My point is: things are happening more now, not less. It's not the usual set of circumstances for an album release. Everyting up until this point has been unprecedented. I'm not willing to apply the "usual" outcomes to anything regarding Chinese Democracy.

Not just Axl posting on the forums. This past week I've heard more GNR music on the radio (WAAF, WHJY)...including "Better" & "Chinese Democracy". I've seen the TV ad again, Axl was mentioned on Perez hilton's site (my wife is obsessed with Perez's celebrity gossip. The story alleged that Axl is...afraid of people, and that's why he's out of sight. LOL), and my copy of Guitar World came in the mail yesterday & has an interview with Bumblefoot (including some good GNR talk).

I think there have been some "circumstances beyond their control" with the album's release, but they're working through it. There is definitely something brewing here, or the last week has been a string of coincidences.

Either way, it was a great week to be a Guns N' Roses fan.

Yeah, I think he hit the ball out of the park with these chats/Q&A sessions. Public statements & promotional jaunts can get complicated, and it sounds like the road to releasing Chinese Democracy was hard (it seemed Axl was alluding to that). reaching out to the fanbase like this was a great way to cut through the bull & show that he does in fact give a damn about the album.

Actually, CD comes from a band named after a band whose name everyone knows 20 years later.

Sorry, but there is no way in this day & age that most people don't know about the Axl Rose $13,000,00 album story.

The AFD arguemrnt is flawed, but if you take the name of the band(s) out of it, it has a little weight.

CD could catch on.

Or Axl has just doen that much damage to his & the band's names over the last decade...

I'm not entirely surprised at the sales. I didn't think it would sell 10 million & change the world. I'm disappointed in the lack of promotion. Lackluster 1st week sales could have been avoided...or surpassed...by a media blitz of stories & interviews, TV appearances, or web events.

Axl dropped Chinese Democracy. And by that I don't mean released. He dropped it.

Which is a shame because I really think with some work to fix the perception of him created by delays, no shows, and irrationality...he could have rode this album to commercial & critical success, and been a major player for the next couple of years.

I'm hearing Better every day on WAAF in the afternoon (the Mistress Carrie Show),

Maybe it's a viral campaign? 'Cuz my head & stomach are starting to hurt...

#17 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 863 weeks ago

Nope. I just think he's being "rebellious". I think the Best Buy thing was out of his hands, and he's sulking. He could have gotten that band on someone's talk show. He could have sat down with Rolling Stone last month. The gestation of this album was his wanting things "his way". There were a hundred ways he could look like a conquering hero right now, even if it was just as an "artiste" with a commercial failure on his head. He was calling the shots in this fight. When the bell rang, he ducked out the back.

Love the album. Supported his lineup changes & his new direction. 100% convinced of the musical merit of Chinese Democracy.

Axl is being a bitch right now. Apparently, a lot of us believed in the fight was worth it more than he did.

I wish it weren't that way, but it is. Some fuckin' suit at Universal is not sitting back, and going "hmmm, it did very well in FINLAND"

Hogwash.

Everybody knows Finland controls the US record industry. tongue

The above comment makes more sense as an explanation than anything else said about about the record industry in the last 5 years.

I welcome our Finnish Overlords.

That was an unknown band. Now it's one of the top brands of the music history.

Seriously: Guns hasn't been a "top brand" for a long time. The slide started when the Axl/Slash/Gilby/Duff/Matt/Dizzy lineup was still kickin'.

I worked in the record business at the time. the climate was changing. That lineup was on it's way to a..."more selective" audience anyway. I love this band, I love their music, so please don't misunderstand. noone is on top forever. Bands like Zeppelin end with an event at the top of their commercial reign...and never stain their legacy.

Some bands (the Stones) keep going forever. I love the Stones, and I buy their new records, but they don't sell a fraction of what they used to.

New GNR was never going to have an Aerosmith style comeback. I, however, thought the "new sound" would appeal to a lot of people. I'm okay with being wrong. I'm not okay with the lack of promotion from the people who brought us this record. If you're gonna keep the name, then fight dammit!!! Show me you believe in what you're doing.
