So does everyone think we're getting both songs in December?
#22 Re: Guns N' Roses » The General and Monsters » 86 weeks ago
You mean this?
"I recorded a little bitty thing [for CD] last week, for like a, sort of a quick little interlude to another song." (Tommy, Rhinocast, 01/16/06)
Apex dropping the knowledge, as always.
I'm skeptical about the interludes thing for the obvious reason - we never heard them. The other reason is the basic math of 12 songs x 5 minutes = ~60 minutes for your baseline album. An interlude heavy, seamless playback version of the album was probably out of fashion by 2002 and probably would incur additional production cost piecing it all together. The closest thing we have to this concept is the CD intro. The record company would have incentive for maximum song choice to throw everything at the wall in hopes it hits.

If you think that only 15 songs were done in 2008 and it was only Atlas they finished besides CD, I have a $14 million album to sell you.

There you have it. Beltrami worked on 8 songs, straight from the horses mouth.
I'm glad the Thyme = TWAT schizo theory can finally die.
The Blues, TWAT, Maddy, TIL, Prozzie.
The General, Soul Monster, Seven
(Thyme is 9)
I don't vant to do eeet!

How would you feel if you were Finck, Stinson and Bucket?
I'd be pissed off.
The lost time, the missed opportunities, the toxic work environment, the crazy boss.
But I hope they come around the boards and know how much they're appreciated though. I know Robin is known for his work in Nine Inch Nails but he got absolutely railroaded by how this has played out. "But he took the check, took his hush money". Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go sell your garbage somewhere else.
I hope the Roy Thomas Baker mixes leak out.

I just looked it up and it's not in CD Whispers. Fuck.
It was probably a Stinson and/or Fortus email in 2005 and obviously all those types of things weren't archived. The majority of CD Whispers is articles/interviews.
I've said this before but a fuck ton of CD related content is lost to history.
We're lucky we have as much as we do.
To answer the question...
Tommy mentioned how it wasn't going to be a long album and they were working on interludes at the time (2004-5). Fortus might have mentioned it too.
Later I'm gonna try to find it buried on HTGTH.
Ok, I vaguely remember that. I do remember Brain talking about Freeses post-TWAT drum solo and always wanting to hear that.
I think two albums 2000 Intentions and Chinese Democracy that are 8-10 songs long with extended sections and then cut into radio singles would be about honest with the quality of the past present and future material. That said, I don’t think it probably exists. I was disheartened to see so many discredit the Hard School intro on the Village intro. The worst thing about Silkworms to Absurd change is the cool bass line and drum section was dropped.
The problem is all these songs are too ranty and not sing songy, Axl is trying to catch up to material he can’t really fit into.
I’d love for it to be wrong.

Monsters
Hard School (Village)
Perhaps (Village)
Absurd
The General
Perhaps
Hard Skool
Silkworms
They ruined Hard School, diminished Perhaps, and dramatically improved Silkworms.
There's a lot to like about The General but it's too cluttered, too many direction changes.
I'll get shit for ranking Absurd so highly but it sounds like if Axl, Slash, and Duff recorded Axl's ideas in 1997 or whatever. It's got the classic dirty Gn'R vibe to it with some newer elements. I really like how it turned out.

Axl is getting his groove back here but it's not there yet.
It's not a matter of giving it a second coat of paint, it's painting the barn before it's raised.

I'd think the original version has a buckethead guitar solo or something in-between The General and Monsters, where the song restarts for the Monsters part like a Pink Floyd epic
If you're trying to depress me, you're doing a great job.
