#171 Re: Guns N' Roses » BRIAN JOHNSON: 'I Had A Great Run' With AC/DC » 424 weeks ago
Was anyone under the impression his run wasn’t over?
Depends, I always got the feeling there was more to it than just the hearing thing (although based off his last few shows it was clearly an issue). Rumour has it that they all made peace at Malcolms funeral. If his hearing was something that could be fixed to a degree he could tour again and they were back on good terms then there was a slim chance of a return.
I’m cool with Axl/DC providing it doesnt obstruct GNR.

Saw The Revanent the other day. Absorbing but heavy going at the same time. I enjoyed it but I don’t think I’ll ever get the urge to watch it again.

Most things can be used as a weapon if someone wants to do harm, knives, cars etc. The difference is they serve other purposes, guns exist purely to kill people.
I do think this is a two branched argument though. It’s perfectly valid to debate the merits of gun control but equally why, when and how did mass shootings/killings especially schools become the outlet of choice for the unstable and disillusioned American? Sure mass attacks happen elsewhere but they are typically rare, certainly in western society. Yet the states has had nearly 20 so far this year. Removing the appeal or glamour of commiting such a crime and working out why it is becoming a cultural norm is as important as gun control imo.
Both need to looking at if you are to reduce these types of incidents.

How many of that remaining 99% are gang related type shootings?
Gang members duking it out doesn’t worry people because the chances of an innocent person (or multiple people) being killed are low. It’s that 100-200 per year in schools or a mall or a concert that’s the difference between shrugs of indifference and public outcry over guns.

^ Unless the loon owned the gun in the first place.
If chips in guns are possible it may also be possible to have tech that would communicate with the chips that would disable the guns in certain areas ie schools.

Every news blurb on Axl Rose says he'll be recording with AC/DC this year.
Because an AC/DC biographer tweeted saying that was happening and everyone has picked up on it. However there is a question over how ‘in the know’ this guy is as his biography on AC/DC is very low on detail particularly the bands recent years. He may know something but it’s not a certainty. Angus keeps his cards close to his chest, spilling the beans to a guy who guys running straight to twitter doesn’t sound likely.

My hope is perhaps a single on radio to support the summer shows. If they are in the studio at the minute then that would be entirely possible. Then maybe finish up in the autumn for an album release in winter/spring.
Depends on if the rumours are correct really. If they are in the studio now or imminently then the above is possible if not then I’d say 2019 is the absolute earliest we’d see something new, if at all.

Even if that's true though - 2006 GNR played almost solid AFD songs most shows and only like 2 forthcoming CD tracks....so it still led to more WTF moments in 2006. I do have a soft spot for Axl of that era though - total badass.
Axl in 06 was killer. There was a hunger about him that I don’t think we’d seen before (at least in the post Slash era) or since. He seemed like he had something to prove in 06 and there was still an element of danger about him. He seems content and happy and enjoying it now he has Slash and Duff back but the drive and hunger is less evident now (and non existant 09-14).
Agree on the assessment of the 06 tour as well. I think even then James labelled 06 as AFD rehash. GNR shows have been largely based on nostalgia for the best part of 2 decades. Now that Slash and Duff are back nostalgia’s suddenly a problem and a stick to beat them with? I’d take the current form over the ‘dangling a carrot of new material and progress meanwhile playing 85% old songs with inferior players world tour part VII’ any day of the week.

Hmmm maybe. Although as you say the recent touring comment I don’t think really applies (based off a quick google).
Also would Pumpkins be described as permanent A list? Not sure they would.
