#1541 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl On Kimmel Oct 24th, Live Interview! » 731 weeks ago
I don't know if it was his first appearance on the show, but Slash was one of Kimmel's first guests. In fact, early on he had one guest sit in all week and I want to say Slash was the first to do so. It was either he, or Mike Tyson. I forget the order. I remember watching Slash perform "Paradise City" with Cypress Hill and it was awful. Sorry for those of you who might've enjoyed it. I did not.
This one?

Sad to see that Velvet Revolver's firmly in the past now – I really think they could've pulled it back together with a new vocalist. VR + Corey Taylor will go down as one of those great "might-have-been" bands. I'd cheerfully gnaw off my own arm to hear the demos from those sessions...

I suspect that literally every person who's tried to manage GN'R before has been approaching the job with a view to engineering a reunion at some point. Beta and Team Brazil are the only ones who are actually interested in the current band as a going concern.
Yeah, the marketing is a bit... deceptive, using the old band's reputation to sell the new band – but we're finally getting the live DVDs, the promo, the interviews that we should've had back in '06. And tbh, until we get new music, the new band doesn't have anything to trade on BUT the GN'R name. So with any luck we'll get some new music soon, too.

Things have been going at the speed of light lately in comparison to what we're normally accustomed to. At this point, nothing would shock me. And for once, I mean that in a good way.
Not to sound overly optimistic, but it's all good from where I'm sitting.
I find it hugely amusing that after all the castigation of Beta and Team Brazil as "Colonel Tom Parker" types leeching off Axl on the web forums, they've turned out to be the ones who are Getting Things Done.

I thought Axl sounded a lot like Myles in the clips - hitting the notes for the most part, but not having "Axl power" on the notes and even sounding nasaly at times. Axl isn't going to sound like 25 year old Axl...not the way he sings and not the way he takes huge chunks of time off from doing anything. I know he takes a lot of blame for things, and rightfully so in many cases, but nobody that sings the way Axl does is going to sound great in his fifties in my opinion. The things that we love about his voice are the same things that shorten his peak years. Maybe if he took better care of himself it could be slightly better than it is now, but I still think he'd be nowhere near what he was and it would still be noticeable.
Robert Plants voice was shot by 1972....he was still in his early 20's. It's a tough way to sing.
It's interesting to look at how he approached the Led Zep reunion gig – in places, he completely reworks the vocal lines. I wonder if Axl's considered doing the same, rather than trying to ape his twentysomething self and coming up short.

Wow – definitely getting the Blu-ray, since I was at the show. Well, the one where they played 14 Years; I assume this is cobbled together from the three nights they played the O2.
And I had to leave early 'cause they STARTED SO FUCKING LATE. I'll actually get to see Paradise City this time.
#1548 Re: Guns N' Roses » "Better" Video Discussion » 734 weeks ago
I agree that Robin pretty much dicked over GN'R. Just as they were about to release the album – with a video designed to showcase the new line-up – he ups and leaves, throwing all the promotional efforts into confusion.
In his defense, he'd probably heard the phrase "Oh, we're just about to release the album" once too often. And there are clearly no hard feelings, what with him turning up at that one show to belt out Better (why not This I Love? WHY?).

I reckon if Robin had stuck around, they would've released it. But replacing him with Ashba in the video would be absurd (particularly if previous band members like Buckethead were still in there) and adding him to the video while leaving Robin in would be equally absurd (there would be five guitarists in there).
Plus I doubt they had time to do a ground-up re-edit like that.

This UziSuicidal LLC who keeps getting videos taken down is not actually connected with the band in any way, right? I really wish someone would lawyer up and take the fucker down.
