The Rainmaker - This is now my favorite Grisham movie. Great from start to finish...and I wasn't expecting it to be a borderline comedy. Devito was amazing in this. Easily one of his best roles.

I need to watch this one.  It's one of the few Grisham's I haven't seen.

Walking The Edge--could have been great.  Instead it's just good.  Early 80s explotation film set in LA. Has a 70s "feel" outside of the soundtrack.  Generic plot.  But you're watching it Robert Forester's performance anyway.  And he's great in it.  It just this lull in the middle before it hits the finish where it drags down the movie.

The Last Days of Disco.  90s movie Beckinsale did before she became a superstar.  I'd seen this once a few years ago.  On second viewing, this is really funny.  I liked Chloe Sevigny more than Beckinsale though.  It's got some Woody Allenish qualities to it.  But it deals with shallow post college preppies in the early 80s where Allen's films seem to deal with older characters.  Not for everyone, as his (Whit Stillman's films) films are dialogue heavy.

Bullet Train:  I went to the theater for the first time in years to see this.  And it was pretty fun.  Not realistic so it's definitely a shut off your brain film.  You go in there, have fun and waste 2 hours and avoid the sun and just relax.  Summer film which delivers on that front.  Can't complain.  I liked the film adaption of the novel better than the novel itself which is rare.  They streamlined a lot of the plots which was nice

Up in the Air: speaking of George Clooney, this one is great on rewatch.  I think it's more appropriate now than when I saw it whenever it was released. I think Clooney works best as some smart aleck, suave kind of leading man role (ie Ocean's 11 stuff) like he does here.  I don't really buy him in any other type of role when he plays a lead.  Anyway, the film is about how empty his life is and how he tries to fill it by nabbing frequent flyer miles (kinda obsolete now).  Anna Kendrick almost steals the film from him as she is great and my favorite character in the film.  She's human and shows emotion unlike the Clooney character.

I have no idea what they are playing at, but I do know raiding the house of a former President for some bullshit stuff that is probably not even illegal, is not normal. You didn't see that in America. You don't see it in Europe. You see it in places like Mexico and Brazil.

LOL, you need to do some research.  He's just a normal citzen .  He is not immune to prosecution just because he was a president.

They could have subpoenaed him, or did a special investigation. They didn’t. For what they’re after it ties my seem this was worth it. It’ll only fire up his base.

I'm just going to assume that he (Trump) did some really shady shit that forced the FBI/Justice Dept to do this.  I mean what's more likely:  the FBI is "outta get Trump" or that Trump had sensitive info documents and wanted to sel them.

I think they asked him more than once to return whatever documents and he ignored it or just didn't comply.

I watched Payback (1999, Mel Gibson) last week on Netflix. I forgot how great this movie was.

Nice gritty action film with a good amount of comedy, as Mel gets payback on a bunch of bad guys, from who he wants to get back his 70k cut they ripped off from him.

This is one of my favorite Gibson films for that reason.  I also read the novels that the character was based on.  Avoid the Jason Statham movie Parker.  They are playing the same character but that one stinks.

There could be a lot more to this, of course. He was pretty reckless with classified info. Like he once declassified some secret Iranian missile sites just so he could post them on Twitter.

This is pretty much it.  There is no bias or witch hunt to get him.  The current FBI director was nominated by Trump and is a Republican.

Apparently he was in possession of some documents with secret/sensitive info and told him to return them a while ago and he probably didn’t return them.

And given his history of being reckless with this stuff, this sounds is why the raid happened.

The raid on Mara-largo is shocking and just more reason why people think there is a 2 tier Justice system. I am DeSantis all the way but this was fvcking bullshit.

No it's not.  Get out of the Fox News bubble.  You need a judge to sign off a search warrant on this.  That means there was evidence /probable cause that this occured.  The feds don't just search places without some shred of evidence.

From what I gather, the label told him that the album didn't have any hits (late 90s-early 2000s) and Axl went and edited/redid (use whatever term you feel like) the songs.  Caram just happened to be the guy who was the last guy standing when the album was released.  It's all on Axl.  The vision on those songs are all what he wanted.  Blaming the guy mixing the tunes is a bit misguided.

I bet the Republicans are secretly hoping (sane ones anyway) he goes down for this (mishandling classified federal documents).  He can't run for president as he'll be disqualifed from holding any office in the USA.

It’s a shame Val Kilmer can’t reprise Chris in HEAT, at least not in any meaningful way. I also think Frank (Thief) and Neil could have been the same person.

Of all the late 80s/early 90s guys who have aged, Kilmer hurts the most because I am a big fan of his work.

Yeah, Frank and Neil are pretty close.  I think they only differ maybe in temperament.  Frank has got that East coast tough guy thing (remember the scene where he goes off on that social worker on the adoption) and Neil is a little more laid back, although he is capable of turning into a wolf pretty quickly.

Having read the article a few times, I have no clue why anyone would find "Fairy Godmothers in Training" offensive or why it needed to be changed.

Thief - Yeah this was worthy of the hype. This is probably Caan's second best role...in between Godfather and Misery.

Only criticism is the end felt a tad rushed and I think their final showdown should've been more dramatic.

Love the look of the film. While technically 1981,  it feels like the 1970s.

Mann's prequel/sequel to Heat is coming soon. It's too bad that he's so old....same with all the Heat actors. A film instead of a book would be amazing.

From the little I read about it, sounds like some of it is set in 1988.

I think the ending is fine.  I love the slo mo scenes of him blowing away the goons at the end, especially the Dennis Farina part.  It's weird how Frank and the Neil character in Heat have the same flaw.  They want to live and function normally in society but what they don't realize is that it's not possible for them (you can probably toss in the Cruise character from Collateral as well).  They are fated to live in the shadows or whatnot.  Frank realizes this at the end and survives to live another day.

I'm looking forward to the book and a deeper look at the characters, especially the Chris one.  A sequel/prequel should have been done in the late 90s, early 2000s.  It's too late now.

Why did this make a billion? I don't get it.

Marketing mostly.  You had the crowd/fanbase from Iron Man and there were a lot of tie ins (toys, clothing, etc) that brought people to see that film.  I'd write more about this but it would seem like complaining about 2010's lack of creativity in film making.

You mention Watchmen.  At least that one was creative and tried something different with the genre.
