Other than Prince as Axl dedicated anything in a positive way to anyone?
Todd Crew.

Sandman is right but atari does have a point.....when someone looks at a map of the US, the major east coast cities are fairly close to one another. Packed in like sardines in comparison to major cities on the west coast which are spread out.
Hope you have a blast at the show. mrsaxlrose is going but she hasn't posted in awhile. Acquiesce is in Philly(unless she moved recently) but don't know if she's going.
Some people just aren't interested in forum meet ups....not just because of potential shyness on their part but because everyone knows there are some loons on these forums.
I hear what you are saying. probably some truth to that, especially for a stadium show. gnr/metallica skipped Philly back in the day. but typically, major acts play NY, Philly, and DC and there is no concern with it being too close. each market is so big.
but I'm sure anyone involved would have been thrilled with the thought of approximately 48,000 in Philly. you always want a sell-out, but 2K less ain't bad.
I just packed the coolers and am leaving soon to head down. 95 and humid. it's insane.
someone on this board pointed out how great the philly crowd was back in '91. the band has an interesting history with philly too:
- Axl got harassed by some cops (he mentioned on stage)
- Duff mentioned Philly in his book....something about hitchhiking to a very unsafe area to buy drugs in '91.
- and then of course the no-show/riot. and the subsequent EF show where he apologized in 2012.
I hope the crowd brings it tonight! I'm in the RIGHT PIT with 20 people total. probably be hanging near the back.
everyone enjoy!!!!

i think calling ticket sales "mixed" is very misleading. there's about 2,000 tickets left based on the map. that means 48,000+ seats have been sold.
So no, not a case of over-booking. I'm sure Live Nation is happy with these sales, especially at the average ticket price they are getting.
Philly is a major market, but not as populated as Chicago or NY. it's also a Thursday night in the middle of the summer. and there's also still plenty of anger about 2002 cancellation. it still gets mentioned regularly by certain DJs on the #1 rock station here (93.3 WMMR), which has just fueled the Axl hatred in Philly more than the rest of the U.S. I think that hurts with the rock fans that might go just to check out a live band they've never seen before.
but to have approx. 95% of all tickets sold, I think is a success.
#14 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl vs Google/the internet » 478 weeks ago
I'm guessing the number of google searches for "Axl Rose" are WAY up in 2016. he is filling in as front man for one of the biggest bands on the planet. and he has his own huge tour coming up where GnR will be one of the most talked about bands of the summer.
I'm guessing someone pointed out the fact that this photo comes up right away, and that can have a negative impact on image, which can and does affect sales. could be Axl not wanting that image to be the first thing people see (or see at all), but could totally be ACDC's camp, or even the promoters of the GnR tour. basically, anyone with a vested interest in making money off of these bands this year could have pushed for the removal.
I think it's a good move. and for all of those that disagree and are criticizing him for it, we basically have our first "negative" Axl development of 2016. if this is as bad as it gets, i'll take it!
#15 Re: Guns N' Roses » Any Rumors on Opening Acts? » 478 weeks ago
in the last few days there have been a bunch of announcements. now that more bands schedules are finalized, maybe they can lock someone up soon. we're only just over 4 weeks away from the Cincy date.
and there are a few shows in that stretch that are not selling well. I'm hoping they bring in a major act to help move those tix and that they play all 5 shows (including the philly show).
my dream would be Ghost (taking all "major" acts like metallica out of the equation). and their current tour schedule lines up perfectly with the 5 dates between July 6 and July 16. Ghost plays a festival in Finland on July 2, and then plays Heaven and Hell in Mexico on July 23.

i love the album and am glad we got it. there are some classic songs on there.
I think it was influential. have you heard the new RHCP single? reminds me of something that could be on CD. the production seems similar.
I wish things were handled differently and I believe they could have had more success. another album would have been great. but I went to 2 shows in 2011 and everyone of my friends absolutely loved the show (many of whom were skeptical going in). then I went to 2 shows at very small venues in 2012 that were killer. and saw them again in 2014 at another small venue. they were pretty active during those years with tours so there was always something going on.
like I said, a lot of things should have been done differently and they should have been way more active in 2008 -2009 right before and after the album came out.
but we are in an incredible place today. a place I never thought we'd be. couldn't be happier. but just wanted to point out that '09-'14 was not a total waste. I've listened to CD ALOT. and I saw a bunch of killer shows.
hopefully, they put out an album with slash and duff. their catalog is thin as Axl recently alluded to. so hopefully that gives him the push to get it done. gotta have at least one album per decade, right? LOL.
#17 Re: Guns N' Roses » Discussion of Axl's Voice: Only When It Was Funny? » 481 weeks ago
one thing that I believe gets overlooked when talking about Axl's vocals is how "in shape" he is. it's not the only factor, but it's an important one. not that he looked awful in 2001, but he had clearly put on some pounds. when he came back in 2006, you can tell he was focused and had been training. same thing in 2016.
and it's not necessarily how overweight a person is, but if you are doing regular training. aerobic exercise expands the lungs, which is important for good vocals.
I'm guessing Vince Neil hasn't hit a tread mill in 20 years, which is why he cuts every note short at all shows. whereas someone like Bruce Springsteen still sounds great in mid-60s.

rough estimate for Philly is about 5,000 to 6,000 tix remaining, out of a total of roughly 50,000 tix.
however, it's tough to know for sure because within the last day or two, 2 full sections became available. pretty good seats in the first level (about halfway from the stage on both sides).
but it appears ticket continue to sell because there were first level seats available in the corners far from the stage and most of those are now gone. but again, I'm just wondering how accurate that map is since those 2 sections just popped up as available.
but if 5,000 - 6,000 is accurate, they may not sell out but should get pretty damn close.

Voted for . he's so freakin smooth. his is far more interesting. sounds incredible. and I like the original.
(and kudos to axl on the vocals. tough song to sing and in the past he was 100% high pitched. other live recordings of this were cringe worthy. he brought some rasp here and did a great job overall.)

Tix on stub hub have come down nicely the last 2 days. Some good deals on there now and tomorrow could be even better. I finally got my tix. Paid $420 each for 2 tix. For the last 2 days, whenever pit tix were listed for around $450 or less, they got gobbled up pretty fast. I'm happy with the price and am freakin psyched to be in the pit.
Playing poker at mgm right now and probably heading over to nyny at 10.
Been waiting for this for what feels like forever. So pumped for this show!!!
