I don't think Soundgarden that important outside of North America, compared to Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I'd say they're Stone Temple Pilots level with Alice In Chains only slighty ahead air-play wise.
Nirvana, Pearl Jam = Way, way ahead to my generation.
I think Alice In Chains are a little underestimated in their influence on music. Many metal bands through the late 90s and 00s cite AIC as a large influence (kind of like Faith No More). I agree that only Nirvana and PJ have a real chance at first ballot entries, but I think Alice in Chains has a lot of potential to get in there within a couple tries.
I don't think Soundgarden is a real consideration for first ballot but we should find out shortly as they'd be eligible in the next year or two I think.
You never know HHOF may decide to induct AIC/PJ/Soundgarden all together in 2016 as the publicity of an "all-grunge" induction would be significant. Also, since all the guys in each band are good friends it would be quite a show, with guys swapping spots all over the place. I don't include Nirvana here as they have a real good chance at getting in earlier on there own.

Yeah, what has Josh Homme accomplished. Talk about a nobody.

OK, Jesse Hughes' only claim to fame. Better? And compared to Axl's success, Homme's career is a fucking joke.
Fair enough about Hughes. As for Homme, maybe his career hasn't soared to Axl's height (in his prime), but it's hard to deny his career has been pretty successful by today's standards.

I did the download. It's from it's own server. You don't use Napster, iTunes or anything else.
You go to www.gnronline.com/vinyl, punch in your code, get your mp3s.
There was no booklet included.
Darnit. I was hoping to get it with the vinyl download. Now if I want it, I've got to buy the music in yet a third format that I can't even use since I use Creative MP3 players rather than iPods for my portable music.

Black Ice sold around 1,762,000 units in its first week, shipping 5,000,000 copies worldwide. The album went number one in 29 different countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. In its first week, it sold 784,000 copies in the US alone, with it receiving a three times platinum certification in Australia and selling upwards of 110,000 in the UK. The band's 15th effort has been heralded as "the biggest debut ever by a mainstream hard rock album."
I could go and change it my self to 100 Billion albums. That doesn't make it true. The fact that anybody who actually registers on wikipedia can update, means everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt if it is on wikipedia.
It could very well be ture, but I'd have to see more than just Wikipedia cited as source to give it credibility.
Back to the point of the thread... 400,000 US. Double that number up worldwide at about 800,000.

I'm just wondering if the download that came with the vinyl includes the digital booklet that you'd get with Itunes since they didn't include the lyrics with the vinyl. Unfortunately the vinyl isn't out in Canada yet, so I can't check myself.

With the size of this release most will be close in price, so I'd rather support the shop that is sticking to music rather than Best Buy/HMV/Future Shop who have gotten rid of most of their floor space that stocked music and replaced it with Video Games and Movies. I understand why they do it, but as a music lover, I don't want to see the disappearance of music stores.
All that said, whoever manages to stock the vinyl Sunday morning in Edmonton will get my business for both the vinyl, CD and whatever else I decide to buy that day.
Go to Megatunes. I'll bet you they stock it in vinyl. When Metallica's new album came out they stocked Metallica's entire catalog in vinyl. Megatunes carries a wack of vinyle man.
Yeah, I'm hoping they will have it on Sunday as they are the store I'd prefer to buy it from, but they sounded sceptical that the vinyl would be in on time when I checked a couple of days ago. Megatunes are actually doing a midnight sale of the album at a bar downtown (I forget the name) but I doubt they'd be selling the vinyl there.

I know in the US there is only Best Buy but since everywhere else is getting a traditional release, I figured we should start listing the stores that we know of that will be doing a midnight opening for Chinese Democracy.
So far in Alberta, Canada, Magatunes in Calgary will be doing a midnight sale.

Hopefully, the Edmonton store will follow suit.
