Such a shame that because of timings, they had to cut one song (SCOM?) from the set. As it is, it's one of the great GN'R performances; SCOM would've elevated it to another level.

^ Slash waited 2+ years for Axl to make his UYI changes. Then when it seemed it was going to be even longer next album he got sick of it. The 15 year wait for CD followed by 5 years of nothing now suggests he might have a point.
So recapping....
By The Sword is only a good song because of Stockdale
GNR songs are only good because of Izzy
Anastasia wouldn't be good even if it had someone else other than myles....
The industry now recognises Slash as one of the ALL TIME greatest guitarists....but around here it's like people work hard to minimise and devalue what he does.
THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M SAYING. People keep talking about "an Axl version of By The Sword" like it's a simple case of cutting Stockdale out and pasting Axl lyrics over the existing guitar parts, as would've been the case with the old Snakepit riffs. But BTS was co-written with Stockdale and the chord structure/riff altered in the process – an Axl version would be based on the original track that Slash sent over to Stockdale. It would be an entirely different song. And we don't know what that early version of the By The Sword backing track sounded like.

People keep saying that "By The Sword with Axl would be GN'R worthy," which rather overlooks the fact that Andrew Stockdale made changes to the riff and chorus. "By The Sword with Axl" would be a completely different song.

Personally, I feel that Axl's great gift is for songwriting and melody – the lyrics on CD are so far ahead of anything Myles or Slash's solo album collaborators have put out, it's not even funny (with the possible exception of By The Sword). It's why I'm excited about Walking Papers – their lead singer can actually put words to paper in an interesting manner.

The only way we'll ever get to hear Axl and Slash together again is if Axl keels over stony-cold dead before Slash does, and some record company exec hands over Axl's vault to Slash. Which they undoubtedly would, in a heartbeat.

Watching these videos, I'm thinking exactly the same thing.
The dude sounds like a grittier Scott Weiland with more soul and range in his singing.
VR could've made some great modern rock with this guy up front.Duff brought him down back in 2003 to try out:
"I hoped at some point I would do something with Jeff; we're good bros and we share a similar path in certain aspects,” he tells Rolling Stone . “Early on, when we were looking for singers for Velvet Revolver, I brought Jeff Angell down, about 2003. I've had a relationship with him and wanted to work with him for that long."

Why didn't they bring him back when Weiland left? WHY? Goddamnit, when I think of the opportunities VR has passed up…

So, there's this new site called Songkick Detour; you pledge to buy tickets for a musician's show and – once enough people agree to cough up – they'll arrange to bring the artist to your area for a gig.
Seems to me like this is the perfect way to get
to finally, finally play the UK – for the first time since 2002's GN'R shows. I've pledged, any other UK-based Buckethead fans want to pitch in?

The VMAs 2002 were a giant clusterfuck, but it was all on Axl – there was a genuine curiosity among the wider public about the other band members, and particularly about Buckethead. I mean, this was 2002; musicians in freaky masks were common currency at the time. But Axl ruined it all by turning up fat, out of shape and out of breath – and instantly made himself into a running joke.
I maintain that if he'd done the exact same performance but with his 2006 look and voice, it would've gone down as a spectacular VMAs moment. And if he'd gone out there with his 2006 look and voice and belted out TWAT, Chinese Democracy would've been an instant hit.

"…the time Axl picked up Slash's beloved albino boa constrictor and it shat all over Axl. And Axl had on some expensive clothes. He got so mad he wanted to hurt the snake. He was cussing at it. But Slash picked up his guitar—here Gregory imitated a tree-chopping backswing pose—and said, "Don't. Hurt. My. Snake." Axl backed off."
This might be the quintessential GN'R moment. Distilled essence of Guns N' Roses.
