There's no reason to even bother letting it surface now.

What if the song has been dramatically changed for official release? Some of us who've been waiting 20 years to hear this thing may be curious about its evolution. That's not necessarily a reason for the caretaker of the clip to let it surface, but it's a pretty good one for me.

Man if the screaming part is the chorus then he's really gonna struggle to pull that off live.

14 No doubt! Actually, I figure that screaming part to fit into the song kinda like the screaming part from Better (I never wanted you to be so full of anger....).  And there's no telling exactly what happens after that.

I must hand it to you hearing all that from the party leak. I can't hear a single word in there. It could just as easily be someone watching the Lion King with a washing machine in the background as that.

Don't feel bad about not hearing a single word on the party leak. When I first received the cellphone clip, I'm pretty sure that at least 6 other GNR superfans already had it. How shitty is that clip? Zero of those 6 superfans had any clue what the song was. None could make out a single word. None had identified the familiar orchestration. And as far as I could tell, none of the six were even 100% certain it was GNR - well, except maybe the guy who recorded it.

So, don't be surprised if none of the words Shacklermyrye posted above are correct - neither his nor mine. We were just doing the best we could with what we had.

Edit to add: The second chorus is NOT part of the clip. The party clip abruptly ends at the end of the screaming part, and I came to the conclusion that there MUST be another chorus that follows. Hell, it may not even be the chorus. For all I know, the screaming part is the chorus.

I'm not Mike, but I loved Prostitute too. Lived up to the hype, in my opinion. The CD track that didn't meet my ludicrous expectations was This I Love. Nobody's fault but my own.

I also kind of agree with everyone who has speculated that The General won't "live up to" the legend it has become. Should still be great though. Hopefully Slash replaced the Finck solo with something that'll remind us how great he can be.

It's garbage.

He does deserve brownie points for going the extra mile to make it seem real.

Just checking in to see who gets the brownie points - is it the guy whose clip was ruined or the guy who ruined it?

Also, why did you torture yourself by listening to that shit 15 times in a loop?

It's good to see you again.

Brownie points for the low quality. That was a pattern during recent leaks...shit quality clips/songs before the regular ones are leaked. It made it seem more legit.

While I heard a bunch of your stuff back in the day, I don't think I ever heard this infamous version of The General everyone talks about.

I listened on a loop to see if I could pick up on the vocals/lyrics...and yes it was awful. I played it really loud too. My neighbors probably think I'm even crazier than they did before yesterday.

James, I have nothing but respect for you (and quite a few other regular posters on this board). So, I guess in an attempt to not lose any respect FROM you, I just wanted you to know that zero of the vocals in that clip you listened to 15 times were from me. Somebody recorded their own 'vocals' over a section of my work that had no vocals at all (guitar solo).
If you want my original garbage, just ask. Isolated stems available. Whatever it takes for brownie points.

The link you posted....while it does sound good....might be the best AI Axl yet...is similar to the CCR song.

The rate at which these are improving... actually has me worried that deep fakes etc. could become a problem sooner than we think. Already imagining the shit that could get pulled in 2024 with this tech...

That is some mind-blowing stuff. Wow.

Wow, this one is awesome!! Kinda doubt it being The General though. the cellphone clip a few years ago sounded very different.

But imagine this monster here with an Axl on fire-vocals...

I highly, highly doubt this has anything to do with The General. Tempo is 120 vs 66.5. Key - at least for the riff parts - is C# minor. The G, if memory serves, is for the most part D major (don't quote me). GNR isn't afraid of changing keys during songs, but those two factors combined should be pretty good indicators that they aren't one in the same.

well... the timing is weird, because that Jaguares song was released on an album in 2008 already. so 2010 is way too off.

Also I'm pretty sure that the jam the guys played before Madagascar was just... Madagascar. It's the same chord sequence.

You may be right. I'm not in a position to take a closer look at the notes, but I would swear though that the slow beat of this pre-Maddy instrumental is a near match to what we call The General. Maddy's tempo is around 20% faster, I think. What is the key here? Maddy is A-minor, If I remember right.

I don't have The G in A lol but I suppose I could be wrong about one or the other. It wouldn't be the first time.

"Oooohh Hoooo, just another love stripped away"

thanks brother 9

your thoughts on this version of the song?

You're welcome! My guess is that this demo was highly unfinished, and tossed together for the sole purpose of getting BBF to record some rhythms and licks. The vocals sound very cut and pasted - timed poorly - and I miss the chorus (which my old version has some of the lyrics wrong). I love the Bucket kill switch thing, and I sorely miss the guy. Saw Bucket live last week and it was mind-blowing.

Sadly, I don't think we'll ever hear a finished version of this track, but I would LOVE to hear a completed Axl/Slash/Duff version with the chorus restored.

Elevendayempire.....Definitely, 100% guaranteed, "stripped".
