This is a really tough vote for me as I like both these shows.  I don't like how Dexter progressed last year and the last two years of SVU have been subpar.  Some of the plots aren't really sex crime based anymore.  Still voting for the show with the daughter of Jayne Mansfield.

norway mcdonalds and USA mcdonalds are two different worlds. our local mcdonalds have always been the absolute top of the country in cleanlyness, food wise and anything else. i was shocked at the difference when i for example went to london to eat, or in oslo for that matter.

when i was in the states back in 2001, i felt like trying mcdonalds to see the difference in quality and products, but the people i was with just refused to go. i was a bit annoyed as it would have been interested in seeing.

Is that because the international Mcdonalds aren't restricted by the menu?  I've seen photos of croquettes being offered in an Amsterdam mcdonalds.  I'm sure there are other local delicacies offered.  In the US version, you know what the menu will be--Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese etc.  I think there is a definite higher standard of quality overseas as opposed to the US.  I'm also not surprised about the cleaniness of the Mcdonalds overseas either.  Fast food places in the US always have this strange unpleasant smell to me.

I watched an episode of each series and have to vote for Only Fools.  It was slightly better than Fawlty Towers.  The ending of the series premiere for Fawlty Tower was funnier though.

Jeez, I have a headache from trying to read that.  It seemed less like a dj ashba chat and more like a chat between insane gnr fans.  In true Nu Gnr fashion he avoided the few questions that had substance to them.

Another Korean film seen today:  The Game (2008).  It's a great film that stars Ryu from Mr. Vengeance.  It's got some sci fi/ horror stuff but mostly its a psychological thriller.  Solid dramatic acting from both the lead and the antagonist.

James, have you seen this film?  I'm just curious since you seem to watch a lot of Asian films and our tastes appear to be similiar.

Oldboy remake, from what I hear, isn't going to be based on the movie but the original comic that didn't have the killer twist the Park's film had. Park inveneted a lot fo that for his film.

Yep you're correct on this.  I also read somewhere that Park refused to sell the rights to the film for remake.  So good for him.  The rumor is that Spielberg and Will Smith are involved in the remake.  Since I don't really care for Will Smith, I will safely avoid this.  I suspect that this is going to be turned into a generic thriller.

Go watch Tale of Two Sisters, and then watch its remake The Uninvited.

I haven't seen this yet, but its high on the list.  I will watch Battle Royale and Lady Vengeance next.

To Mister ID's point, I think foreign countries are less obsessed with the bottom line (profit) when making films so there is a bit more autonomy there.  In America, you see the same hack writers and directors directing films when it is clear that they don't have much talent.  In Asia, I think the horror/atmospheric drama/thriller is more ingrained in the culture and treated with respect and not held down by conventions or assumptions.  I think that foreign films tend to be better character written stuff where modern American cinema is more action oriented--especially with the rise of CGI graphics where it seems directors are basing their stories on stunts and graphics and not characters.

On a last unrelated point, I really hope that Da-vinci code like films don't turn into the next big thing in Hollywood.  Those films are glorified easter egg hunts with zero substance and all adrenaline.

Axl keeps hemoraging bandmates - both from his old GNR and his new versions.

The public perception is that Axl is impossible to work with and slash not.

And that's why the general public takes Slash's side. Because if u only have the shallow facts to go on like that. It looks suspect.

In real life I think maybe everyone of us has no idea, and that both Axl and Slash are complex guys and probably both at fault. But you can see why people get the wrong idea about Axl. His PR is terrible. He really needs someone to fix his image in the media.

Agreed.  But the fact that guys keep on leaving the band regardless of whether or not its Slash, Buckethead, Finck, Duff does reflect badly on Axl and adds to his negative image.  Axl could just fix this by just releasing music in a timely fashion and showing up on time at the shows but he refuses to do this.  It makes me think he doesn't care on some level about PR and would rather do things his way than conform.  If he wants to improve his image he should just follow George Costanza and just do the opposite of what he usually does.

I think both guys are to blame in the original GNR split, but the CD fiasco has to be put at his feet.  As buzzsaw mentioned, Slash had nothing to do with the missed shows or the long delay in the release of the album.

I was wondering whether or not you were going to post about this.  The trailer looks great and Park from Sympathy for Mr. Vengance plays the lead character.

Why is it that Asian cinema seems to write and release better psychological drama/thriller/horror films than Americans?

I'm kinda hoping he does a collaboration with Dave Mustaine that would be killer.  Regardless, the rest of this album sounds great and I'll probably buy this whenever it comes out.
