#231 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN'R 2021 Tour Thread » 251 weeks ago
So unsurprisingly the Australia/New Zealand tour has been pushed back a year.
Am I reading too much into the wording of this part of the statement?
"Until showtime, let's rock out to Hard Skool".
Does that imply that's all we are getting before gigs in November/December 2022?
I don't think it really implies anything. Just, the band doesn't communicate a whole lot so as a fanbase we read into every little thing they put out there.
We anticipated Hard Skool since it was on setlists in 2019 and soundchecked in 2020, so we carried that anticipation into this tour.
Then after the first show of this tour we see a setlist about Absurd and start speculating what that is, most guessing it's Silkworms. Surprisingly, things moved really quickly and it was performed at the next show and then released at midnight a few days after that. So then the hype for Hard Skool builds even more because they're actually releasing music and still soundchecking it.
Fast forward a few weeks and we are where we are now. The two songs they intended to release have been released and those were the ones as alts on this leg of the tour. They now have a long gap and in theory could release more during that gap - the reason we'd have no hints about other songs is, if it wasn't going to be played on that last tour leg, there'd be no reason to rehearse it and have it as an alt on the setlist so we'd have zero knowledge of it beforehand.
We'll see what happens. Their strategy doesn't make a whole of sense as things stand - singles don't make a lot of money, the exist to promote things. There's only a handful of dates left and a big gap until the Europe shows next Summer. So either something else (more releases of songs/other content or tour dates) is coming OR... this band isn't always the most competent and are genuinely pushing a new single with three tour dates left.
All sensible signs would point to more stuff being in the works but it's GN'R so who knows.

Look at what happens when any one of those people gets it and geta it bad….all the sudden fear consumes them and then rush to the nearest ER where all too often it’s already too late.
Not so brave when you’re knocking on deaths door are we?
Tbf, most people aren't brave when dying. Usually they're regretful about things in their life. It's sad.

Yup, the potential side effects of the vaccines (and the odds of having a very bad reaction) are so much less bad and lower than your odds with contracting covid. Even if someone unvaxxed gets Covid and does ok, there are long Covid complications that are worth avoiding.

IMO a ‘press release’ is about as un rock n’roll as you get. They’re for corporates
Literally every musical act - even small ones - do official announcement notes saying what the hell it is they're doing. It's a normal thing.

I can't see how the vinyl production delays are a surprise to them since they did the updated Greatest Hits vinyl release in 2020.
Also it's all available exclusively through their own store. This isn't a mass market release - it's a "take pre-orders from hardcore fans who actually want this for a few weeks/months and then send order to printing and pressing plants" release.

My god....
The vinyl ships June 24th, 2022
The CD ships Feb 25th 2022
That officially rules out an album until next summer at the earliest.
Not necessarily. Long waits for physical media releases are the norm these days. Digital launch and then physical ships months later.
Could see something in Spring. But with the way things are, who knows.

The press release only credits Axl as the writer.

Well, I gave them my money.

That really doesn't sound like Hard School to me.

The less they talk the quicker they release new songs so I'm going to vote for an album. Incredible we know almost nothing about it.
I'd love a surprise, completely out of the blue album release.
It's not unprecedented. Many other mainstream artists have done similar releases.
It also prevents leaks.
I'm going to kick myself for this. They've effectively been shadow dropping singles now with no notice and also saying virtually nothing after they do.... a shadow drop of an entire album/EP to be followed with a physical release for fans to buy later is possible.
It lines up with how they've done things with these two singles and isn't unheard of these days. Other much more mainstream artists have done the unannounced album release to streaming platforms online with a physical sale beginning weeks/months later. That way they get to release the thing themselves without a leak of the physical media ruining the launch.
Fuck, now my hopes are up again and I think that's what they might actually be doing. Guess we'll know by end of the year.
Did we all start to have the same thought at the same time!
