never ever learns. He, the band, the crew have all fucking day to prepare. There is no excuses for such amaturish calamities night after night.
Start taking some fuckin pride in your work for god sake.

i didn't see him. i was over at bumbles side of the stage. bumble was out on stage with his guitar techs while they were setting up the stage i tried to ask him what was going on but he just smiled & gave me a thumbs up.
whenever axl did come out for CD i have to say he seemed to just appear from nowhere. one second there was nothing then as if by magic he just appeared, i thought his entrance was pretty cool.

but to me it seemed pretty clear what was going on after the house lights went up. and the decent thing to do when you call off the gig is to have the balls to go thru with it so the FANS can get their money back if they're not going to get their moneys worth.
it seemed pretty set in stone the evening was over after the houselights went on but in hindsight i should've waited for an announcement from the stage rather than some lackey. but how long should i have to wait as well, y'know? i was back in belfast just as they were finishing the set so..

there is no excuse. it was an overreaction from axl to a handful of idiots.& they wouldn't have been such idiots if he'd not been so arrogant & lacklustre in his performance & time keeping.

i did notice bumbles reaction after the walkoff but i couldn't really tell anything from it. he just threw his hands up in the air dispairingly. in fairness to bumble a lot of shit was getting thrown at him especially from that side of the stage (and a good few we want slash chants) so he'd have more reason than enough to be pissed with the crowd..

But they're quite entitled to, the rock n roll spirit in full effect, eh Richard?

i thought that was quite good fun. i didn't take it like slashba being a dick, i thought it was a good give & go between the audience & band & thought the crowd for the most part were having a bit of craic with the band, it was only when the band took it thick that things got really sad.

tbh i think a lot of responsibility lies with MCD - security for one was a joke. one security guard came over to an idiot who was throwing bottles behind me & said to him "i saw you, i saw you throw that bottle. next time you do that you're out." why not just throw him out in the first place?
i wasn't searched at all on the way in.

anyway they're taking no responsibility for it, despite their employees telling me the gig was over & to go home:

Statement issued by Promoters MCD & the management of The O2 regarding the Guns N' Roses concert at The 02, Dublin, Wednesday 1st September 2010.

Despite every effort being made by promoters to ensure Guns N' Roses would go on stage on time, they went on at 22.26hrs having been due to be on stage at 21.45hrs, support artist finished at 21:00hrs.

During the second song Axl requested members of crowd who were throwing plastic glass's containing unknown substances to immediately stop or he would have no option but to leave the stage. He confirmed band's wish to perform stating "we want to stay..one more bottle and we go home". Despite his continued appeals, having tried to continue performing for 22 minutes,
people continued throwing unknown substances leaving artist with no choice but to leave the stage.

From the stage MCD Promoter Denis Desmond again appealed to audience to refrain from throwing items and stated that the band would be back on stage shortly.

The artist was prevented from leaving the venue by the Promoter and following backstage discussions Guns N' Roses went back on stage at 23.20 hrs and performed their full set until 00.53 hrs.

While the artist has a long history for being late on stage (Slane 1992 - crowd waiting 2 hours and last weekend's UK Reading festival), NO artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them. However, despite this the band went back on stage after people stopped throwing items performing their full set of songs in full.

MCD and The 02 wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to late running of the show.

I left after Sorry and the band walkout. People throwing bottles is not cool, at all. You know what else isn't cool?

1) Keeping the audience waiting until 10:30pm in a venue with an 11:30pm license, just days after the show was stopped at Reading because they started late and broke the curfew. It's understandable that the audience who paid €80 a ticket would be worried that the same thing would happen again.

2) On which subject… every other band on the face of the planet is able to come out and play in a timely fashion. Why not GN'R? Half of the gigs on this tour have started late, and Axl's offered a Completely Reasonable Explanation in each case; that's a lot of Completely Reasonable Explanations, though. Coupled with Axl's own admission that he's a night owl and an alternative explanation does seem to offer itself. There is clearly a problem somewhere, a failure in the chain of command between management, the venues/promoters and the band. This needs to be fixed. NOW.

3) I appreciate that Axl hasn't had to hold down a 9-to-5 job since, what, 1985? While we'd love to stick it to the Man like rockstars, the sad fact of the matter that he just doesn't seem to have grasped is that if we turn up late to work in the morning because of his gig overrunning, WE GET FIRED.

3) Those people chucking bottles? They were at the front. While I don't condone their actions, these are the people who paid €80 a ticket, hiked the mile out of town to the venue, stood in line for hours to get a place at the front, stood there for hours with only the O2's shite overpriced beer to drink and then faced the very real prospect that the show might have been cut short by the venue's license. Yeah, I can see why they might be aggrieved, even if their way of expressing it wasn't on. But they weren't the only angry people in the crowd; from where I was standing the chorus of boos was deafening. Which leads neatly on to…

4) Completely misjudging the mood of the crowd. When DJ was teasing out the opening notes of WTTJ, the crowd were booing. And he carried on trying to milk it like a mug. Ya know what? People who've been waiting for that long just want the band to get on with it. Oh, and when the crowd was angry, rather than try to harness that energy with something like YCBM or Shackler's, they… played Sorry. A slow song, whose lyrics could very easily be interpreted as an almighty Fuck You to the paying audience.

5) Speaking of which… Sending a roadie out to dust Dizzy's piano while the crowd's waiting will not win you any friends among the crowd.

For my own part, I bought a ticket on Seatwave for £130, then paid to travel to Ireland, spending about a third of my monthly wages after paying my rent. Oh, and then struggled out of bed to go to the gig after having the flu for two days. It's fair to say I did everything a fan could possibly do to support this band, and I've been royally shafted.

fantastic post. absolutely fucked up. there are genuine fans who get shit on 'cause of 3 or 4 idiots throwin shit & head honcho idiot axl.
i was surprised at how many people were heading to work the next morning - at both shows. would axl never ever try & put himself in the punter's shoes? his problems n ego are just that much bigger than everyone elses.. it must be such a drag trying to get 13,000 people off who want to see you, somehow the guy manages to fuck that up. regularly.

what a load of balls. what about the fans who dropped loadsa money on this just to be ripped off by a bunch of fuckin pussys.
instead of spending money on a ticket/hotel/petrol/food & drink i'd have had a good a time if i'd taken that money & flushed it down the toilet.
who's gonna stick up for the fans in this band?
family?? at least they got fuckin paid..
