With all the money sunk into this album and masses of rented gear etc etc (according to the Zutaut interview), surely they could have afforded a guitar tech to tune the guys bloody guitar before he starts playing?

Plus what was everyone else in the studio doing - were they deaf?  Im a total hack on my guitar but even I can tell if it's out of damn tune.

WTF does "tuning issues" mean?

It isn't a reunion without Izzy. End of discussion. Izzy is and has always been the go between. For fuck's sake, he went on a European tour with Axl within the last few years. He started his first bands with Axl. He went to High School with Axl. He still plays with Duff and Slash on various occasions. He showed up for the AFD 20th. He would clearly do a reunion tour if it is done properly.

Yeah, but by the same token, we had the guys on the 2006 tour saying that he enjoys that setup - dropping in occasionally, but not being obligated to make an appearance. I don't doubt that he'd tour if it was the right setup, but I couldn't imagine it being a going concern. After all, "Izzy is Izzy."

Plus I'd gnaw off my own arm to see Fortus and Slash sharing a stage. big_smile

If the reunion happens I guaran-damn-tee that Izzy will not be a permanent part.

Also, I'm going to go on record as saying that Matt will be your drummer for the tour as well.

I actually belive that Izzy will be a part of it and for more than just a tour.

I am sure the other guys know that if it is to be something more than just a reunion tour. ie recording new material together, the only way this will happen successfully is if Izzy will be a party to it.

But I agree, beyond a tour and releasing some new material, it would be hard to keep him around for a long period after that.  Particularly if the whole circus thing and prima donna attitudes started to creep into the camp.

I disagree on the Sorum thing.  Adler (if he is still alive at the time) will be a part of it in some form.  There is something magical (and saleable) about having "the original lineup".  Practically if there was a world tour they would either have to rotate the nightly drum spot or even share the duties each night.

But I firmly believe that whenever it happens Adler will be a part of it.  I also want it too, personally whilst I think Sorum is a capable drummer  and I was really happy with his UYI drumming - from what I see, plus what I have heard the guy is a cock head and I have grown to dislike him quite a bit over time (long story)!

Anyhow - all these decisions would be a nice problem to have.  Unfortunately I think it's still quite a long way off.  Personally I would like to see CD out, toured and dusted before all this shit started to enter the equation.

lol - that thought crossed my mind too.

Whether the meeting happened or not, if Slash ever wants to be back with Axl he has to really make Axl want/need him.

At the moment Axl obviously has the whip hand.  You then look at what Slash has done post GN'R with VR and Snakepit - yes there are some good moments in there and I personally like a lot of the stuff, but as a collective it's nothing truly mind blowing/ground breaking.

The best thing Slash can do is get to his solo record then work his ass off.  He has to really push himself and also have the right people working with him on it from both an artistic point of view plus a producer point of view.  In addition, if someone like Rick Rubin tells you that you have some good stuff but should write some more and keep working on it, then suck it up put your head down and keep creating.

If he is able to produce a solo record with really epic guitar work through the whole album, not just one or two tracks, he then starts to become a more attractive proposition for Axl.  He needs Axl to hear his work and think "I need to have this guy back".  At the moment the only thing he is really offering is his iconic image and the fact that he is the original guitarist (which is enough for me), but for Axl I dare say he has to offer more than that.

At the moment Slash is a bit like a beaten dog that would skulk back home as soon as his master will let him.  He needs to address that position and wrest some of the power back from Axl by producing some of the truly great work that we all know he is capable of.

Once he is in that position and can show that he doesn't necessarily need GN'R to be great again, then anything is possible from there.

Here is Glenn's viewpoint on this. Glenn is a guy who tracks celebs down and has a website dedicated to their height.

glenn says on 22/Apr/08
i can confirm that axl wasnt at slashs hotel.thats for damn sure.i was there.and when i wasnt, other people i know covered it.so they wouldve spotted him.as for him being in the city,id say that was 90 percent false.that ill research though.however, slash did disappear off the face of the earth and was never spotted leaving his hotel.so either he flew out early the next day, which made no sense as the other guests(tom morello)stood around for days, and slash was expected to stick around.but nobody knew how he flew in or out, which we usually do.another theory i have is he checked out the hotel and switched to another, which is what celebs do on rare occasion to avoid being hassled.he was at a midscale dump for his standards.so maybe he switched to his usual 5 star hotels.and if he did,a meeting with axl wouldnt be impossible, and could be the cause of his switch.but this sounds pure fantasy.ill ask around.thanks.

I saw that and kinda thought it was funny.  On the one hand he is bascially saying that Axl wasn't there because he or other people "had the hotel covered" the whole time.  But in the next breath he basically says he doesn't know when and how Slash left???

Back on the reunion thing, I don't see them getting back together until CD is released and touring done.  As Madagas has pointed out in a few posts, if Axl is the only one getting any $$'s from the actual recording contract with the hired guns getting paid salaries for touring or CD contributions, why would he cut Slash in on that now?  Yeah sure it would probably boosts sales and interest, but why play that card yet, he would keep that ace up his sleeve for later.

Besides, from what I understand Slash would only come back if it was equal shares and control of the band - none of this pathetic contracted bullshit.  Plus I doubt he would join without Duff and probably Izzy too.

#2605 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rumor: Axl and Slash at same hotel in NYC? » 896 weeks ago

Reading some more of that thread on mygnr it actually sounds plausible.  The poster really did ring the hotel - he put audio up of one of his 3 phone calls.

He also says he has been to the hotel twice and tipped 2 different porters to get some info on it.  His last post was:

I've just been there again and come back. Some cool news.
But the most important point is that Axl and Slash were in the same hotel,at the same time and they were friendly each others.

So I've Spoken to another porter...a different one.

About Slash:

He was very nice

Talked about a show,a charity show at nokia centre just around the corner few days ago where he played.

He used to chill on the road smokin' some cigarettes

He was with his child

About Axl:

He was with a girl

He chatted with slash

He has been polite

And something else I can't remember.

This is what I've gained with 20 bucks!!

Not to give the guy is 15 secs of fame if he doens't deserve it, but there could be truth in this.  He has had over 2,000 postings there.  BTW he isn't the guy that came out with the original story either, he simply called the hotel a few times and went round there to talk to the porters to try and see if there was any truth in the matter.

Even if it is true - there is nothing to say that it was nothing more than a coincidence.  But at the same time Axl is into all that hocus pocus stuff so maybe he will see it as a sign if it was a chance meeting.  If it wasn't and it was planned.....

#2606 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR issue statement about Robin » 896 weeks ago

It's good to hear something out of the GN'R camp.  Although the statement seems to confirm what most of us were suspecting and that's that the GN'R camp don't know what Robin is doing and they were really broadsided by the NIN news too.

I agree with James, Axl will press on regardless of what Finck decides afterall CD is his baby and he will do what he wants when he wants.

It still staggers me that if CD was really close that after all this time and presumably being so close Finck would pull the pin now?  Suppose we may never know what actually drove him to make the decision, besides he may still be able to have his cake and eat it to depending upon when it is actually released and a tour rolled out.  He may be finished touring with NIN by then.

listening to the 14 Years demo right now....me likes Izzy.:D  a perfect example as well that Axl is good enough to handle piano duties as well.

Yeah I liked that Demo from the first time I heard it - I really like the outro/coda to the song too, (I have the original DAT's where that song came from wink

I would love to hear some more Izzy stuff - he is the key with the songwriting!!! As much as I don't think this rumour is true I would love to see Izzy partnered with Axl again for the abilities he brings to the table with songwriting.  Alhtough if you believe all the rumours and the albums done and handed in, then it would kinda mean Izzy was wasted and under utilised if he joined them now, after the fact.

Back to the 14 years demo, I know there are other DAT's containing unreleased Ju Ju Hounds & GN'R stuff etc that hopefully I will have the privelidge of hearing one day too.

I think the first part of the scream is what gives it away.  It doesn't sound anything like Axl's voice to me.

everything is speculation and theory at this point....Mysteron is no different. Album release fit in with a current topic about releasing the record.

Exactly.  Unless Mysteron posts something that isn't vague and actually tells us something, it's all speculation.  The guy has a method of posting in ways that can never be interpreted as wrong.  He'd make a good politician.

I agree too.

I was reading the thread about this on HTGTH and I can't believe how gullible people are.  Well at the very least easily lead or hoodwinked into a certain way of thinking.

Whilst nothing that Mysteron says I believe is incorrect, the assumption that a lot of people are now making as a consequence is that the album must be very close to being released.  I mean Mysteron wouldn't be making comments like this unless it was - right? 18

Based on recent events with Finck as well as historical experience I think we are still a long way off from the release. Myseron's comment is a vague generic bone that has been tossed to the fans as a way to placate them rather than because the album is close to dropping.

But some fans have now swallowed the bait and rare running with it.  14 Quick get the gaff...
