But I think he's crossed a line this time. Not many people are on his side in the one and for the first time in awhile, fans are in a way rallying around the band. As much as people want to complain about their "mis"treatment of the fans over the years, not even they deserve this.
Well now, that's a real double edged sword for me. Please don't misunderstand, I in NO WAY think what this guy is doing is right. BUT (and I've said this a ton) if GNR did anything like a normal band does, the door wouldn't be open for this type of stuff to occur.
Who defines what is normal though? Obviously the GNR situation is unlike any that there's ever been and it certainly hasn't been all that fan friendly over the years, but I don't agree with the line of thinking that they brought this upon themselves. Lots of bands have done things to piss fans off but I don't see Van Halen fans hacking band members e-mail accounts and demanding Michael Anthony be allowed back in the band. Velvet Revolver fans aren't making similar demands that they find a lead singer. How about Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin re-uniting. Don't those fans deserve that?
NO! You get what you get. If Axl and GNR want to work at a snails pace. If they want to treat their fans in what some view as negative, that's their choice. And it's our choice to accept it or say F off! It's not our right to go and steal top secret information from them and distribute it accordingly. I don't care how badly you think GNR is run. Things have gotten way out of hand somewhere along the line and it needs to stop or this band will have absolutely no chance at returning to any bit of normalcy. The divide between band and fans will just get further and further apart. This latest stunt is certainly not a step in the right direction.
things got out of hand as soon as SCOM hit MTV 24/7. that's when the crazies signed up & have never let got. there is no normalcy in a band like GNR.
but it is true that GNR & Axl inspire a different blend of crazies than say the likes of MJ/U2/The Stones do. it goes hand in hand with the digital age, but the lack of malacious behaviour in the U2 or REM fanbase than you see GNR 'fans'/traders exhibit reflects the behaviour & thoughtlessness of the people who have ran GNR for the past 20yrs.
it really wouldn't be that hard to undermine guys like MSL. if GNR & Axl behaved in a more pleasant & honest manner, especially towards their fanbase, people wouldn't be going out of their way to undermine the band via leaks. had there not been a continual history of unnecessary insults & broken promises (there have been broken promises) people wouldn't be out 2 get them.
now it's not particularly pleasant behaviour delving into people's private correspondence & business but you guys are kidding yourselves if you don't see how GNR's behaviour isn't a root cause for the likes of MSL to exist. like i said, do you think bands like REM or U2 have an internet community which makes celebrities of guys like MSL?!
lot's of bands have done stuff to piss off their fans. but few are as vulnerable, bizarre & legendary as GNR.
i defo can understand people not caring about this stuff, esp outside the fanbase.
but i for one am hoping for the documents to fill in a lot of the blanks in the CD clusterfuck story. i just think it's one of the most fun stories in rock n roll history n any more facts that come to light can really only help in understanding how it all went so crazy.
(oddly i'm not that excited by hearing new songs. i never cared much for the studio leaks of the CD tracks & generally avoided/rarely listened to them. i prob would d/l them this time tho as that time it was still the novelty of going & buying/experiencing a new GNR album that kept me away from the leaks.)
tho i am coming round to the idea that the guy is full of shit.

Just been thinking about this more.
Bumblefoot made it clear from interviews recently that plans existed for Feb 2011 - and that it was looking like they might fall through.
So now MSL (who is a self admitted con-man when it comes to this stuff anyway) claims to have a bunch of confidential info relating to the Feb plans and says if GNR don't announce their plans he will?
Meanwhile he's also offering around private emails and documets to parties that may have legal actions against the band.
These are actions that threaten potentially millions of dollars worth of investment, and could well bring down the band entirely, or at least cause the kind of silence we hate as he completely derails any chance of a new album cycle, us tour, and increases the odds of the band getting bogged down in more litigation.
Frankly, what gives him the right?
I want new music just as much as the rest of you. But the fact that we've supported the band through the waits, through line up changes, and held on even when Axl ran things his own unusual way, does not in and of itself entitle us to jack shit really.
We're fans...we have an interest in the band and want future activities to enjoy our interest - so of course we want tours and new music - but when people do stuff that fucks up the band like this will - it's crossing a line and just unacceptable to me.
I know everyone thinks they deserve everything, and that the band has it comming or whatever, but to me at the end of the day, the sad reality is the the music is Axls, the band is his livelyhood and his business to run however he chooses - and it's not MSL's call how 2011 plays itself out. Sorry to be an axlite or whatever...but that's just the facts as I see them.
Hey we all like the drama, and I guess maybe underneth the attention seeking self promotion and damn near pathalogical need for gameplaying and cons that MSL and others persist with, perhaps they're really fans of the band too...but in that case I really don't understand why he's initiating an action that will do nothing but cause harm.
it doesn't entitle nobody to nothing, and i believe most people are motivated by other emotions as to why they seek out this shit..
BUT GnR & Axl bring this behaviour upon themselves by the manner in which they conduct their bizness. their behaviour breeds these conspirators. now i'm not saying MSL is right, but i'm saying if GnR & Axl ran things different these embarrassing moments of dirty washing being shown in public would cease. it's not like they haven't been given enough warnings - even from MSL before.
the preposterous secrecy & paranoid dementia & the intractable history of the organization all result in a private world people want to laugh at or get a peek at.
if things were run like the thousands of other successful major label artists there would be no need for the climate which inspires people like MSL in the first place.
(but it'd be a lot more boring)

i dunno.. the 'mister' in that chatroom was pretty vague tbh.. weird he wouldn't go on webcam to verify hisself yet was willing to post a clip??
#3314 Re: Guns N' Roses » 101 Document Titles From Axls Laptop (No Actual Documents Tho) » 821 weeks ago
Edit: Listened to the clip again... reminds me of Metallica's "S&M" album.
GnR defo need 2 do a gig with an orchestra. i've said it a bunch o' times i know but how cool would it have been 2 see finck bust his TiL solo w/an orchestra live?!
maybe someday yet..
#3315 Re: Guns N' Roses » 101 Document Titles From Axls Laptop (No Actual Documents Tho) » 821 weeks ago
it DOES sound quite ChiDem-y.. could well be legit.. dunno why the guy just doesn't go on webcam in the chat tho it'd be easier than posting 4 second clips of songs..
#3316 Re: Guns N' Roses » 101 Document Titles From Axls Laptop (No Actual Documents Tho) » 821 weeks ago
i think MSL was prob joking about the autobiography & about some of the backpay shit..
but i would like to see what axl's idea of what's going on exactly is. probably just an incoherent longwinded epistole of everyone who has wronged him.. maybe i don't want to see it actually..
#3317 Re: The Sunset Strip » PEARL JAM Bassist Calls Band Documentary 'Really Painful' - Jan. 24, 2 » 821 weeks ago
i can see why a pearl jam film would be painful. especially made by dorkus malorkus cameron crowe. wasn't eddie n the band in singles??
why nah just stick 2 the concert/live videos??
#3318 Re: Guns N' Roses » 101 Document Titles From Axls Laptop (No Actual Documents Tho) » 821 weeks ago
fun stuff.
hope MSL is serious about that axl auto-biography. doubt it tho.
if it is legit that he's got this stuff it's only what the GnR brand/organisation/Axl deserve for the ridiculous way in which they run their bizness and the addiction to ultra-secrecy which only encourages such clandestine behaviour that MSL is party to.
but it is funny. roll on feb 2nd..
#3319 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL ROSE Makes GQ's Worst-Dressed List - Jan. 20, 2011 » 821 weeks ago
this list is why the US tour got cancelled.
axl got so upset he refuses to perform or be seen publicly in the US. everything has been put on hold, which wasn't already 'officially' on hold.
axl likes to think of himself as somewhat of a fashion-conscious glitterati who has been accepted by the fashion community and feels this is a slap in the face by an industry and media he'd felt relatively secure with. when he read about the list he freaked out with one of his typical tatrums and has since locked himself off from all band mates and associates.
let's hope he writes a song about it.
and then never releases it.
