2. Sunshine of Your Love- Cream
3. Bitch- Rolling Stones
4. Dolly Dagger- Hendrix
5. The Day I Tried to Live- Soundgarden
6. Fight From the Inside- Queen
7.Freeway Jam (Live)- Jeff Beck
8. Come Dancing- Jeff Beck
9. Purple Haze- Hendrix
10. Rock Bottom (live)- UFO
11. Walk This Way (live)- Aerosmith
12. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (live)- Black Sabbath
13. Back in the Saddle- Aerosmith
Interestingly, he listed his top 10 riffs 5 years ago (around the time of Contraband) in Total Guitar magazine and they were quite different. I'll try to dig up that issue when I get home. They were hand written. Back In The Saddle was number one I think. Number 10 had Black Dog scribbled out then he wrote the Ocean, scribbled it out and settled on How Many More Times. Space Truckin by Deep Purple was there - can't remember the rest. He also listed top 10 solos (No.1 was Last Child) and top 10 guitar players (Jimmy Page was no.1 I think, Rory Gallagher was in there too, which is cool).
#22 Re: Guns N' Roses » Former GN'R Manager Alan Niven Counters Axl's Claims » 855 weeks ago
This is a good article and helps place a few pieces of the puzzle together. However, I would like to know why Niven(and others) waited so long to speak publicly on the matter. This type of information should have come out years ago when it might have had a chance at making a sliver of an impact instead of waiting to the point where pop culture no longer cares and huge chunks of the original fan base have moved on. It would be like dropping the atom bomb on Japan years after World War II ended.
Its cool of Niven to speak out on the subject and luckily he has an outlet interested in printing it, but in my opinion its a case of too little, too late.
I think he'd prefer to keepv quiet I don't think he cares about making an impact. The reason he came out know was because he wanted to respond to Axl's recent forum allegation as "he has a right to defend himself", as he says himself.
#23 Re: Guns N' Roses » YOUR Chinese Democracy Playlist » 862 weeks ago
Here's mine:
Chinese Democracy [live 2001]
Buckethead Guitar Solo [live 2002]
Shackler's Revenge [album version]
Better [antiquiet leaks remastered]
The Blues [live 2002]
If the World [album version]
There Was a Time [1999 leak]
Catcher in the Rye [1999 leak]
Scraped [album version]
Silkworms Studio Intro [fake]
Riad N the Bedouins [album version]
Silkworms [live 2001]
Sorry [album version]
IRS [1999 leak]
Madagascar [antiquiet leaks remastered]
Oh My God [end of days soundtrack]
This I Love [album version]
Checkmate [cut]
Prostitute [antiquiet leaks remastered]
How the hell can you listen to IRS and There Was A Time without the Buckethead solos? Why would you want to?
Personally I'd put There Was A Time at the end of the album - I have to believe that was the original intention. I would keep Prostitute just before it the way they are on the antiquiet leaks. Having said that, I'm not gonna bother burning a CD to do it as I listen to Mp3s most of the time anyway.

Riad N' The Bedouins - as bad as it is hard to spell. Cool new intro though!

This is correct. Axl was talking about Brain, not Brian May.
What are you joking? Someone asked Axl why Brian May was taken off Catcher In The Rye? Why the hell would he talk about Brain who was on Catcher In The Rye. Makes no sense.

"Axl: There's a few reasons and none of them all that big and definitely not in spite or to slight anyone.
1st off obviously I knew people liked the song but the Brian appreciation really only showed up in force publicly after we had moved on in Guns. In fact Not many seemed to care and most comments were aimed at why Slash in their opinions should be here.
Brians solo itself is a personal fave of mine and I really couldn't understand as he's such a rock legend why it wasn't openly appreciated more at the time.
In actuality all that feel and emotion referred to now had a lot to do with Sean and I and the parts I chose out of Brian's different runs, versions, practice runs etc to make sure we had those elements in one version. It's entirely constructed from edits based around one specific note Brian hit in a throw away take. And though Brian seems to have warmed a bit to it at least publicly he was unfortunately none to pleased at the time with our handiwork.
I remember looking at Brian standing to my left and him staring at the big studio speakers a bit aghast saying "But that's not what I played."
Sean Beavan and I were not in any way tring to mess with Brian we just did what we do and then try and do our best to stand up for our decisions. "
Axl never really explained why he took Brian May off. Just claimed that Brian May wasn't too happy with the results. Axl wonders why it wasn't more appreciated - it wasn't officially released! Among the hardcore fan base it was loved!!
#27 Re: Guns N' Roses » Brian May Talks About Catcher n The Rye » 862 weeks ago
I thought Brian was upset that Axl and Beaven chopped up his solo and stood bewildered as they played it back to him?
Is this another example of 2 people having different recollections of the same event?
Brian addressed that point in the message, saying he had no problem with Sean chopping and changing the solo; in fact he and Sean had been involved. Perhaps, Axl wasn't aware Brian was helping Sean cut and paste. Still, the stories don't add up. And neemo, Axl was referring to Brian May, not Brain.

Haha that guy is gonna become famous as the guy Axl called a little cunt. He can always say he had an argument with Axl Rose!
#29 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl Rose/Dexter forum chat discussion thread » 862 weeks ago
Can someone explain who/what he was referring to with this part of his post:
The sharing thing is interesting but even with all this time the complications of the red tape and trying to get something out fall on my world to sort and not theirs. They are amazingly supportive and do their best to keep me in up spirits and focused which I had less and less of in Guns way before Sweet Child caught on. If that were to change then that may be something to look at. I hope for us to grow more together as we continue so who knows.
Somebody asked him if he thought about sharing the band name with the new guys. Silly question, really. (not you, the poster on MyGnR, lol).

Wow that was amazing to read...I hope some of the context doesn't get lost as he doesn't say what questions he was responding to, although if you read the questions thread it is usually obvious (how many people will do that though). At least he doesn't have a problem with VR playing GnR songs:
Not off topic but related to the GN'RTM , i've always wondered...
How do/did you feel about Velvet Revolver playing GN'R songs live? Did you worry about them mucking up the songs or decreasing their value by playing them. Are you glad the former members still play those songs so regularly on stage?
I seen Slashes Snakepit live in July 95 and they started playing instrumental Paradise city for the first 2 minutes before Slash stopped it by jokingly saying something like” We better stop so we don’t get sued!”
Dexter wrote:It doesn’t bother me unless it’s being done at my expense and or to keep him associated as in Guitar Hero. Him being Guitar Hero’s fine but not when Activison in using Jungle, having Yahoo use Sweet Child unauthorized, claims no involvement with Slash, his or anyone’s image or VR or anyone or anyone’s music in either camp in promotion or commercials etc. I wasn’t broadsided. I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That’s some low life chicanery on all their parts.
Seems he is more angry about any of the music ending up being officially released without his permission.
What the hell did he mean by this though:
The battles were during the breakup. Our people and my individual legal basically forced me to go thru the motions with everything I had to make things work for over 2 years in the sense that if they felt I wasn’t making every effort 110% and with all the sincerity and all above board I wouldn’t have their support which I wanted, couldn’t afford to lose or risk losing. Which led to the trial period where Slash played the key bits of Fall to Pieces but once I showed some interest that was over.
I am assuming that last sentence is a metaphor, anyone care to speculate?
