In reality they had 1 album worth. They spent years overproducing that material and replacing good songs with weaker ones.

Whatever they had in 2000 was ready to go and would have been the best version of CD they could have put out. Would have saved everybody time, money and headaches. The label is to blame for that, but also Axl for trying to continue GN'R with only himself as the member. Where he got the idea that Guns was his own personal project is a mystery. It's interesting how feminine his personality is. Incapable of accountability, throws tantrums to get his way. Makes terrible decisions. Gets led by the nose by mediocrites and simpletons. Constantly rejects sound advice from real professionals.

Perhaps not an actual album was ready, but the band seems to have had a ton of creativity back then. They could probably have whipped up something fairly quickly. Even Axl was prolific in the late 90s.

Bands have their time. When you get past 40 things start to dry up. This is why that period was so critical. The last 20 years have not really been wasted. Nostalgia tours are the name of the game for old artists. Even if there is an album it will tend to be weak stuff. At this point I don't really care what they do.

It's over now. CD leftovers was the last juice in the carton. We should have gotten that 1996 album.

Even the titles get worse over time. Boston Third Stage should have been a lesson to all these bands.

That's a good point. Axl might get inspired by something and write more than one song revolving around a similar theme. They might call them both something like Elvis tentatively then later they settle for something else, or not.

I still wonder why songs like State of Grace, Circus Maximus or Quicksong never became anything. They sound so much better than some of the other stuff to my ears.

This stage in the band's career feels so anemic compared to 20 or 10 years ago. They got old, the culture changed, the world passed by. It's like when they ask Frank Sheeran "who are you protecting? everybody is dead". Leaks at this point simply doesn't matter anymore. A handful of fans still care, but even they don't care all that much. It's depressing but that's the way of things.

I feel the same applies to fans in general. There is no life to it anymore. Just an old memory you can't quite let go, but you know it is simply over and never coming back.

RIP to the person Doug Goldstein.

The circus factor of the 2002 band could have worked. It clearly separated old from new. In contrast the 2012 band just looked like a pale version of the old band.

But Axl going for a new look was a mistake. He should have concentrated on looking like he did in the 90s, to create a strong impression of continuity. On the other hand I don't want to be too harsh because the record company really made things difficult for him when they refused to release the album. He spent years building GNR back up from scratch and put a lot of soul and heart into it then he just gets cock blocked by the suits at Interscope. Must have been embarrassing.

He made a last push for it in 2006, then after CD was released he just gave up. No more ambitions. Just a nostalgia band, and that's when the reunion started looking like a better deal.

Pulling songs from a studio recording because he's not happy with his voice while doing a world tour sounding like a cat is just so Axl Rose. Going low register where he is still strong would be a very obvious choice, and also dropping some of the harder cuts even though they are hits would be totally doable. Alas...
