After 20 years it was starting to feel like the band were finally making some progress at being a normal band. Announcing "Absurd" and dropping it only a few hours later, releasing Hard School, releasing Perhaps with an unexpected (and well put together) music video..... things were looking up....... and now it's back to business as usual
I've suspected for many years that it's all intentional. Controversy creates cash as they say. If nothing else GNR have certainly kept the fanbase talking for the last few decades in spite of such little output

A highlight for me was when Izzy joined Twitter a few weeks prior to the first NITL Troubadour gig to let everyone know he wasn't involved. It was hilarious to witness because there was just so much doubt about the accounts authenticity. He posted a GNR cover band video, tweeted one of the guys in Cheap Trick to tell them he'd bought a computer and was now avacado farming, and he took forever to actually prove that he really was Izzy. We had a lot of fun with the memes for a week or two then Izzy finally dropped a cover video (and his choice of song was superb ).
Since then he's only tweeted once or twice per year to wish everyone a happy holidays and say thanks for birthday messages, and he deleted all his old tweets. Wish he'd stuck with the idea of covering songs on Youtube (he's since deleted those videos too lol)

Back in 2012 my granddad asked if I could use the internet to find him a song from his younger days that he hadn't been able to find a recording of on CD locally. The song was called "Wishing It Was You" by an artist called Connie Francis (I'd never heard of her). I spent hours trawling the internet but couldn't find it, so I reached out to the owner of the only Connie Francis fansite I could find to see if they could help, and a few weeks later they replied with an mp3 of the song attached. My granddad was delighted when I gave him the CD.
I lost my granddad 2 years ago and was thinking about the above story earlier today for some reason. I still have the mp3 in my email and was going to upload it to Youtube to share it with you all, but the internet in 2023 is much different than it was back then. It's obviously already on Youtube these days, but I was kinda shocked to see that it has been viewed over 10 million times
Been reading up on Connie Francis and listening to her other music, her Wiki page is pretty interesting, definitely paid her dues

Awesome! Thanks for sharing BLS
Hopefully the General isn't a track we've already heard from the locker leaks just given a new name

Removed that negative karma for you Mister. Are people still getting these spam DM's? I've never received one so wasn't aware it was happening. I could probably prevent that by having a minimum post count in order to send DMs, I'll take a look this weekend

I just looked her up...was gonna check the film she did before this (Cruel Intentions). How in the fuck is she worth 400 million?!? I see she became a producer in the 2010s...I assume a lot of it is from that. I know she was popular in the 2000s obviously...but that's like Jodie Foster- Julia Roberts level.
Cruel Intentions was watched many times in my house as a young horny teenager I'm tempted to go watch it again now lol.
I'm not surprised Reese is worth $400m to be honest, though not sure how accurate these internet "net worth" posts actually are? I can think of plenty of big movies she's been in without even needing to Google it - #1 being Legally Blonde (and its sequels), Sweet Home Alabama, Walk The Line, Little Nicky, obv Cruel Intentions and Election too. I seem to remember she was also a guest on Friends as well? I think she's a decent actress, enjoyed just about everything I've seen her in tbh
Latest movie I watched was "Underwater". I watched it once before and enjoyed it so thought I'd give it another watch. Has that "Alien" vibe y'know? Kristen Stewart even looks like Ripley in Alien 3 with the shaved hair. Wouldn't surprise me if she's worth $400m too, she's been in tons of movies and again I seem to recall enjoying the majority of them.

[Songs Izzy may have brought in]
Ocean (the song was later changed drastically and became Underground and Shall Walk on River)
"There was a song that incorporated reggae in your previous work, did your tastes change?"
Izzy: "There were about two reggae-ish songs. One is called "Ocean". Even though I didn't get into it this time, I still like Bob Marley, and I'm not tired of it. When I was working on "Ocean" I changed the atmosphere and did a Black Sabbath-esque arrangement and had Slash play the guitar. But it's too dark and inconsistent. I recorded it but never finished it."
Ocean originates from the Ju Ju Hounds days but there is apparently a version with Slash on it
Screenshot above was shared by TomokoStradlin on Twitter. They share loads of Izzy stuff from Japan (pics/interviews/etc) so worth a follow

Stones do something a bit similar to this too.... it's called "Lucky Dip". Random poor fans buying "cheap" seats will instead get something near the front for the same price.
Can confirm that this model works too. Had a buddy reach out a few years ago asking if I wanted to go see the Stones since it was only £40 for a lucky dip ticket. I jumped on that deal but doubt I would have if it were full price as I wasn't that bothered about going, especially with all the other expenses like train tickets, hotels, time off work etc.
Ended up having a great night and even got to see Richard Ashcroft (The Verve) open for them too which was amazing - I think they'd finally just put that whole Bittersweet Symphony royalties issue behind them at the time.
Edit to add: I wasn't near the front, I was seated at the back of the arena/stadium, but yeh it is lucky dip so we could have been randomly given seats anywhere.

My favorite part though is how they just kill off Hicks and Newt in the opening credits. Cameron knows entertainment but it was a really dumb idea to include a child and a love interest in a horror franchise. They had to go and I love how ruthless they are about it. Adds to the movie and the franchise as a whole. It's a serious business and there aren't any happy endings.
I love this response! It's definitely a trigger in the fanbase still to this day. Im subbed to the subreddit /r/LV426 and just the other day there was a topic moaning about Hicks/Newts deaths which had over 300 replies, the majority of replies were also people complaining Crazy that in 2022 so many people still care, shows how much they loved Aliens really.
I like Alien 3 too, certainly much more today thanks to the Directors Cut. My main gripe is just with the quality of the CGI/green screen, it just looks so bad in places, but it doesn't ruin the film at all for me. I love how dark the movie is, goes back to it's origins almost, removing all weapons, killing off not only Hicks and Newt but also Ripleys new love interest just as she starts to get close, and finishing it off with Ripley fucking over the company by killing herself in a pretty badass way.
I'd probably rank them as:
Alien
Prometheus
Alien 3
Aliens
Alien Resurrection
Covenant
Even Resurrection at 5th on my list I really enjoy the movie. I just need a version with some of the cheesy dialog cut as I think it takes me out of having any sense of fear when theres too many one-liners. A lot of folk hate the baby Alien at the end, but I think it looks pretty fuckin hideous and I'd be terrified seeing that thing in real life - which is kind of the point for me.
