#1661 Re: The Sunset Strip » QUEEN Discussion » 768 weeks ago
I really feel they need a Rick Rubin in the booth. Someone who'll say, "These songs aren't good enough, write better ones." And get Grohl to co-write a couple of rockers, they need someone with real rock credibility on board.
Also, fuck the diehard fans. I'm resigned to Brian and Roger whoring out the Queen name with musicals etc, and if they're going to do that I'd rather they did it in the form of a tour and album with a young, hungry, talented singer than fucking around with musicals and trotting out the same three songs at awards shows. Better Lambert - who actually shares Freddie's vocal talents and aesthetic sensibilities - than tired old Paul Rogers, too. I'm actually excited about Queen for the first time in years, now.

Aaaand it's happening: Lambert's fronting Queen for Sonisphere:

Ballsy move, playing Knebworth. This is clearly a trial run for a tour; I only hope that they come up with a new album (and for Christ's sake get some help with the songwriting).

Hey all,
Does anyone have the video of Ron's first performance of Don't Cry? Think it was in Spain(?) – he only does one verse and the chorus...

Hmm. After being burned last time (went over to Ireland, left after the first few songs when it looked like they weren't coming back to the stage and the crowd was getting rowdy) I think I'll wait for some UK dates...

No no no ...just a special anniversary edition of the original. Remastered with bonus tracks and the original artwork. Don't fucking touch anything with the recordings. You could do this AND put out a new band album. Ride the wave....
Yeah, I could see that working. That or the two-disc Greatest Hits that he wanted to release a couple of years ago.
Or, hell, do a whole series of remasters, kicking off with AFD. You could stick Cornshucker on Lies as a bonus track, for instance.

It's a really good show – nice to see that GN'R has finally – finally! – hired some cameramen to do the pro-shot who know where to point the fucking cameras during each guitar solo.
Axl seems on form, the band seems tight, I can't wait for them to bring this show to the UK with Civil War and Estranged...

Out of interest, would people be interested in a Duff/Izzy/Matt lineup with a new guitarist and singer? Just curious. After all, Izzy was the songwriting powerhouse in the band, and with the best will in the world there are other lead guitarists who can do what Slash does. Navarro has enough stage presence to handle the role, for instance.
Actually, the more I think about it the more I'd like to hear that band. Navarro would bring more of a funky vibe, which Duff could probably work with (think Rocket Queen), Izzy could rattle off some decent songs and provide his awesome rhythm chops, and... let's say Corey Taylor on vocals, for the sake of argument. Or, hell, Scott Weiland.

Personally I think Duff and Matt should tell Slash to go hang. Get Corey in on vocals, he's a big enough draw, and get Navarro (or Ashba
) in on guitar.
I'd be more interested in seeing VR minus Slash but with Corey on vocals than I would be in seeing Myles butcher the GN'R songs with Slash.

DJ and Ron. They're like a pair of puppies.
No, not THAT kind.
