Before i launch into discussion i'd first like to say i love the leaks, all of them basically, except 'if the world'. i cannot commend Axl enough for having the balls to move forward in the manner in which he did.

i was thinking to myself about the links and the musical direction the leaks have taken and a thought struck me.

as i thought of the many arguments i use to rebuke anti-axl illiterate idiots on youtube etc. i realised that the basis of many of my arguments is that Axl is not attempting to recreate blues-based hardrock, hes moving forward whether it be through the use of industrial sounds or anything else, and that is a good thing(which i think it is) however what would happen if he did? i don't mean totally replicate it, eg.motley crue, which would only serve to portray him as a pathetic washed up 80's rocker. what i mean is transform and evolve the type of music that made him and GNR famous. Axl has surrounded himself with some of the best musicians available in the 21st century, there is no reason he could not accomplish this feat. keep in mind, i am not saying he should, i am just putting the concept forward so others may discuss it with me. try to imagine a 21st century hard rocker in the style of welcome to the jungle or nightrain, i tried to avoid saying it but, SCOM. i think 'catcher in the rye is the closest thing to this so far, it feels to me like an updated version of november rain or don't cry, and in my opinion, both musically and lyrically, catcher is the best of the leaks.

i also acknowledge that we have heard a small sample of the alleged 30+ songs that Axl and the new band have recorded, but i couldn't help but ask what if? what if Axl stayed, even a little, closer to the roots of GNR, to evolve and develop that classic sound? i'd say we may have heard(are yet to hear?) more catcher in the rye-esq songs which, in my opinion, would be a better move on Axl's part.

The chorus itself is not good at all. It's bland, uninspired, messy and noisy. It's usually the other way around, but when the chorus comes on I start looking forward to the next verse. This is easily the weakest part of the song and kills it for me.

he was asking for it!!

ok sorry but that alone just got me pissed.

your post is fundamentally flawed and contrived.

How about instead of talking shit to the guy and running your mouth, U TELL HIM WHY he is wrong? I don't necessarily agree with all of his review but its at least honest and how he feels.

Id rather someone post something I disagree with then have some person just talk shit without having any sort of addition to the conversation.

hes reviewing a song, i am reviewing his review, if he didn't want someone critiquing it then he shouldn't have posted it.

I know it's a little late 'n all, but I'm gonna write down a more detailed review of the song, as I see it.

The intro (if you ignore the ridiculous distorted chord bashing the first two seconds) is amazing, signature buckethead. My only gripe with it might be that's it's very reminiscent in style of a lot of Bucket's stuff, but that's not really relevant to the general public anyway.

Then, when the verse kicks in, and Axl starts singing in that low, low voice. That is one of the highpoints of the song for me. The vocals are amazing in this one, the timing is perfect and the lyrics (although possibly overly simple) fit the song.

The pre-chorus is ok, but not great. Too Zombie-esque in the rhythm department and the riffs and fills over the B-chord are too uninspired to elevate it to great heights. But overall, I still like this part. The transition from the verse is too abrupt though.

The chorus itself is not good at all. It's bland, uninspired, messy and noisy. It's usually the other way around, but when the chorus comes on I start looking forward to the next verse. This is easily the weakest part of the song and kills it for me.

The solo, well... I don't like it, but I think there are some cool ideas in there. I usually don't mind the "sound-effect" style segments in a solo, but this one overdoes it a little bit. I miss coherence, and most of all melody.

The guitar sounds are not my cup of tea, except for the bucket interludes. I love the smoothness of his sound. Very well rounded (as it usually is).

So all-in-all this song is the best Rocker we've had from these guys so far (possibly followed by CD). Still some way under my own personal expectations. Overall, if this was the first song I've heard from these guys, I wouldn't be disappointed as it seems as if it is a good start and leaves room for the band to grow.

Sadly, this obviously isn't true. Bucket (a major driving factor behind this song) is gone, and we've heard a bunch of other (in my opinion lesser) songs before this one.

I'm still waiting for that ace up Axl's sleeve.

your review is fundamentally flawed and contrived, it is trying so tragically to sound pretentious but even fails at doing that, your opinion is invalid and you should apologise. the amount of buckethead dick riding is so palpable that if you lean in you can almost hear it. the whole thing was a vain attempt at pseudo-intelligence. in the future try to intertwine and disguise your unrequited love for anything buckethead produces, rather than allow it to dictate your review. after reading half of it became exceedingly obvious that the review was nothing more than a love letter dedicated to buckethead.

Dude I understand your point that you feel betrayed as a fan given your clearly a big supporter of the new music - but please - there's no need to feel the need to knock Slash to do it. Slash is recgonised the world over as an iconic and important guitarist in the history of rock music and blues-rock - so people who idolise him and are fans of AFD should not be called idiots.

Myself I'm a MASSIVE fan of both Slash's guitar playing skills - in and out of GNR - and Also Axl's musical abilities - both as a songwriter, frontman, vocalist and lyricist. So I don't feel the need to bash one side because I love the other - I love them both.

Anyway. As far as Axl and Beta - as with any form of relationship - it's hard to know what goes on in it from the outside. It's obvious that Axl cares for her deeply, and I would guess that she has probably provided a lot of emotional support to him - support that he may not have been able to get from blood relatives and other friends. Likewise - it's clear that Axl himself, as with many geniuses has a personality that is not easily understood or simplistic to deal with. Of course with people of wealth and emotional vunerablitiy there is always the risk that they will be taken advantage of. At the end of the day its going to be Axl's call i guess - if he gets enough out of it to justify whatever he puts in himself.

I can also understand why Beta would get pissed off. I mean she knows Axl as a man - a human - you know - a friend around the house - and we all know people on the net like to talk a lot of shit about him. Some deserved maybe, but a hell of a lot of it not so much too. I know my back would get up if people insulted my close friends and family as casually as many rock fans insult their idols.

What this says to me is that the band needs to hire "professionals" to deal with the fan base. People who are not emotionally invested (like Axl and Beta) in the band and so will not be personally hurt during normal interactions with the community.

i am sorry i didn't clarify the 'slash loving idiots' comment further, i myself am an avid slash fan, i admire the mans musical work as do i respect how he represents himself as a human being. what i meant was the stereotypical leak bashing dickhead on youtube or any other message board has an argument that consists of two cookie cutter arguments; "lol without slash GNR is ruined, it stopped being GNR the moment slash left, OMG WHERE IS SLASH TIS SUXXORZ" or "lol this doesn't sound anything like gunners, my god axl sucks hes got weird hair!" what angers me even more is the fact that many of these mongoloids only heard about GNR via guitar hero, associate GNR with slash and therefore throw a shitfit when hes not there, that or just reiterate what other illiterate fuckheads have said.
i am all for literate, well argued criticism based upon examples and clarity. i also acknowledge that the new links are not suited to all people, however i cannot stand the nonsensical babble that the vast majority of nay-sayers regurgitate.

IF, and i say IF very tentatively the conversation with beta and her views of the hardcore GNR are at all remotely true, she can suck my dick. it feels like a slap in the face, us hardcore fans are part of the reason shes employed, we're the ones out there drumming up hype for this album all over the net and in our day-to-day lives, we're the ones defending the leaks against hordes of slash worshiping, AFD hungry idiots, telling them why this song is technically brilliant and epic, telling them why it is this way or that. and this is their opinion of us? IF this is true i am glad their shit gets leaked, i have a sour taste in my mouth just reading that horseshit.

its always been my opinion that throughout his career as a celebrity Axl has had people manipulating and leaching off him to serve their own distorted motives, altering his perception on things, sure he had an eccentric view of life anyway(lol jumping out of slash's car incident) but fuck, could Beta herself be one of these people?

once again, that is also just skepticism and my opinion of that recount of events, if(which of course they are in one way or another) in someway they are false of embellished then i apologise to Beta and Axl=)

#327 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Prostitute) is the biggest gun of all IMO » 879 weeks ago

In my opinion essentially anything of any genre can chart, and chart well, on the mainstream as well as the rock charts. there is very little doubt the album itself will debut at #1 simply because of the hype that surrounds it, if the singles(whatever they are) are marketed effectively as well as the album itself, there should be no reason a chinese dem single couldn't hit at least top 10 on the mainstream 100. an example being that terrible cockrock band hinder; their single 'lips of an angel', while terrible, was not overly poppy and contained elements of the conventional rock ballad/hardrocker. the song itself peaked at number 1 here in Australia and i am certain it charted well in the U.S and Canada. i would never compare the two bands(hinder and GNR) but it is evident that as long as a rock song has appeal, a chinese dem single will also have the added advantage of being released under the name Guns n Roses as well being propelled by the hype, that it can chart and chart well. it is obvious that just because it is rock does not mean it is automatically redundant amongst the mainstream audience, especially considering who we're talking about here-Guns N Roses.

my apologies for the 'stupid' remark, i was so swept up in the excitement of hearing shackler's that anyone who dissed its it automatically became my enemy.

Welcome to the site.  I hope post #2 has something remotely intelligent to say.

intelligent as in dismissing this latest leak as not having the ability to be a commercial success? because that my friend is lunacy.

#329 Re: Guns N' Roses » MSL's GnRSource interview transcript » 879 weeks ago

I am new here, and i'd just like to ask, how credible is this guys information? i am aware that with any source of information there is guaranteed to be exaggerations and embellishments, but the alleged conversations with beta and her bashing of the hardcore fans etc, how much of that could actually be cited as bullshit, and how much of it truth. has this guy proven himself to be legitimate in the past?
any information would be greatly appreciated.

#330 Re: Guns N' Roses » Song #2 (Prostitute) is the biggest gun of all IMO » 879 weeks ago

Not harder to hate.  Why argue a point that will be proven shortly?  Shackler's chance of commercial success = .0000000000000000000000000000001%

you can't be THAT stupid can you?
