Nah, that's absolutely and completely a Tommy Stinson track. It sounds exactly like the songs on Village Gorilla Head and One Man Mutiny. Makes you wonder if any of those were earmarked for GN'R before he finally got sick of waiting. In fact, given that about half the tracks on Tommy's solo albums feature GN'R members (Fortus, Dizzy, Josh Freese), it's kind of funny that the only thing that really marks this out as a GN'R track are the backing vocals from Axl.

You know what I like most about Goin' Down? It sounds like the work of a band. Tommy writing his own lyrics, Axl providing backing vocals, other members contributing organically to the song.

Just write a whole fucking album like this, Axl, instead of cutting and pasting riffs and lyrics together. Get in a room and jam something out.

To each their own. I can't stand the guy; his musical sensibilities, his playing, his posturing, his image. I'm sure he's a nice person – his work with anti-bullying charities is evidence enough of that – but I want him kept as far away from GN'R as possible.

Goin' Down is cool (very reminiscent of Tommy's solo stuff, unsurprisingly. Which is a good thing) and could give the band some much needed rock n' roll cred – but it needs more power from Axl in the choruses. He needs to belt 'em out like 14 Years. And the solo is a bit pasted-on, but it's not that tonally off. I always worry that Bumble's going to add unnecessary flourishes and twiddles, but he seems to have reined himself in here.
