really really like the song. i get chills at the part where axl sings "i told you when i found you/ if there were doubts you/ should be careful and not afraid/ now they surround you/ (cant make out the lyrics exactly"
somebody said something about the haunting parts of this song and that really described this part perfectly for me.
if i were to look for a weakness, it would be the solos. they start off really strong but dont really have much of a direction.
I really have a lot of hope for these songs on the album. Songs like Chinese Democracy, Rhiad and the Bedouins, and IRS have all been juiced up for the better with new solos since we were first exposed to them. I wouldnt be surprised if anything else has changed for the better since these demos.

i'm pretty sure that in the untitled track axl sings "up and away is what i've got to do"
it sounds like it to me, and i kind of thought it coincided well with the guitar lick behind it.

more details about the track:
- I was told by a producer that the song starts out "in a really low register, really different than I've ever heard him sing in. I was almost wondering if it was actually Axl, but then he breaks into the familiar high voice and I knew it was him."
- Said it sounds "almost like something Marilyn Manson would produce"
- Said it's actually pretty poppy despite the industrial sound, and you'll catch yourself humming it after it's done. Said there's a crazy solo in the middle that's really fun to play in the game.
This is starting to sound more and more like Better.
not even close.
-a low register? better starts in the highest of high registers, so scratch that.
-marilyn manson? tough time there. maybe because its effect-y
ok so better is poppy and has a solo in the middle. big deal. gunsnroses.com has already acknowledged that "better" is the title of the song.

The truth about 'Better'
By Doug Miller / GunsNRoses.com
The song "Better" has been receiving airplay across the country, but there is no official single release. No one seems to know where the song came from or how it got out. Did Guns N' Roses purposely leak the track?
"Here's what I know," keyboardist Dizzy Reed explains to GunsNRoses.com. "We were doing a commercial with Harley-Davidson. Harley was going to do a version using 'Paradise City' and another version using 'Better.' Their Web site even had a version up for like one day with 'Better,' but the version of 'Better' that they had was an unfinished, unapproved demo. That's why it was removed. The version that's getting airplay is that same demo.
"Our understanding of how that happened is that an experimental edit using 'Better' in place of 'Paradise City' was somehow accidentally mislabeled as the 'Paradise City' Harley-Davidson video/commercial and was inadvertently released on the internet. We believe the 'leak' came from this source tape and someone with access to it.
"For the record, absolutely none of the songs that have been leaked have come from the band or our organization. None of the songs that have been leaked are anything more than demo versions, works in progress. No final mixes.
"It's really frustrating working on something as hard as we have and then having it wind up on the Internet before it's finished. Hearing a demo on the radio really sucks."

James i know what you mean but i suppose what I am saying it needs to mesh better. i dont think the recordings do the parts justice, and i dont think axl's voice does them that much justice either.
that being said, wear axl appears to have the most trouble is in his middle octave. he has no trouble hitting the screeching high notes, and i would wager to say he does it as good as in his heyday. the low melody he sings on song number 2 (blur anyone?) is great as well. Everything in between these two octaves has no bite to it. I have no doubt that if these have been re-recorded, this problem is fixed, as evidenced by his voice on better and the live shows.

wow havent seen you guys in a while. hey james nice forum.
instead of writing a 5 paragraph essay on the songs, i will keep it to one. the feeling that i get out of these songs is that they are on the track to greatness. that being said, they still have quite a ways to go for greatness. what i am getting at is that the basic framework is there, it just needs to be polished and tweaked until they reach their full potential (wow that sentence sounded like something axl must have been saying to himself for the past decade). i believe these are clearly demos, which gives me great hope for their final versions.
