Doing business with Axl Rose is still a profitable situation. If you don't think so, then you are the one who is delusional.
Yup. Karma.
This thing was a disaster a few weeks ago... It should have disappeared.... No single should still be on the radio... We shouldn't even be talking about the charts let alone a single moving up.... BUT WE ARE.
If you want to keep holding up the HTGTH fanboy section of the fanbase who said it would sell 2 million copies its first week, then yeah it is a failure. But if you want reality: its actually pretty successful, not just for an album with no promotion, but any album in general these days.
If some people want to keep holding on to the "this was supposed to be the biggest album of all time but its not" thing, then be my guest. Wallow in your negativity all you want.
The cold hard truth is, in reality, the album is doing pretty friggin good by any "real" standard.
And yes, its good enough so that we can expect future releases.:mosh:
btw, wasn't it the biggest album for Geffen in 08?
Also, let's not forget that GNR hasn't blown their wad yet on any $$$ spent on promotion & It's still in position to take off at any time. It still has not dissappeared from the charts & "Better", their strongest single, is still on the rise. It would be different if they had already done interviews, Videos, Tour etc. and it still wasn't selling. Then, it would be over.

I wonder If "Better" is just now getting discovered by people. I can tell U that my Rock station Now has it in heavy rotation & I've read from people on other sites that their hearing it more often now as well.
The slow climb theory also makes sense because of the lack of Video & promo. And as others pointed out, a single only skyrockets to the top if it's a hugely anticipated release.

Better has officially move 2 spots up to #18 this week on the Jan. 24 Billboard chart.
CD is at #40.
I wouldn't call that picking up massive steam, but Better is slowly climbing the charts.

bigbri wrote:I agree it's not massive, but most people here have no clue how singles move up the charts. Singles do not debut in the top 10 unless they are a highly anticipated first single from a release, like CD.
Look at those charts. Why do you think songs in the top 10 have been on the charts for 15-20, even 30 weeks? Because they all take slow climbs up and slow climbs back down.
That said, I have no expectation for Better. Whatever happens is bonus, but the proclamation of it being DOA always was wrong. It's just not how singles charts work. Singles charts don't work like album charts. Albums debut high and almost never debut low and climb up.
Better's promotion has been piss poor. It has the potential to be a big hit, not just a moderate hit. It is catchier than a lot of the garbage that is getting played over and over on rock stations across the country, like that annoying ass "Bad Girlfriend" song, which sounds like a rip-off of one of the Cult's guitar riffs mixed with Nickelback's garbage lyrics and vocals.
Glad someone also sees that "Bad Girlfriend" is a complete ripoff of "Firewoman" by the Cult!

I'll listen to it in the car, at home, whenever I get a chance. And I've never picked out certain songs to listen to. It's always start to finish, 1-14 with no skips. I love the album and I can't see it leaving my CD player until another GNR album comes out. Unless of course that takes another 15 years, then I might break down. But I haven't listened to any other CD's since Nov. 23rd.
Same Here! Amen Brother!

That's some strange logic you're using there. M.I.A. is my favorite artist. Kala hasn't been in heavy rotation here in awhile. According to you, that would mean I no longer like her, and should leave her fan communities.
There's other music besides GNR. Whether someone loves the record or only likes a few songs, its not gonna stay in their stereo or Ipod forever. One thing about the lack of staying power with this album for hardcore fans is the fact we heard these songs for years, and most of the demos over the years are better than the final product.
While I do think its a solid record, I knew from the moment I heard it that it wasn't going to be in heavy rotation at my house for very long. That doesn't mean that I(or others) aren't fans.
Thanks. I understand what your saying. For me, I wouldn't take time out my day to post on a Band's fan forum unless I was a Obsessed, Hardcore fan of the current band. It sounds like several people here are more fans of the old band & talk about the current band with "disdain" almost. We've waited 18 years for new music from GNR & some people don't play the new record much after 2 months & only like a few songs? That sounds like a casual fan at best to me.
But, to each his own.

R U people serious? Why the hell would you spend time on a fan forum for a Band that U Know longer like? That seems strange to me. Of course I still play CD in heavy rotation. It Fucking rocks!

I don't understand how anyone thought CD was a great choice of a single.
Nobody cares about musicianship and all that anymore. People want a song, that they can listen to, have it fire them up and it be something they can wrap their heads around and get inspired by. Something you can relate to.
CD is the opposite. there isn't anyway the masses were gonna be able to relate to the song. It doesn't really fire you up, has little to no hooks and a minute intro.......... that all spells horrible first single.
so much attention was given to CD and the album was BURIED because of the poor reception of this single.
Put this in perspective. First single in 15 years, u have the WORLD's ear. Everyone wants u back, everyone cannot wait to hear what u have and u release THIS?
to beat it all, it couldn't even go number 1 on a freaking mainstream rock chart. that is just embarrassing when u factor in the GNR brand, fame and anticipation. THE ONLY reason it did as well as it did as a single was due to curiosity factor.
If Better were the first single, it would've got more attention than it has now and it would've been number 1 more than likely. CD killed CD and radio are fickle and rarely give people 2nd chances especially in the day and age of hip hop and satellite radio.
Nail meet head.

I didn't read past the first few posts because I'd really like to point out that promo and hype and two totally different things. The "promo" many are insisting this album had for a decade or so before it dropped is really hype. Now hype can be a good or bad thing, but it wasn't promo. It wasn't a conscious effort on the record label or band's part to consistently PROMOTE this album via advertisements, commercials, videos, etc. The only promo you could argue was two awkward tours spread across four or five years and they only really served as a greatest hits package and (at least the second time around) were done to continue funding the still not finished album. This album received no promo before its release, whether that be a week before or a decade before. It's receiving no promo now. What it had going for or against it was hype. Please, learn the difference.
Thank U! That's what I said before.:headbang:
