Its not like they are going to remove him from future liner notes on any releases.
Had a chance to come back for chump change.
The point is that it was offered and it was declined. Its not like he's spending his time in a back alley in downton Compton begging for change.
Izzy has made more on royalties this year than the salaries of the current touring members combined.
I'm not fond of that low ball offer either but when you take Izzy's history into consideration, was it really surprising? I don't really like how some fans consider Izzy a total flake but there is fire under that smoke. He bailed on the biggest tour in the band's history with practically no warning. He wouldn't show up for promo shoots and videos.
GNR are on the biggest tour they've ever done. No videos or promo shoots yet(well, one) but do you think they were willing to risk it all just to include him?
Izzy is older, more mature, etc. and might be able to pull it off easily. We and they have no idea if that's really possible. Check out his solo career and his lack of touring.
Not like it has mattered for this tour. Everyone is silent with the media. They're making hundreds of millions on this tour and many of the songs would not exist without him. They could have given him a more reasonable offer. In light of the fact he quit in the middle of UYI Tour, I think it's fair to hold it against him...but only to an extent. The offer they gave him is more along the lines of a hired hand like Fortus.

Truly bizarre seeing them pretend Izzy wasn't a major factor.

I can totally understand why you feel this way. I used to feel the same. Then, a few years ago, a good friend of mine killed himself. He was married, had three young children and was a respected, successful doctor. He was down-to-earth, witty as shit, modest, thoughtful. One of a kind. Just a very cool dude. He was also a recovering alcoholic. In fact, we met in an outpatient program and got each other through some pretty tough times. There was not a selfish bone in his body and I know he loved his children immensely. I will ever accept that he was only thinking of himself when he took his own life. It just wasn't in his nature.
I think it's important to understand that when people get to the point where they're ready to chose death over life, they are no longer thinking rationally. They no longer have a realistic view of their place in this world. They don't comprehend what they mean to others nor do they realize the tremendous impact their death will have on those who care about them. They have lost all feelings of self-worth. I think, often, they truly feel they are doing their loved ones a favor by relieving them of a burden.
It's hard to understand why any loving parent would chose to leave their children. I get that. I really do. I don't condone suicide nor do I think it's the right choice. I just don't necessarily see it as a selfish act when someone decides it's their only choice.
Agreed. Depression is one fucked up mental illness. The person is in a very bizarre state of mind. Like you mentioned, they think they are a burden on family and friends. They believe killing themselves will remove that burden from their loved ones. Fucked up place for the human mind to go.

The news about Cornell is just another reminder how much of a miracle it is the Appetite 5 are all still alive. Drug overdoses, depression, liquor poisoning, concert riots...they've been through hell in their careers. One wonders if they can ever set aside the business bullshit for a real reunion.

Shitty news. RIP to one of the greats.

In their defense, System Of A Down refused to get off stage and ate significantly into GNRs time, which I remember clearly, really pissed me off. Once they did get off, there was a monsoon and rumors said the show would be canceled but ended up delaying the equipment switch.
The weather was horrible. Not surprised the show ended up a mess.

I can`t speak for others of course but watching Axl belt out covers does n`t excite me, not even one bit.
Dude has a rare gift, he`s one of the most talented individuals in the music business, many would kill to have half of his talent.
Yet, what does he do with it ? he squanders it singing some bullshit "Big Shot". He wastes sweet fucking time, he should be using to make his own music, on guest spots....
You can look at Axl as one of the biggest wastes of talent in the history of music...or you can look at the other side of it and feel lucky we ever got anything out of the guy. Considering his problems growing up and mental issues, it's sort of a miracle he didn't end up in permanent jail or dead before he ever recorded any song.
Either interpretation is correct. He is a big waste of talent, no doubt. But we're also lucky to have anything featuring his vocal talent. Could have just been a total washout given his personal baggage as a young person.

Yea sleeping on a pile of money must really hurt your back. My heart bleeds.
Hahah yeah!
I think it's rougher for mid level bands. Years ago I remember sebastian bach posting about how he gets lonely on the road - like he loves that people cheer the shows but cos he's famous and they're not they're not real friends just like fans, then you go back to the hotel and you're hyped up from the show and there's nothing to do and you're all alone, so you go to the bar downstairs and have a beer or two...then you do that daily....next thing you know you're a drunk. I can see how even though that beats my job it would get old.
Then again I think the GNR style would be much more fun. Enough money to bring your mates and hangers on - and massages/chefs or whatever the fuck you wanna bring to ease the pain lol...then its first class all the way around the world only working every few days....looks nice.
I'd love to see the merch numbers too. Would be insane.
"Mid level band" is probably a generous label for Sebastian Bach or Skid Row these days. They are both bowling alley type acts now. But yeah, I would guess it's not that great of a life for the bands who aren't at the superstar level.
It's pretty amazing that Axl did everything he could to fuck up the GN'R brand, but it's still a stadium act with Slash involved. People want to see the two of them on that stage together, plain and simple. It's really the last big reunion that anyone gives a shit about at this point, probably because rock and roll itself pretty much died in the mid-1990's when pop and rap took over.

Is it wrong that I don't give a fuck at this point? If we ever get some new music, okay cool. If not, okay cool. The old music is legendary. Not like they can ever match the quality or staying power of the stuff they created in their 20's.
