I just don't like Adam Lambert's stage presence. We all knew Freddie was gay, but I dunno, he never came across as overtly gay on stage and performing, like Adam Lambert is.

I ain't a homophobe either, I just think his style just doesn't do it for me.
Wasn't blown away by his vocals either in those clips.

I hear that. I went to look up some more footage and so far I'm most impressed by this:

Vocals are impressive and he seems to be channeling Freddie

That's a pretty damn impressive performance. I like that he's doing his own thing though, despite the fact that he has the vocal range to pull off Freddie's songs. It's one of the reasons I really want them to do an album; they have a singer who's as strong as Freddie, who has a similar stage presence to him, but who's very much his own person. I want to hear what that guy can do with Queen backing him, not parroting old songs from the back catalogue.

But the band really do seem to be energised by him, and they seem to get on very well.

Particularly liked that the setlist seemed to be harking back to 70s Queen, with a smattering of late-80s songs that Freddie wasn't able to perform live. So we got (a recording of) Flash as the intro music, followed by Seven Seas of Rhye, Keep Yourself Alive, We Will Rock You (fast). Dragon Attack turned up later (bit of a deep cut), plus a blistering The Show Must Go On.

Given Brian's comments here:

I don't think there's any doubt that there's going to be some sort of creative partnership going forward, be it more live dates or (what I'm really hoping for) an album.

Awesome. One of the single best gigs I've been to. Lambert owned the stage - he's got an incredible voice and stage presence, and unlike Paul Rodgers he can carry off this sort of outfit:

Brian was on form too - and nice to see him not relying on the crutch of a second guitarist.

Another One Bites The Dust was a particular highlight, for Lambert's call-and-response vocals with the audience - caught sight of Brian standing back with this big shit-eating grin on his face. "Thank Christ, we've found another one."

Likewise I Want It All - he's invented a Radio Ga Ga style audience-participation gesture for a song that Queen never performed live - and Who Wants To Live Forever, where he sings one line before the solo that had me and my mate looking at each other, going, "bloody hell, how did he do that?"

Plus Queen seem to get on really well with him, joking around on stage, and so forth. Look at this and tell me they're not going to do an album together:

The gig slowed a bit in the middle, as we got two Roger-led numbers, a Brian acoustic solo, a drum solo and then a big Brian guitar solo - they would've been better spaced throughout the set than all lumped together in the middle. But on the whole it was bloody amazing. Best gig I've been to this year, and I've seen Kanye and Jay-Z, GN'R and Slash, among others.

Well, tonight's the night. Queen + Adam Lambert in the Hammersmith Apollo. Going by the YouTube videos of their previous performances, it'll be fucking awesome. smile

In their defense, us fans have been begging for years for the opportunity to purchase band related stuff.

Although, I think we were all hoping more along the lines of new music, DVD's, etc. roll Well, you can't win'em all.

They did coordinate some cool pay per view events, I'll give them that.  Not sure what the hell happened with the last one though.  Never did get a real good explanation on that one.

Nobody bought it.  I don't think we need to wait for them to tell us that.

Oh I agree that's why it was nixed as a Pay Per View event, but they said they'd be releasing it at a later date in some form or fashion.  Well, it's later.

We're still waiting for the Better video, I wouldn't get your hopes up...

So bummed that Sonisphere was axed this year - would've been great to see The Darkness, Queen and Tim Minchin all in the same place. The eyeliner budget alone would've been through the roof.

They're opening for Lady Gaga at Twickenham. Seriously tempted, as it's literally 5 minutes down the road from me.

Agh when is he going to come to the UK? sad

Yup - it sounds bang on. Suddenly when I play the tunes, they sound like Slash. Well, until I fuck up the twiddly bits of the solos.
