It wouldn't get radio play even with safer lyrics.

Radio is irrelevant now....and most Rock stations don't play new material from these types of bands anymore and hasn't for years.

They don't play Doom and Gloom...they play Start Me Up. They don't play Hardwired...they play Enter Sandman. They don't play Absurd...they play Jungle.

It's all about the internet now.

Thats not entirely true. My local rock station played and still plays the fuck outta the hard wired singles. Doom and gloom was heavy rotation when it released. If the song is good and radio friendly it will get played. Absurd isn't that song. Hardschool will get radio play though.

This may be a regional thing.

Here it's the same handful of songs in a loop...and all of it is decades old.

Now that I think about it, one of my stations did play those Metallica singles in 2016.... Hardwired and Atlas Rise.

Format may play a hand too. If it's a more classic rock station. They aren't gonna play the new shit. If it's just the regular old rock station with the combo of new and old releases. The new stuff from bigger bands will be played. Not sure about the west coast but the east plays new singles and I'd imagine the mid west would too. But absurd ain't gonna be that song 16

Agreed, they went with this song for a reason and that reason wasn’t so it could be a #1 smash hit. Who knows what the actual reason is. Monkey laid out a few good options. Maybe they just like the aggressiveness of the song when they performed it? For the first time in a long time it seems as though there’s a plan. I would expect Hard School will be unveiled later on this tour. It could just be a coincidence, but they unveiled Absurd in Boston & announced the single in NY, two major cities. In this day and age I’m not sure how much that matters when everything finds its way to the internet anyway, but maybe the plan is to debut Hard School in another large city. The LA show is in a few weeks, so that might be too soon? Chicago next month?

It’s a fair point. No way they were debuting the song in Hershey. No offense.

Playing it at Hershey may have been in the plan and then canned because of audio tech issues they had during the show. Maybe also just wanted to use that gig as a warmup and play it safe. Definitely seems like midnight on Thursday was always the release plan though.

It definitely was the plan. New releases are always Friday in the states. Or Thursday at midnight eastern. I dunno how last minute you can arrange shit like that but they had artwork and a "video" for YouTube so most likely was always the plan.

I could see Hardschool dropping earliest mid September and latest early November.

I think we're talking past each other. Yeah, they put this on the platforms. This wasn't released with any promotion or anything saying this is their first lead single of a new album, which is what I was saying. If they announce a new album today, then yeah, it'll be an odd choice. As far as I see it they're using it to make some noise about the tour.

Kinda my thinking too. I see this and hardschool as two digital singles for the tour.

It's under new releases on Amazon music.

He's probably on it.... somewhere....but that's definitely Duff at 1:56.

Can't wait to see the credits on this album....

Guitars: Robin Finck, Paul Huge, Buckethead, Richard Fortus,, Slash
Bass: Tommy Stinson, Duff
Sub bass: Pitman
Synth: Pitman, Melissa
Piano: Dizzy, Axl
Drums: Freese, Brain, Ferrer

It's like if the Doobie Brothers did an album and Steely Dan came in and finished it.

If there is an album it will probably all.be credited to "Guns N' Roses."

If this is what the public first hears from Axl Slash and Duff, it seems doomed.

Scroll around to any story, YouTube vid, forum, etc., and the majority are calling this crap. Can't really blame them. They expect the classic GNR sound.

It's nice to have new music, of course. That's all I've ever wanted. It's certainly not my favorite. Hopefully it gets better from here.

I'm afraid this'll get abused when rock reviewers start filing their stories.

Yea, I'm trying not to shit on everyone's parade but this song doesn't do anything for me other than get my hopes up more, better songs are coming.  Happy they released something, but Silkworms/Absurd isn't a track to build support for a new Guns album on.

I didn't want to be the turd in the punchbowl, but I'm not gonna be a nutswinger either. I've been clear over the years that rehashed tours were not what excites me. New music is. So, now that I've got it, I still complain? (Besides the fact this isn't new.) Well, when this is the "new," yeah, I'm a little underwhelmed.

It's not me that matters, though. Take a look at the talk around this. It's not good. We know Axl could definitely be impacted by a tidal wave of bad reviews.

Should have led with Hard School.

I'm 100 percent on the should have led with hardschool train.

Wonder if radio will touch this one. I now believe at least 2 singles will drop. Absurd and Hardschool. I am not convinced there is an album but im a little more positive that there might be something.
