#2751 Re: The Sunset Strip » US Metal Band "All Shall Perish" in horror car crash - 2 people dead » 914 weeks ago
Maybe they should change their name to "Some Shall Perish".:haha:
Jokes aside, thats a tragedy. Never heard of this band before, so maybe I'll download a few songs and check em out.
Yeah I kinda thought the name was a bit ironic too.
I had never heard of them either.

Just read this article - its not clear if either of the two deceased people were band members:
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22948381-2,00.html
TWO men died and six others were injured when a mini-bus, believed to be carrying members of US metal band All Shall Perish, crashed on the New South Wales north coast today.
The van rolled several times and slammed into a tree after veering off the Pacific Highway at Moonee, north of Coffs Harbour, about 7am (AEDT).
Police said one man was killed on impact, while a 30-year-old passenger was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour. He suffered serious head injuries and died in Coffs Harbour Hospital.
Six others escaped with head injuries, cuts and fractures and were also taken to Coffs Harbour in a stable condition.
It was not known whether the dead men were band members.
Police said the crash, at Cunninghams Bridge, 1km north of Coffs Harbour, had shut the Pacific Highway to northbound traffic.
The crash occured at the end of an overtaking lane, with the van drifting off the road.
"It has left the road and rolled a couple of times before it has struck a tree," a police spokesman said.
Police said the eight occupants of the mini-van, which was towing a trailer, were travelling south when the crash occured.
The metal band is on a tour of Australia.

Unfortunately it's sad the way that the music industry has gone. As many people have said long gone are the days of multiplatinum sales for numerous artists.
Yes I will buy CD and I would expect most people on the GN'R message boards to (hell I even bought Baz's CD even knowing I wouldn't be playing it much). But the GN'R message boards don't necessarily represent the majority of the music listening public, i.e. the more casual GN'R fan.
For whatever reason today many many people seem to think it's their damn right to be able to download stuff for free without buying it. The justifications of "if I really like it then I will go and buy a copy" I think is a bit of a cop out.
Imagine me going into a shoe store and saying - let me have that pair of shoes to use for a week and if I like em I might come back and pay for them, if I don't I will just throw em in a bin and you get nothing for em. I don't care if you put money and effort into the process of putting that shoe on the shelf for me to buy...
To a certain extent the music industry brought a lot of it on themselves by charging so much (it was $30 for a new release CD in Australia for years - and still not much cheaper). They have also been so slow at keeping up with technological advances and looking at new ways to offer the medium to people (and still make money), so they were caught napping and are now paying the price big time - refer to article re. latest Geffen staff layoffs - ony of many music industry cutbacks in recent times.
The music industry screwed up by taking a negative view of downloading and invested time and effort into "software protection from piracy, napster litigation etc etc" rather than into innovation to embrace the new technology and try and use it to their and the artists advantage, so they are somewhat to blame for the predicament that they are in for failing to adapt to the new environment.
I have to laugh though when I hear people bitching about the cost of concert tickets, or the cost of the merchandising, or about not being able to bring in their own food and drink to outdoor festivals and as a result having to pay exhorbitant costs for it inside the venue. Well to a certain extent "suck the puss" you brought it on yourselves. An artist now has to try and make the lionshare of their income from touring and merchandise - so this is only going to go up. This is a logical fallout from downloading/stealing.
If you take the downloading thing to an extreme end it makes for some interesting thinking and scenarios. Assume for a moment that all music released by artists was free and available for download (this is effectively the way it's going based on the current trend whether the artists agreed to it or not their work is available for download - e.g. the full Libertad album was illegally available for download about a week before release), then once it is released there are numerous torrents for albums.
Ok, so assume for a moment that you could get whatever you want from off the net at no cost - just search for it. - No need to go through those greedy record companies anymore. This situation may sound perfect for some people but I think it would leave us with a bit of a problem.
How would we possibly search through all the shit on the net to find decent music? Where is the filter medium? At the moment radio and to a lesser extent TV are the main filter mediums that supposedly sort out the wheat from the chaff (not very efficiently at times and I know in Oz the radio stations are all pretty stale and "safe" with their playlists).
But seriously, if there are no record companies paying for airtime to heavily rotate a new single they think has potential (why would they now do this if they can't make anything from selling the artists CD's) - they also won't be financing too many new records either I would suspect (so you end up having to do what Baz did and fund the record himself).
So what are you left with????
If we have largely taken record companies out of the equation, then existing bands would have to finance new records themselves, new bands only if they had the $$'s to bankroll their own CD - or at least a recording to put on the net for free download (why waste time with a CD). But how do the mainstream find these new bands? They can't tour until they have some sort of following but how do they develop that and get their exposure?? - Post a clip of their band on youtube (amongst thousands of aspiring others) and hope????
Ok rant over - unfortuantely I don't have the answers. As soon as I do I will make a fortune putting the ideas in place myself Just some food for thought.
To anser the original question - yes I will buy CD when it comes out. I will also buy a copy on vinyl (if they put one out in that format), I will also buy every CD single, 45' and promo item I can get my hands on - but then that's just me I'm a bit fanatical like that.
#2754 Re: The Garden » Supernatural Experiences » 914 weeks ago
Ok well here's one experience I had when I was about 8 or 9.
My grandfather had a heartattack at our house and died there. For years he had smoked a pipe with the same brand of tobacco - Erinmore flake (I think it was called). Anyhow, a number of times after his death we could smell the tobacco scent coming from around the chair he used to sit in. You could smell if for a minute or two then it would stop. My sister and my mom could smell it too.
On another occassion I was sitting in our family room watching TV. To my right hand side there was a big long window that looked out onto our front yard and it had a little path right in front of it. Anyhow, while I was watching TV something moving caught my eye through the window, I looked over to see a figure (that in the fleeting moment I saw it, it looked like my grandad) walk past the window down the path.
Bascially the front of the house had a big long window, followed by a wall then a second window. So after I had seen the figure walk past the front window and dissappear from view because of the front wall of our house, I looked over to the second window since if they kept walking I would see them then go past that window too. Our cat also used to sit on the window sill of the second window. When I looked over to there to try and confirm who was out the front - nobody went past the window. However, the cat was standing up arching it's back with it's hackles right up staring at something in front of the wall of the house.
So I basically get up and run out the front door which was straight off the living room anyhow and go to have a look out the front of the house. I get there in about 2 or 3 seconds and there is nobody there. We have a big front yard that is bascially all lawn so you could see prettty far so nobody would have had time to run off without me seeing them. It was weird.
Later that night we could smell the tobacco again too.

Thanks for that DTJ I had neverly actually watched that footage before.
Does anyone know if Adler was in the court room as well and did he get up on the stand for questioning also?

Nahh - didn't dare ask about CD. He was actually really cool and in a good mood cracking a few jokes etc. - But I'm sure the guy isn't a big fan of photos!
Understandable really
Think about how many times he has been asked for a photo to be taken by a fan.
After the Hammersmith gig in London Axl was driven out in a Limousine and he wound his window down to say hello to the handful of fans that were still hanging around (I was one of the sad ones still hanging around).
When his window started to go back up I quickly asked for a photo but he just laughed and shrugged his shoulders. I think my "Wheres Izzy" tshirt may have put him off a little
In hindsight one of the funny things was my other mate who was there that also got a photo had a Queens of the Stone Age T-shirt on. It wasn't till I reflected on that and the Pidgeons of Shit Metal comment later that I had a bit of a laugh.
He was actually really accomodating, he stopped had a laugh and chat, let us take photos as well as get a couple of things autographed. He must feel like a bit of a sideshow coz that's all going on at the same time Beta, Vanessa, BBF, Bubbles and a couple of other people he had been out with stood around watching and waiting for him.

Thanks!......errrr, I think?
You did a good job man. Think you could do one of Slash taking a whizz on Santa or something like that for my thread?
Afraid I'm not that good with PSP just yet. If you can find a photo of Slash taking a whizz on Santa I'll be glad to add a Santa hat to Slashs head though
P.S - You all suck for not wanting GNR related Xmas avatars. Wheres the fucking Xmas spirit?
Alright can you put a santa hat on both me and Axl in the pic I posted in the "post your pics thread"?

Aussie wrote:That forumale also shows (and backs up a long held thought of mine) how much creativity for new material was hurt with the departure of Izzy.
Totally. Izzy's solo albums are proof of that... he's got some great material, and I have always found all the other ex-members solo projects a bit mediocre. I think if Axl is missing anyone from the old lineup, its Izzy. I'd love to see him collaborate with the guys in the band now some more (gnr or otherwise).. him and Richard are cool together on stage.
Yeah, Slash might have bitched and moaned about how difficult it was working with Izzy, but whatever Izzy was doing, it seemed to be pretty effective.
I agree it would be great to see the effect of input from Izzy on the existing and/or future material from GN'R I think he has a lot to offer.
