Oh I see you were going for the old "this isn't the real guns n roses" debate? I think I missed that earlier smile

I agree that the producers wont stop making them as long as people will continue tuning in. My question(and I've wondered this for years) is what causes people to tune in in the first place?

Considering how low these shows are willing to go, how much lower can it possibly get until our society has said enough is enough? Admitting its fake doesn't cause society to blink an eye, so what will? Death, or will that just make them tune in even more?

Like I said in my earlier post, there needs to be a national debate about this genre and why its so appealing to people.

I guess the reason people tune in is simply out of interest. The opening show of a new reality series always has the highest viewing figures simply because people want to see who will be occupying the tv channel for the next few months. Women are stereotypically more interested in "the celeb lifestyle"and will want to tune in so they can discuss with friends who these new "celebrities" are. Most guys don't mind watching it providing there are a couple of hot women to ogle at.

If on the opening night everyone who tunes in finds something worth watching (be it some hot chick, possibility of huge arguments erupting etc) they will tune in again. To keep people watching the show, aswell as talking about it, they just edit footage to there needs. If the footage isn't up to scratch they pull stunts like removing alcohol from the house to ensure they have something worthwhile showing.  If they get footage of a ten second argument they turn it into a trailer inviting people to tune in for the "full argument",  each continuing episode leads nicely into the other with storylines from previous years rehashed into it and passed off as a fresh idea.

Sorry I'm babbling now, but this shit really pisses me off too 14

I have to agree on this one, though my girlfriend certainly wouldnt. She watches all the crappy reality shows one after another. I've never understood why people tune in daily to watch someone else live their life.

"Big Brother" made a fatal mistake last summer and I finally thought that would see the end of the show. It didn't of course, the 50,000 complaints about Jade Goodys comments weren't enough to have the show axed. Quite the opposite, Big Brother received worldwide press coverage and the show continued on its merry way ~ promising fame and delivering sweet f.a.

If people are foolish enough to take the bait and actually spend money voting on one of these shows then why would the TV company stop producing them? I know I wouldn't, I'd make more and more crap TV shows providing it kept my pool heated during the winter 14

I loved dinosaurs as a kid. I'm still interested in them to this day to a certain extent ~ whenever I'm in London I make sure I get to the National History Museum to view the dinosaur exhibits on display etc.

Thanks for the information, and your theory behind the song smile I think the interview you're referring to was the VMA's 02 after-show interview with Kurt Loder. He talked about replacing everyone on the crew etc.

I have some vague idea that Madagascar was a real life event or place of some kind but really know nothing at all on the term "Madagascar". Can anyone provide some kind of info on it, as until I hear differently I'm always going to believe the lyrics of the song are written about the old band.

This may be a re-hashed subject but it's one I've never got into before and the song has really grown on me recently so fancy discussing it.

I won't go into all of the references I've noticed now ; you'll probably all bash me and tell me it's got nothing to do with the old lineup lol.

Since DTJ already said No.3 was Meet The Parents Im going to guess that Curro entered the wrong number. I'll hazard a guess then that No #2 is infact Terms Of Endearment?

Downliner, I think most people in the industry look at the vma performance as sort of a bizarre incident....and many a great artist has had one of those. Axl redeemed himself with the 2006 tour in that he got very good reviews and just simply looked alot better. For God's sake, the VMA's were 5 years ago....time for everyone to let that 10 minute performance go. Ultimately, Axl's legend outside of 87-93 is now going to depend on Chinese. His real comeback, I hope, is yet to come. Whether it is Chinese or a reunion or whatever....

Dont get me wrong I'm not anti-new gnr, nor do I personally think the VMA performance was that bad. I intended to word my response more like James just did with "in retrospect it is seen as a fiasco because nothing came of it".

If Axl was prepared to perform on the VMA's, especially considering how unprepared he seemed to be on the night, he should have at least had the balls to follow through with Chinese Democracy. If that wasn't a possibility at the time he should have just stayed away from the VMA's in the first place.

After all these years of waiting I guess it just frustrates me that so many chances have been passed up, and the fans rarely offered any explanation as to why smile

Is there also an option were you can only see replies to threads you've posted in not along with new threads aswell?

I'll look into this and if I can find a solution I'll propose it to DTJ/James for approval smile

Anyone else who would like to chip in ideas just post them here. I'll go through them all and work out which ones are possible to do and then forward the ideas onto James/DTJ for approval cool
