#21 Re: Guns N' Roses » 2016 Summer Stadium 'Not In This Lifetime' Tour » 487 weeks ago

I've been assuming that all of this marketing is being driven by live nation. they are the ones with the financial interest in this tour doing well, and we are seeing some common marketing techniques that have been used on other large tours.

we also have Slash and Duff in the mix, plus a rejuvenated Axl. I'm guessing they have had a say in all of this as well.

I'm sure TB deserves some credit for helping to organize the small, on the ground type stuff (e.g. the $10 ticket giveaway), but I just can't believe that they are responsible for anything major. I think Fernando is doing small BS work behind the scenes. Dealing with Live Nation and representing Axl in some limited way. (still makes me cringe typing that.)

this is one of the biggest tours of the year. I picture TB just getting laughed at behind the scenes by the true players at Live Nation and other parties involved.

But if I am wrong, please let me know.

The friend i went with i emailed in 2006 about going to the nyc shows. His response?   "No way, Axls not getting any of my money."

same with a few of my friends. but I was out with a bunch of friends on saturday, and their stance has softened a bit. getting back with Slash is the reason why. and the Troubadour show, with the $10 tix, is great press as well. but still can't convince them to go to a show.

I was one of those at the riot show James. I think Tommie was there as well.

I regret not going in 91.  I was 18 and geaduating high school.  It couldve been the night i geaduated, or it was right around then.  I just dont remember exactly why, i remember a kid asking if i wanted to go. I think they played a show in hershey, pa too.

So cool u went Sandman. Which mall did u score tickets at? I grew up near the willow grove mall.

I went to the Roosevelt Mall. I grew up in NE Philly. I believe at that time there was a West Coast Video that sold concert tix. The whole mall was an outdoor mall, but WCV was located in little strip mall down the street. I still remember hoping the line wouldn't be too long since it was just announced the night before and maybe a lot of the philly school kids would still be in class (not all schools had a half-day that day). then I turn the corner and couldn't see where it ended. it wrapped all the way around the building.

do you still live in the area? I live in Churchville now and I go the Willow Grove mall all the time.

A similar incident happened at my show as well. Many years ago some of us wondered if this stuff wasn't as spontaneous as we thought in our youth. YOu could make a case either way for it being a work or the fact he is just very observant of fights happening at their shows and for reasons unknown, wanted to make it a big thing.

That was such a great tour. I'll always regret not going to both nights in Mountain View. Had I known Izzy was going to bail, I'd have begged my dad to take me to both and also the Sac or Concorde show.

Good to see you back.  Weren't you at the riot show as well?

thanks! always check this board, even if I'm not posting. been loving all the talk the last few months. this is the place for intelligent thoughts on GnR.

yes, I was at the 2002 riot as well. I brought 7 of my closest friends/family, and I was so pumped they were finally going to see the return of Axl. LOL! 5 of those 7 will never go to another gnr show. they were really turned off big time by Axl that night.

it's gonna be interesting to see how the Philly show sells. I have a feeling there will be a lot of tickets available.

Just want to say that the 1988 and 1991 Philly gigs are some of the most energetic arena gigs I've seen on YouTube. I'm watching the 1991 gig and Axl actually commented that Sebastian Bach mentioned earlier in the evening the crowd is crazy. Axl goes, "This is like the biggest kegger I've ever seen." Haha. The crowd is fucking nuts for GN'R! Same goes for the 1988 gig too.

Anyone on this board attend either of those Philly gigs back in the day?

I was at both shows. thanks for the recognition!! glad you noticed because the show in 1991 was the greatest of my life, and I have sent this show to various friends and family and specifically point out how insane the crowd was that night, and how much energy Axl had on stage. he ran around like a caged animal and you could tell he was feeding off the crowd. I remember the energy in that building being unbelievable, and I was glad when I saw this on youtube a few years ago because you can hear the crowd non-stop throughout most of the show. people were so fired up they were just screaming the whole time. I remember my buddy saying that it was almost scary how energized the crowd was. we always comment how we've never seen anything like it. metallica shows have come close, and my buddy says some pearl jam shows have come close as well (I'm not a huge fan), but I'm sure i'll never see anything like that again.

initially, GnR did not announce a philly show. then sunday night, they announce a show at the spectrum for that Thursday. Tickets went on sale Monday at 4PM. that was exam week at most schools in philly, so most got out around noon. i went to the mall for tix by 1PM and there was a line around the block, but i still was able to get tix. that Thursday was also the last day of the school year for a lot of people. i think that was a factor as well...we were basically kicking off our summer with that show.

a small warm-up gig where they play 8-12 songs wouldn't shock me. but hopefully there is something in their agreement that Vegas needs to be their first show.

I keep telling myself that even if other shows are announced, the Vegas show could be the only chance to see them in an arena in 2016. if the rumors are true, it could be all stadiums this year. 25 shows sounded a tad ambitious, but if a few are in mexico and maybe a couple in Canada, that would leave 15 or so for the U.S. which I think makes sense for them.

#28 Re: Guns N' Roses » Cidade de Mexico Concert on April 19th Announced » 496 weeks ago

I booked my flights yesterday and now I'm thinking I should have waited a few weeks. I'm just going to be at the "first show." so I'm sure they'll announce shows for the weekend before any day now. and how ironic would it be if their first show was scheduled for April Fool's Day (which is the Friday before the first Vegas show).

But I'm guessing they do not do a few shows at a small venue like Hammerstein. I think the first time they are on stage together is such an epic moment, and they are a large venue/stadium act. I think an arena is perfect for the first show. exactly what they played all over the U.S. back in the day. and T-Mobile Arena is smaller than what they will be playing all year, so in a sense, it's perfect for warm-up gigs. fingers crossed!

just booked my airfare and hotel!! I'm flying in on Wednesday. going to at least the first show, maybe both. hopefully I get to meet up with some of you.

anyone know what's up with Sections 15 and 16? StubHub and the few brokers I have checked do not have any seats in those 2 sections.
