something is amiss in the GN'R world right now.

a few things are. this being one i'd imagine:

road manager Del James

who is in control of this band? who is booking shows? is it lawyers & del or what? beta?
who did manage to book this tour? it seems like a good idea & good schedule (if a bit criss-crossy around europe, but that's the way they always are) but if axl didn't do it & doc didn't do it & irving didn't do it who is or has been in charge?
i'm for all it's the audience's fault at dublin. BUT axl's been the #1 guy in GnR for 20years & he should have structures & reliable people in place to avoid such bad PR & fuck-ups as happened in dublin & last weekend & as have littered the GnR world... since axl became the #1 guy in GnR. he hasn't these structures in place because he seems not to be able to trust anyone for longer than 5 mins that isn't del or beta..

they just covered this on the main evening news (rte). it was only a short article without any real bias. the only questionable moment was when they interviewed a fan today & he claimed about "2/3 of the audience left" when the lights went up. which is, as we know from IO's pics, bullshit. bar that it was the youtube footage & a report, nothing exclusive.

people remember that video too. but a lot of them remember it for how stupid it is.
anyway there's another thread for bashing del - which is something we really need to do, the controversy over dublin has overshadowed his supposed role as "tour manager" which is something that should be discussed a lot more than has been.

and again anyway, tho the guy who wrote that twitter is an idiot, it really was a stunning & brilliant concert that hugely surprised me & i can understand why he's tripping up over himself 'cause we've faced pretty much a wall of crap being talked about GnR this last week & those two hours in belfast were everything opposite all the bullshit & nonsense that's went down.

#3464 Re: Guns N' Roses » Belfast, Northren Ireland - August 31, 2010 (Odyssey Arena) » 842 weeks ago

the attendance for this was 9,000.
i was talkin to a gay tshirt vendor & he had all the bitchy gossip - he was ranting to me about the late starts & said, "well he (axl) is getting 16quid out of every ticket sold & with 9000 tickets sold y'know he doesn't really mind what time it starts. "

They're doing well with the tickets though. People love a good controversy.

I was just thinking that's why the the shows have been selling because people are actually talking about GNR. Imagine that.

this is definitely a delibeate tactic on GnR's part.
there's 3/4 weeks til they return to the UK. dunno what the press is like on the mainland but i imagine things may quiet down & become more stable than these first 4 shows. i expect more belfast type shows rather than reading/dublin until they get back to the UK..

those guys run around alot...danger of the band slipping and falling, twisting/breaking an ankle, damaging equipment....

definitely even 1 missile thrown is too many. but the security could easily have handled things & axl/gnr could handled it better than storming off - tho they prob were correct in doing so..

Its getting to the stage where people are in real danger of being hurt.

fwiw i didn't think the amount of bottles being thrown (& their accuracy) got to the stage of people being hurt or injured. the situation only really escalated to dangerous proportions after the walkoff when some idiots were contemplating a riot. but then again i wasn't on the receiving end. it didn't seem anywhere near as bad as donnington '06..

Problem right now is GNR are in the spotlight due to Reading, the media is watching out, waiting to be outraged by GNR's next late start. So therefore the start time is under the microscope even more by those at the gig. I'm not a big fan of the late starts but to be honest a 10.26 start really isn't all that bad and I wonder if the reaction last night wasn't all the worse for the shit storm in the media surrounding GNR over the weekend.

it definitely was. it was all people were talking about before the gig, except for if slash was in the band or not(!). & it was so full of shit, it was all "i heard this..." & then "well, i heard..." & it was like a competition to see who knew the most ridiculous sory about leeds/reading. & of course that inevitably leads to people saying "well if he does that here..."
me i thought it was funny at the time because it's so typical. & i genuinely didn't think the bottle situation wasn't exactly THAT bad.. but there you go.

I've been to shows where there's not an angry face in the crowd and still bottles/cups get thrown around. I think for the most part it's done by dickheads who think they're being funny, trying to impress their mates or get some attention. Stupid and potentially dangerous yes but not necessarily in malice or anger at the performer.

there definitely was some of this - some yahoo's thinking they were having 'the craic'.

but there was undoubtedly some people doing it thru malicious intent. the butch lesbo who was standing behind me was really really spiteful & bitter & was throwing anything she could find @ RON of all people. i told her to fuck off he was a cool guy but she just told me to fuck off and went on looking for things to throw. he's not slash people kept reminding me, and anyone else within earshot. ron just moved centrestage and never came back over.
