At the moment, I'd say its debatable whether VR will continue to exist next year.

Have to agree on that one, don't think Slash n Duff would want to deal with this.

Yahoo! Music conducted an interview with LED ZEPPELIN members John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page about the group's reunion show at the O2 in London on December 10. The guys talked about how the reunion about, the passion and the intensity that is still there for the band, Jimmy's fractured little finger, Jason Bonham filling in for his long-deceased father John, how they are getting along, and finally making the ZEPPELIN catalog available for digital download.

RUDY SARZO Reflects On Legacy Of QUIET RIOT

Debby Rao of KNAC.COM recently conducted an interview with bassist Rudy Sarzo (DIO, ex-QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE) about QUIET RIOT's enduring legacy and his relationship with the group's late vocalist Kevin DuBrow, who was found dead in his Las Vegas home on November 25, 2007. The following is an excerpt from the interview:

KNAC.COM: Rudy, how does it feel to be part of the legacy of QUIET RIOT?

Sarzo: "I am very proud. Not only the legacy of QUIET RIOT that the world got to know, but the Randy Rhoads version that was more of a Los Angeles legacy of that era. Of course, Randy had his own legacy with OZZY OSBOURNE. Kevin and I shared that too. We both got to play with Randy in the first version of QUIET RIOT. I am very proud. I've always considered myself to be one of the guys who is only as good as the people that I played with. I have been very blessed to have played with some of the best. Anything that can be said about me is pretty much due to the company that I have kept. I was very proud of every night getting up on the stage and being in the company with Kevin and course Frankie and Carlos and also the other version of QUIET RIOT with Randy and Drew."

KNAC.COM: What was your favorite memory of performing with Kevin?

Sarzo: "There were so many, numerous moments of playing with Kevin. The early QUIET RIOT shows were a little bit more bittersweet. We were very happy as a band but very sad because we were not getting the attention from the industry and we were struggling. We used to perform two sets a night at the Starwood regularly. The first set was considered the showcase for the record labels. The Starwood was a big club with a very high ceiling and to the left side of the stage was the balcony that was the V.I.P. section. We would reserve the tables for all these record companies to come down. Around that time, 1978-1979, the record companies were more interested in new wave bands. We would start the show with the hopes that somebody would come out and hear the new songs and new presentations and halfway through the set thou you were enjoying performing the show I couldn't help the feeling disappointed that VIP section was empty. Though you were enjoying what you were doing musically you still had the feeling that you were going nowhere at the same time. It was very bittersweet. The week that 'Metal Health' was released we performed our very first show at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. That was in March of 1983 and that show was recorded for Westwood One, live at the Roxy. We did four sold-out shows in two nights at the Roxy and it was phenomenal. Shortly after, we drove up to the San Francisco area to do three shows with VANDENBERG in Berkley, Palo Alto and San Francisco. Basically, we were a bunch of guys just driving ourselves around in a station wagon. Then from the station wagon, we graduated to an RV. We drove a van up to Duluth, from Van Nuys, California to start the tour with the SCORPIONS. We did about a couple of week's worth of shows leading up to the US Festival. During our performance in Denver the promoter for the show, Barry Fey, who also happened to be the promoter for the US Festival, offered us the opening spot on the US Festival 'metal day.' Of course we jumped at the once in a lifetime opportunity. Shortly after we got on the ZZ TOP tour followed by a tour with LOVERBOY. By then we had a tour bus. Subsequently, we went our own headlining tour before joining the IRON MAIDEN tour. That November while we were tour supporting BLACK SABBATH, 'Metal Health' reached No. 1 in the Billboard charts. It was an incredible climb to the top and were all a part of that, we were living it and going through it all together. That was incredible because can you imagine? We had to sell a million records that week to get to No. 1. While we toured with IRON MAIDEN, we got to perform at the Garden. That was spectacular. To walk as an opening act onto the Madison Square Garden stage and see that every single seat was filled was amazing and unforgettable. It was an amazing adventure. We experienced that all together'¦ Kevin, Frankie, Carlos and me."

#16 The Sunset Strip » NIN Remix Site Goes Live. » 916 weeks ago

According to The Pulse of Radio, the NINE INCH NAILS remix site, Remix.NIN.com, has finally gone live after being blocked for several days by Universal Music, parent company of NINE INCH NAILS' former label, Interscope Records. Universal did not want fans using master recordings of other artists in remixes of NINE INCH NAILS songs. Frontman Trent Reznor said online, "Universal feels that if they host our remix site, they will be opening themselves up to the accusation that they are sponsoring the same technical violation of copyright they are suing (YouTube and MySpace) for."

Universal was willing to let NINE INCH NAILS itself take over the remix site, on the condition that Reznor take legal responsibility for any copyright issues regarding other artists' samples.

The NINE INCH NAILS mainman has been encouraging remixes of the band's material at its official web site for several years.

NINE INCH NAILS issued a remix CD of its "Year Zero" album last week, titled "Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D". The album is available as a digital download, a triple-vinyl set and a CD/DVD-ROM.

In other news, NINE INCH NAILS touring guitarist Aaron North has formed a new band called JUBILEE. The group also features QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE bassist Michael Shuman and members of other Los Angeles acts. A CD and digital single called "Rebel Hiss" will be issued on January 21.

#17 Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » SLASH Talks 'Guitar Hero'; Video Available » 916 weeks ago

Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about his involvement with Guitar Hero III.

"I think it's a huge honor to be a part of this game," he said. "It's like I actually represent electric guitar to a legion of kids that are into this game, which has got to be the most popular game out right now '” and I've been asked to put my brand on it, which is very, very cool."

Slash was also asked about his familiarity with the game, and what it was like to be animated for certain sections of the game itself.

"The first time I ever played guitar hero '” I had never seen it, but I heard about it, and I heard about all these people who were raving lunatics with this thing, and having parties and the whole nine '” so I started playing it, and I got hooked on it from that point," he said. "And then I get this phone call about being involved with the new Guitar Hero game. I just told them how enthusiastic I would be to get involved, and they seemed the same and that's how it basically went from there. My motion capture experience; there's a dozen people and suits to put on and little balls all over the place '” pretty much the goofiest suit I can recall wearing. It's seemed weird to do it without interacting with a band and stuff. I'll be interested to see what it looks like when it's done. The last few hours of walking around and doing all these little poses with this suit on will probably all be worth it."

#19 Guns N' Roses » GUNS N' ROSES N' Promises: Is 'Chinese Democracy' Ever Coming Out? » 916 weeks ago

Horrific

Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle reports: There's something missing this holiday season, and it's not just the lack of inclement weather.

For the first time in years, nobody is spreading rumors about the imminent arrival of a new GUNS N' ROSES album. "Chinese Democracy", which has been on the verge of coming out for the better part of a decade, currently has no pre-release buzz, a fact that makes us want to start a rumor right now. Things are a little bit too quiet ...

At this point, though, it might be better if the album didn't come out. A release of "Chinese Democracy" would be like O.J. Simpson suddenly finding the real killer. Aging metal-heads' hearts would give out. Stock markets would crash. MTV newsman Kurt Loder would probably have to stop working, and so would Larry King. (At this point, does anyone doubt that they're the same person?)

When Peanuts creator Charles Schulz announced his retirement in the late 1990s, there was much talk about his final strip. One popular prediction was that Charlie Brown would finally get to kick the football '” advice that Schulz very wisely didn't take. If Charlie Brown kicked the football, it would undo 50 years of good comics with one bad one.

That's exactly how I feel about "Chinese Democracy". We, the remaining GUNS N' ROSES fan base, are Charlie Brown. The album is the football. And Axl Rose is Lucy, repeatedly setting deadlines he knows he'll never make, because the public is gullible enough to believe him. (I think Slash is Schroeder in this analogy, and Stephanie Seymour is the Little Red-Haired Girl, although I haven't totally thought that part out.)

#20 Re: The Sunset Strip » METALLICA Discussion » 916 weeks ago

According to 1UP.com, Paul DeGooyer, MTV's senior vice president of home entertainment, has told the Rocky Mountain News that MTV and Harmonix plan to debut new music exclusively on the Rock Band video game '” and one of the first could be a doozy. "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with METALLICA for example," DeGooyer said. "They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game."

DeGooyer also said that while a Rock Band-themed show on MTV isn't currently in the works, it's not something that hasn't been considered. "The risk is that a show would be put together that's not very good," DeGooyer said. "We need the right concept, one that looks at how gamers engage with the game. There really isn't this impetus to put the wrong show up. The game speaks for itself."
