there was a time is definitely one of the most brilliant and amazing songs produced under the GNR name, people keep citing the lack of 'big guns' leaked thus far, but if TWAT isn't a big gun, then there is no pleasing some people.

yea it seems that way, but the quality certainly appears to be better, maybe the fact that the guy who posted it said it was amazing, and the fact that other people quoted the list and also commented on the quality acted as some sort of placebo. i know the chinese democracy on that list doesn't have the drums like it does on the cell phone recording, if that's any indication.

the people who apparently 'have an ear' for music are going crazy over at mygnr.com abbout the differences in the songs, 'if the world' is now apparently amazing etc. i am not going to comment as i am listening to them on a shitty computer through winamp. i am just wondering what those of you who consider yourselves musically savvy and can pick up on the subtle differences think about it.
i realise the sound quality is atrocious

thread starter on mygnr.com writes.
"Someone on another forum has leaked a cellphone recording of three new songs: Chinese Democracy, If the World and There Was a Time. The songs were recorded at a Best Buy employee preview, which was apparently held a few days ago; If the World is introduced by Andy Gould, who announces the song will be playing during the end credits of the new Ridley Scott thriller, Body of Lies.
The quality of the recordings is pretty poor, but you can hear the songs quite clearly, and many of the instrumentals and general production (and vocals) are different from the earlier demo leaks. Ron Thal has added his work to the tracks, and you can hear a lot of his contributions on the new version of the title track.
According to many people who claim to have attended this event, Andy Gould also said the album would be released on November 25th, exclusively through Best Buy. This info wasn't recorded on the cellphone, but presumably - since numerous people have reported it, and these people had also initially reported the song previews - the information is probably legitimate."

I had dinner with Duff last night. He basically told me that his heart simply wasn't in this anymore and then he walked out. My point being, I have no point. This isn't about releasing an album on the tails of some magical reunion tour. It's about how do you rebuild something that got so big and replace virtually every member of the crew, every little thing?
It is this year.
what?

that, to my knowledge, we, as a fanbase, have never, neither civilly, officially or as a group, asked for an update on the band situation. i mean, i could be wrong, but as far as i know the extent of the proactive action we have undertaken consists of snide comments in threads about the lack of updates, or as is the case at mygnr.com, bombarding fernando with insults and questions as soon as he makes an occasional appearance. why don't we, as fans of GNR, as a unit, articulately and politely ask for some form of update? couldn't a moderator either here or at mygnr conduct some sort of open letter an post it online/on the forum on behalf of the fans. its well known that members of the GNR 'inner circle' browse the boards, and it may yield some form of information, whats the worst that could happen? we don't get a response? it may display to those in the GNR camp, after the scathing response Axl received after his open letter to us, that we are capable of respect and civility towards axl and may serve to change their apparent negative opinion of us, the 'hardcore' fans.
however, don't misinterpret me, i am aware we have been dragged through shit whilst we wait for the album, but still, it couldn't hurt, could it?
if a similar idea has already been tried and failed than i apologise, because i had no knowledge of it.
just a suggestion
#279 Re: Guns N' Roses » Information on Shackler's Revenge » 874 weeks ago
if he wrote it, why would he point out that the song was written by dizzy and pitman? does he do this with all the songs he writes? "this song is called 'better' and was put together by robin and tommy, this song is called november rain and was put together by duff and steven, this song is called sweet child o mine and was put together by izzy and duff" if he wrote it why would he do that, did/does he think the song was poor and was covering his bases? if he wrote it it would not make sense to say that he didn't.

He didn't say that, but he has been critical of the 2002 VMA appearence, and those close have alluded to the fact that he thought Oh My God was this stellar track, even in demo form, and of course it was met with large negative reviews. Silkworms at Rio III was also met with harsh criticism.
the majority of your post was theory craft, based on unsubstantiated "i remember when" claims, but i am posting because i am adamant that silkworms was written by dizzy reed and chris pitman, Axl says that prior to the performance of the song at rock in rio.

there is the link to him saying who it was written by before the silkworms performance, so don't pin that dreadful song on axl. there was also a negative stigma surrounding axl(and still is) after the initial breakup of the band, which could be attributed to the largely negative reviews of Oh my god. the song itself although sloppy and under produced is actually pretty badass, imo.
