I'm surprised Metallica are being tipped as headliners, surely it would be Led Zep headlining?
#1852 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rolling Stone (50 Best Songs Over 7 Minutes Long) » 916 weeks ago
I thought they'd have gone with NR given it's the big hit of the +7 minute songs GNR recorded. I like Estranged more than you do though CC, so I can live with seeing it beat the other songs to the list

Looks like Axl and the record company are slogging it out then, with the album only being handed in if x,y,z are agreed.
That might take a week or might take a year

Should we ever get a firm release date I think a lot fo that interest will return. The media doesn't mention it or apparently care because they've nothing left to say about it, any comments they had to make on Axl or CD they made in 99 then in 02 and then in 06, they can't repeat the CD story every other issue. As far as the media are concerned there's nothing really to care about because nothing new has happened and until it does they'd just be rehashing very old news.
As for album sales like many have said it won't break any records becuse we're no longer in an era where albums sell in the many millions. Nor is Axl some iconic rock god to the kids but that doesn't neccessarily matter. I can't speak for any other countries but when The Eagles album came out recently it debuted at number 1 and is still at number 5 in the charts 5 weeks after release with practically no promotion. A few adverts in magazines and that's about all I saw, there was no single on national radio and if there was it got little to no airplay. The kids aren't buying that but yet it's selling well. With CD factor in a good single (hopefully), the right promotion and the fact that it's GNR's 'comeback album' etc and I think CD has a fair shot at claiming a high chart place.
The Eagles had a single on VH1's countdown. I don't care enough to see if they have one on Billboard and since Bo Bice was number 1 on VH1 this week, I've lost all respect for that countdown. Maybe someone will care enough to look it up.
I'd venture a guess that the Eagles have more fans that would buy conventional CD releases than Guns N' Roses does due to the age difference. There are far more 30 year olds running around with mp3 players than 45 year olds. Add to that the successes most of them had on their own and I'd say that they would easily outsell anything Axl could release at this point after the first week or so. CD could peak high initially, but it will have no staying power without a monster single prior to release.
Yeah fair points, The Eagles may have had a single I wasn't sure, point was you have to hunt to hear it in the UK, it's not like it was everywhere.
Your right about the single though for CD though, it does need a good one, but more broadly it has to be a good album. All the promo in the world won't save a shit album, if it has some great tracks on it it will do well however long the wait or however much people dislike Axl. A good single will fair it well at the start but it will drop rapidly if it's got 12 other bland songs, if it's got 5 or 6 songs on it that really could be successful singles with the rest being solid tracks then it will last a lot longer.
I think the albums success hinges much more on how good it is than the wait we've endured to it.

I once nearly got kicked out of school for mistaken drug possession. I'd been at a joke shop over the weekend and bought some lame trick stuff and one of the things I'd bought was this stuff called love potion, you dropped it in a drink of someone and they'd become all loved up, or so it said on the packet. It was obviously total crap and had nothing in it to either harm anyone or cause someone to fall in love, it was a kids joke. However it was a white powder and came in small clear bag, and a teacher saw me with it, they threatened all sorts, police and everything. It took quite a lot of convincing for them to believe that it was nothing more than probably baking soda in a little bag.

That solo album could send his career into the stratosphere. He isn't going to risk fucking that up just for a huge paycheck for nostalgia.
If either of those was to put Slash into the stratosphere it would be a GNR reunion without a doubt. Sure a new solo album will further his career etc but compared to a GNR reunion it would be nothing. If GNR ever reunite Slash would be everywhere, tv, magazines, radio, you name it and he'd be playing to 70,000+ people a night. No way a solo album (however good it might be) would get him that kind of exposure imo.
I guess I'd just written off seeing CD this year around summer time so now we're here at the end of the year I'm not even slightly surprised or dissappointed as I've kind of expected a baron 07 for about 6 months. Considering Axl's letter last year and that the last official album update was back in Feb, I do think we're owed an update as to what's happening, as far as the official website is concerned the album is now in it's 8th month of mixing
I am optimistic for an 08 release however because as so many have said it can't go on much longer, it either gets released or someone breaks and things are as good as over. If the tidbits from Baz etc are true however (and I think they are) then 08 should almost certainly be the year the album comes out (heard it all before I know, I know). So for that reason I'm optimistic for the prospects of seeing CD in 08....for now anyway.

Yeah, thats a huge missed opportunity, but its par for the GNR course.
I highly doubt it comes out in Feb like many are speculating. U2 and Metallica have releases coming in early 08. While GNR could compete with Metallica, U2 would blow CD right out of the water. Also REM and a few others have albums coming in early 08.
Put your summer hats on. Have a fall hat on standby.
Its a never ending cycle.
Yep, you can throw Greenday into the mixing pot as well, their new album is supposedly out in 08 and will almost certainly chart at number 1 whenever it's released.

Barely anyone knows about WTC7, I'm guessing worldwide because it's not something anyone in this country really knows about either. I was only aware of it because of the thread that existed on this subject back on the old site. Is it part of a coverup or just so irrelevant compared to the rest of the days events that media don't bother to menton it? I've no idea.

way to go GnR fans....drive another person insane by bombarding them with questions
anyway, i thinks its safe to say that Axl had a revelation that he needed Harp for this tune, and Pittman said, hey i know this chick, and al said bring her in
she went in listened to the track and prolly spent a couple days recording various differnet parts, Axl paid her and end of story....hell i bet that she doesnt even know what part of her recording sessions will actually make the final project.
leave the poor woman alone she doesnt know anything more than she has already said
I know, how many more times can the woman reword the same sentence, bet she's regretting playing on the song now nobody warned her an army of loons would stalk her to insanity the second it got out she'd played on CD.
